Chapter 145: Bond (3)

I sat up and stared at my mate while still seeing the image in my mind of walking so confidently into the palace. "Why didn’t you tell me sooner?! They know I’m..."

Eryx sat up and pulled me to him again, stroking my back comfortingly. "In Sun and Fury, we do not fear the Chosen. It’s highly respected. I know we are not in my kingdom, but the Fae, the Blood Wraiths, they are starting to change this land—maybe in how your people see everything.

The world is much bigger than initially believed." He cups my cheek then and smiles at me. "Nobody will touch you, and you walked in so confidently they didn’t question it."

My initial panic started to fade instantly. Eryx calmed me, and I knew he was right. Our people have always been mixed between looking up at the Chosen as the Gods or fearing them. They have extra abilities, and now that we know Weres are technically Beast Fae, it made sense that some, perhaps even more so for those with Alpha and royal bloodlines, have these powers.

"Alaric doesn’t have a mark, though..." I murmur. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

"We do," Eryx says quietly. "Yours happens to be on your forehead."

I look up at him. He was also a Chosen. "Where’s yours?" I ask, wondering what abilities he has. I wasn’t sure if that healing ability of mine was because I am Chosen or part High Fae.

My wolf growled in response. I could feel her huffing and acting annoyed. She... had been pretty tired when I used my powers on Soren. Were my healing abilities from my wolf then? She seems to roll her eyes at me and bark in an annoyed response. That was a yes.

Sorry girl, I think to her, and she huffs again.

Maybe I didn’t have fae powers. I was only part fae after all, that’s if what Cazimir said was true. But I do not doubt his words.

"Back of my right knee," Eryx states. So it was easy to hide. I wasn’t sure where Alaric’s might be then. Mine was annoyingly on show for everyone to see.

I nod, my fingers drawing patterns on his chest again as I fall silent, thinking about how the people would react to me. Seeing another Chosen wolf, their Princess should be the least of their worries. The Alpha King hasn’t announced anything yet about these attacks besides sending a declaration that the attacks were being investigated, but it will not keep the people from wondering and worrying.

"Have you shown any signs of abilities?" Eryx asks as he inhales deeply, scenting my hair as his hand glides up and down my back.

I nod. "Yes I... I can heal... others..." I look up when his hand stills. He meets my gaze, and I feel a bit of fear throbbing through the bond. It wasn’t fear of me but for me.

"You were careful..." He looked between my eyes, trailing off as he didn’t sense my panic. He knew I was smart. "That’s amazing, Lia... Who did you..."

Before I can stop myself, the memory surfaces of healing Soren. His eyes widen slightly; he’s in awe, and I feel a little bit of jealousy ping through the bond. "I couldn’t let him die," I murmur quietly.

Eryx brings his hand into my hair and strokes it away from my face. "I know." He kisses my head. "You and Soren..." He begins slowly. "He was your lover..."

I blush, realising we were having ’that’ conversation. If not for my heat, I wouldn’t have had anything to say. I don’t deny it, though. Even if he could sense it through the bond. "Yes... It sort of happened.." I say nervously.

Eryx continues to stroke my hair, almost comforting me, telling me silently it is okay. "I saw how he acted towards you. His affections were becoming obvious to anyone paying attention... Do you still..."

"No. No, not for a while. His betrayal hurt me. I saved him because of our friendship over the years before anything else. Any lingering feelings I might have had vanished when I saw you again," I answer, my fingers going into his hair again as I stare back at those forest green eyes, the shades of differing-coloured green leaves.

Eryx nodded and kissed my head. "You’re not mad?" I ask, even though I don’t feel guilty for it. It was a complex situation, and I don’t think my heat was entirely normal either. I could smell Soren, Theo and Eryx’s scents. It was extremely rare to have more than one mate and nearly impossible to have three.

"No, I’m not mad. I might be possessive and feel jealous that you were with another but I’m not mad. We’re mated now; that’s all that matters to me," He says, squeezing me tighter into him.

"Ooft, okay..." I tap his chest a little. "Too... tight..."

"Oh..." Eryx chuckled and loosened his grip, but his arms remained securely around me, his warmth enveloping me against the cool air drifting into the room. I let out a breath and relaxed further into him.

Neither of us made a move to get up just yet. I was comfortable, feeling the steady rise and fall of his chest beneath my fingertips, his scent filling my senses like an anchor. I didn’t want to leave this moment—just the two of us, unburdened by the responsibilities that awaited beyond this room.

His fingers resumed tracing light circles on my back. "We should get up soon," he murmured, though he made no move to do so. He was the most against this anyway.

I sighed dramatically. "We should."

Still, neither of us moved.

Eryx smirked, sensing my reluctance through the bond. "How about five more minutes?"

I nodded, resting my cheek against his chest again. "Deal."

"Tell me about Sun and Fury..." I then murmur.

His hand smoothed over my hair, his voice soft. "You want to know about the South..."

I perked up, my interest piqued. "What’s it like?"

His eyes took on a distant look, as though he were seeing something far away. "It’s... different from here. The lands stretch on for miles, with golden fields and thick forests, but the heat is dry, not the damp cold you know here. There are deserts and golden beaches by the seas. The skies feel bigger, the sun always bearing down on you." His lips quirked. "We don’t have the endless winters you do. Snow is rare, and when it falls, it’s considered a miracle."

I stare off with him, letting my imagination run wild. Eryx didn’t show me his memories; he wanted me to see them properly the first time I officially cross over to Sun and Fury.
