High School of Demon Hunting-Chapter 2379 - 600: The Wife Leads, the Husband Follows
The faint fragrance accompanied the witch’s figure, flowing into the living room together.
A hint of amazement flashed in everyone’s eyes, except Mr. Andrew, who besides being amazed, turned pale, evidently remembering the criticism of the Big Wizard he had made earlier.
Unlike everyone else, Zheng Qing was wondering what trick this young lady was playing. He clearly remembered that Su Shijun had returned to the mansion this morning, eliminating any possibility of her just waking up.
Was she trying to hide the fact that she hadn’t been at the mansion for the past few days in front of the Trident Sword?
Or perhaps her disappearance in the past few days involved more discreet school and Moon Council activities that needed to evade the Alliance’s surveillance to some degree?
Zheng Qing withdrew his gaze, picked up the teacup, and his brain raced, trying to figure out various possibilities.
Just then, a gust of fragrant wind approached, and immediately his face was met with a warm yet cold, damp sensation, brutally interrupting his rapidly rotating mind.
A not-so-loud sound reached his ear.
Mua!
While everyone was stunned, Su Daxu leaned over to Zheng Qing’s cheek and gave him a fragrant kiss. Zheng Qing distinctly heard the sound of four gulps echoing in the room — including his own.
"Good morning, dear."
A gentle whisper reached his ear, but to Zheng Qing, it sounded more like the demon’s murmur: "Why didn’t you call me when you woke up... Are these your guests?"
The young scholarship student coughed violently, nearly choking on his saliva.
What waking up!
Why waking up!
Where did he go to wake her up?
Or rather, what did him waking up have to do with her!!!
These thoughts collided in his mind like a speeding train, making Zheng Qing feel like the world was shaking in absurdity. He trembled as he put down the teacup, his shaky hands making him suspect the cup would tumble onto the ground any second.
"Good morning, Su Councilor."
Mili Wizard was the first to recover, stood up, and bowed to greet the Alliance’s Big Wizard: "I didn’t know your time might be inconvenient now, coming here so hastily was rude of us..."
"Yes, yes, we thought you weren’t at the mansion..." Andrew followed closely, stammering his apologies but abruptly cut off his words, his face flushing with a mix of fear and embarrassment.
Su Shijun glanced at them with an ambiguous smile.
"...We visited abruptly today because there are trivial official matters to discuss briefly with Zheng Qing..." Mili Wizard slightly raised his voice, seemingly to make up for his companion’s mistake, but the more he did so, the more it showed their lack of confidence.
Su Shijun ignored them and leaned forward, propping her elbows on the back of the sofa where Zheng Qing sat, her long black hair falling loosely, brushing against Zheng Qing’s face and ear, making him feel a bit ticklish.
Zheng Qing dared not move a single muscle, as if he’d been hit by a Petrification Curse, the expression on his face was worse than crying. However, to outsiders, this seemed like a lovestruck fool.
The three guests bowed their heads for nearly a minute before the witch’s voice resumed in the quiet living room.
"Whatever it is, speak it,"
Her tone remained lazy as before, making it hard to discern her mood: "Dong Dong’s morning lessons are about to finish, and we need to go play parent-child games with her."
As heaven is my witness!
Zheng Qing never knew there was such a term as ’parent-child games’ on the curriculum; this is the first time he’s heard this term in almost two years on Buji Island!
The black-robed wizards across the coffee table naturally couldn’t hear the young scholarship student’s frantic inner complaints.
Mili Wizard carefully sat back on the couch, lowered his eyes, eyes looking at nose, nose watching heart, hesitating: "This matter..."
He seemed unsure whether to continue the previous topic in front of Su Shijun.
"Why, is there something within Trident Sword that I’m not allowed to know?"
The owner of Greenhill Mansion put away her laziness, her expression was indifferent, her tone carried a hint of sarcasm and unmistakable firmness: "Privately, I am Dong Dong’s mother, he is Dong Dong’s father, his matters are my matters; publicly, I am a member of the Magic Alliance Conference, supervising all subordinate institutions of the Alliance... or is it that Trident Sword has now declared independence from the Alliance? Or do you want me to submit a formal supervision application to Trident Sword?"
Upon hearing the final sentence, the three black-robed wizards exchanged glances, and they all had a helpless expression on their faces.
Only Zheng Qing echoed with the strange and awkward titles ’Dong Dong’s mom’ and ’Dong Dong’s dad’— especially with outsiders present— finally freeing him from the long ’Petrification Curse’, his cheeks felt a long-lost warmth.
He instinctively picked up the teacup from the table, took a small sip of tea, trying to cool off.
But to the guests, this was a very typical ’husband following wife’s lead’, with Zheng Qing clearly expressing his stance alongside Su Shijun— if she wasn’t allowed to participate in the conversation, then it’s time to serve tea and see the guests out.
Mili Wizard immediately changed the original plan.
However, perhaps to show he was not unconditionally compliant, he insisted on establishing a secret barrier.
Snap.
Su Shijun snapped her fingers, accommodating his small request.
A pale blue halo expanded around, enveloping the entire living room, the magic power from the Big Wizard noticeably stronger than the Trident Sword members, making even the garden outside, close at hand, appear somewhat blurred and distorted.
"Gan Ning has escaped."
As Mili Wizard said these four words, Zheng Qing was still immersed in the earlier fragrant kiss and the echo of ’Dong Dong’s father’, his mind was filled with a dreamy absurdity, regarding the black-robed wizard’s words, he had only a basic reflex.
Gan Ning?
Wasn’t he my magical zoology teacher? What does his escape have to do with me? Are all students who attended his classes under investigation?
But the next sentence from Mili Wizard dragged him completely back to reality.
"Gan Ning is a raven." The black-robed wizard’s words hit hard, like a bucket of cold water pouring down, washing away the daydream in Zheng Qing’s mind, leaving only absurdity.
Zheng Qing blinked, looked at the serious expression of the black-robed wizards across the coffee table, still chewing over these two short but information-rich sentences, trying to piece together their meaning and their relationship to him.
Mili Wizard, however, didn’t give him much time to react, briskly explaining the background of the matter:
"...In fact, on the evening of February 7, during Black Wizard Walter’s celebration banquet, the Big Wizards present immediately targeted Lecturer Gan Ning as the prime suspect... Even though he had used very advanced confusion spells and deceptive magic, his small actions were as noticeable as ink stains on a white robe to the school..."
