Chapter 470: Chapter 470 Jessica’s drama

By the time they finally reached the city, the sky had already drowned itself in deep blue, and the streets outside the car glowed softly under the streetlamps. Leo stepped out first, stretching his sore shoulders, then opened the door for Bella. She didn’t move. She was curled up in her seat like a tiny sleeping kitten, her cheek pressed to the seat, her hair falling over her eyes.

Leo’s entire aura melted.

He leaned in, sliding one arm under her knees and the other around her back, lifting her gently. Bella barely stirred; her fingers curled lightly against his shirt as if seeking warmth even in her dreams. The house was dark and quiet when he stepped inside, their footsteps softer than whispers on the expensive flooring.

"My sleepy bunny," he murmured with a smile, brushing his lips against the bridge of her nose. She made a soft sound, something between a sigh and a murmur, but she didn’t wake. Leo carried her straight to their room, nudging the door open with his shoulder. The lights were dim, the bed freshly made, the pillows already fluffed by the staff. Everything looked warm and inviting, but nothing compared to how Bella looked, small and huggable, her lashes resting gently on her cheeks.

He laid her on the bed slowly, as if afraid she might break, and tucked the comforter around her tiny frame, smoothing her hair with tender fingers. The sight made something warm unfurl in his chest. She always looked adorable when she slept, but tonight she looked even more delicate, as if the trip had drained her until sleep was the only thing holding her up.

Leo watched her for another moment before forcing himself to pull away. He walked toward the study, rolling up his sleeves and switching on his laptop. Work waited for no one, not even him. He spent an hour reviewing documents and sending instructions to his team, but every few minutes his eyes flicked toward the doorway as if he could hear her breathing from there.

Finally, when he was done, he returned to the bedroom. The room felt warmer instantly. Bella had rolled to his side, hugging his pillow tightly, her cheek buried in it.

He chuckled softly. "Cute even in sleep," he whispered, slipping into bed beside her.

The moment his weight sank into the mattress, she reacted like she always did. Instinctively, unconsciously, she rolled straight into him, her arms wrapping around his torso, her face pressing into his chest as if she knew exactly where she belonged even in half-sleep. Leo’s arms came around her without thought, pulling her closer until she was tucked securely under his chin.

He pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, letting the scent of her shampoo and the warmth of her breath ease the last bit of tension from his body.

"Sleep, bunny," he whispered into her hair.

With her soft warmth curled in his arms, Leo finally closed his eyes and let himself fall into the kind of sleep only she could give him, deep and peaceful.

The next morning drifted in quietly, sunlight settling over the dining room in a gentle golden wash. Bella sat between Jay and Jace, enjoying a peaceful breakfast with Lina and Alessandro while Leo moved in and out of the room like a restless shadow, his phone buzzing every few minutes. Nonna was still asleep upstairs.

Bella lifted a spoon of warm oatmeal, humming under her breath, when Leo’s phone buzzed again. He glanced at the screen, and she caught the shift in his expression, the way his jaw locked, the way his eyes hardened, the way his entire face tightened as if he had bitten into something bitter. Alessandro noticed at the same moment.

"What happened?" Alessandro asked, lowering his coffee cup.

Leo didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he exhaled slowly through his nose, a quiet storm forming in his eyes. He lifted his gaze toward Bella, and when their eyes met she felt a tiny twist of worry in her stomach.

"Jessica and Sam are here," Leo said, voice flat and cold enough to freeze the air between them.

Bella blinked, startled. She hadn’t expected to hear their names ever again, not after everything they had done. A small part of her, buried deep inside, wished her mother had been someone gentle, someone she could trust. But that fragile hope faded the moment she remembered the cruel glint in Jessica’s eyes the night she kidnapped her.

"And they brought reporters," Leo added, the muscle in his jaw twitching. "They’re making a scene outside the gates."

Jace nearly choked on his food. "Reporters... they brought reporters... what are they trying to do?"

Jay’s brows shot up. "They’re actually insane."

Lina’s hand tightened around her mug, her expression shifting from shock to something simmering and fierce. "Dragging reporters to our home? They must have lost their minds."

Alessandro leaned back in his chair, eyes narrowing. "What do you plan to do?"

Leo slipped his phone into his pocket and straightened. "I’m letting them inside."

Bella’s heart skipped. "Inside...?"

He nodded once, his eyes fixed on her with a mix of determination and protectiveness. "I need to make them understand something clearly. They won’t stop until someone forces sense into their skulls. And I won’t let them twist your story in front of the media."

Bella’s fingers tightened around her spoon and something unreadable flickered in her eyes.

Leo stepped closer, resting his hand lightly on the back of her chair. "You don’t have to face them alone," he said softly.

Meanwhile, outside the gates, Jessica was already performing her masterpiece of drama, standing in front of cameras with trembling shoulders and perfectly timed tears.

"I just want to see my daughter," she sobbed, clutching a tissue dramatically. "Ever since she married into that rich family, they won’t let a mother even talk to her... I don’t know what they’ve done to my Bella..."

Sam stood beside her, stiff and emotionless, but he played the part well. His silence made him appear like a grieving stepfather, his tough demeanor earning sympathy from the reporters who saw a concerned family.

Cameras clicked. Microphones stretched forward. Jessica dabbed her eyes delicately and cried harder.
