Chapter 140: Yours (1)

The world around us seemed to fade, dissolving into the edges of my awareness as I locked eyes with Eryx. It was as though I was seeing him for the first time, yet he was achingly familiar. My wolf stirred, a low growl of contentment reverberating in my mind. His piercing gaze took in every detail of me, and I mirrored him, committing every line, every shift of expression to memory.

The others stood in silence at first, the weight of our realisation sinking into the group.

"Mates.." Faidon looked between us, the first to break the quiet.

Kharis grinned wolfishly. Cohnal smiled and his shoulders seemed to relax. Soren dipped his head slightly, his brow furrowed in thought.

"I thought I could smell her scent... Thought she might be mine..." he muttered, almost to himself. Then, louder, he added, "Before her wolf arrived."

Cohnal’s frown deepened as he turned toward Soren. "Dark magick?" he asked, suspicion lacing his voice.

I heard their words, the weight of their speculation not lost on me, but my focus remained entirely on Eryx. His breathing had grown heavier, matching my own. My chest rose and fell as I fought to steady myself, but his presence was overwhelming, magnetic. Every instinct screamed to close the last of the distance, to feel him, to make sure he was real.

Eryx stepped forward until there was no space left between us. A zap rushed through my body as my chest grazed the bottom part of his. He scooped me up in his arms, lifting me effortlessly. I reacted without thought, my legs encircling his waist, my arms wrapping around his neck. He hoisted me up higher so I was looking down at him. Our faces were so close that his breath fanned against my lips, and I felt the heat of his skin through every fibre of my being.

"Are you hurt?" I asked, my voice trembling, the question a soft whisper.

Eryx’s growl was low and primal, vibrating through me. "No," he said, his voice a rough rasp. His hold tightened on my thighs as if he feared letting me go would make me vanish.

A soft snort came from Kharis, breaking the intensity of the moment just slightly. "I think we should leave them to it," he drawled, amusement clear in his tone. He leaned back, folding his arms behind his head as he turned to walk away. "This is going to get... wild. Faidon, you owe me fifty."

Faidon, still breathing heavily from the attack, standing a few paces away, grumbled something inaudible under his breath before vanishing into the shadows entirely.

"We can’t leave them," Soren protested, his voice sharp. "What if there’s another attack?"

Cohnal clapped a hand on Soren’s shoulder, his grin wry. "He’s the next Alpha King of Sun and Fury. They’ll be fine. Unless you really want to stick around and keep watch?" 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Soren’s lips pressed into a thin line, his discomfort evident. He hesitated, then exhaled sharply, muttering something under his breath before following the others.

Eryx’s arms never faltered, his grip as steady as his gaze. He moved us with ease, pressing me against the rough bark of a nearby tree. My back arched slightly at the sensation, but it wasn’t the tree that had my attention. It was him. His ethereal forest-green eyes glowed brightly, flashing with an intensity that sent a shiver racing down my spine.

"A bit of deja vu," he murmured, his voice a deep rumble. His chest vibrated against mine. "My mate," he said, the words reverent and possessive all at once.

’My mate.’

My heart thundered in my chest. The way he said it, the way I could feel every inch of his body like a pulse, a thrum, tingling intensity, left no room for doubt or hesitation. Unlike my heat, this was something else entirely.

The bond between us was undeniable, a pull as strong as gravity. I couldn’t help but smile, the expression softening the intensity of my emotions. "Yours," I whispered in return, the single word carrying the weight of my acceptance.

His face dipped closer, his nose brushing against mine as he inhaled deeply. "You smell like the sun, heated wildflowers and sweet raspberries," he said, his voice rough with longing. "It’s maddening."

I couldn’t help but tease, even as my heart raced. "And you smell like trouble," I replied, a soft laugh escaping me. It felt right to be in his arms, even after how we’d begun.

His answering growl was playful, but his grip tightened again, his eyes narrowing slightly. "You’ll learn to love it," he said, his tone filled with promise.

I didn’t doubt him.

For a moment, the world seemed to pause, the woods quiet save for the rustle of leaves in the night breeze. It was as though the forest itself was holding its breath, watching the two of us, waiting.

But reality had a way of creeping back in. I rested my forehead against his, my breath mingling with his as I spoke softly. "The attacks..."

Eryx’s jaw tightened, and the glow in his eyes darkened slightly as his expression grew serious. "I know," he admitted, his voice a low rumble. "But right now, it’s just us. Let me have this moment, Lia. Just this."

His words hit me harder than I expected, the vulnerability in his voice catching me off guard. I nodded, my fingers tangling in his hair as I held him close. "Just this moment," I agreed, my voice barely above a whisper.

We stayed like that, wrapped in each other. All that mattered was him, our hearts beat as one, as our scents mixed, static energy brimmed between us and our like a bolt of lightning flashed through us, our lips collided.

A moan slipped past my lips as he pinned me harder against the tree, my hands tightening in his hair as he claimed my mouth and our tongues fought for each other. "My mate," I whimpered against his lips as his teeth nipped into my bottom lip.

My words made his chest rumble. "Say it again," he commanded.

With our gazes locked, pupils dilated, breaths heating our faces, I whispered, "My mate." The thrill of the words going through me.
