Chapter 135: Chapter 71: Was That Woman Very Pretty?

By the time all the commotion had settled, it was already noon on the sixth. Qian Guran’s condition was stable, and according to the doctors, he was out of life-threatening danger, but he remained in a coma.

This situation was unmanageable, staying out of town was very inconvenient, so Lawyer Yao contacted the hospital in Qi Yuan to transfer Qian Guran there and arranged for a special care ward.

During the long holiday, this matter was quite difficult to handle, and it took pulling some strings before the hospital transfer was finally successful.

Lawyer Yao was incredibly busy these past few days, but Old Qian just wouldn’t wake up! It wasn’t until the evening of the seventh that Lawyer Yao finally got a full night’s sleep, and the next morning, he remembered to notify Qian Guran’s workplace.

Qian Guran was the vice president of the Qi Yuan Branch, and upon hearing the news, the president and the other vice president rushed to the hospital to offer their condolences.

All department leaders who were in Qi Yuan visited the hospital, and those who were not, sent their deputies on their behalf.

Although no one organized it, everyone tacitly divided into groups—a few top leaders first, followed by each department—so the family wouldn’t be overwhelmed and confused about who was who.

There were only three people who didn’t follow this order. Gao Xue’e set out immediately after hearing the news and also informed He Kao. When Huang Xiaopang saw that President E had gone, he skipped work and headed to the hospital on his own.

On the way, He Kao contacted Lin Qingshuang. Lin Qingshuang said she already knew about the situation and was on her way to Qi Yuan, and mentioned that two Elders from the Ancestral Hall had already arrived in Qi Yuan and were investigating the matter.

He Kao saw President Fang of the branch company, Fang Qizhi, about to get into a car in the hospital’s inpatient parking lot. It seemed he had just visited Old Qian, with Director Zhao from the administrative office following behind.

He Kao didn’t intend to greet them and deliberately circled around a van to pretend he hadn’t seen them. Unexpectedly, President Fang had sharp eyes and turned around to call out, "He Kao, are you also here to see President Qian?"

He Kao had no choice but to stop and say, "President Fang, you remember me? Yes, I am here to see President Qian."

Fang Qizhi nodded, "Of course I remember you, the high-achiever recruited this year. I heard Gao Xue’e values you greatly... Caring for colleagues is important, go on!"

The reason He Kao didn’t want to greet President Fang was because he wasn’t familiar with him; their ranks in the corporation were separated by seven levels, and their positions differed by five tiers, having no direct interactions on a daily basis.

There are over five hundred formal employees in the branch company; he knew President Fang, but President Fang might not necessarily know him, likely wouldn’t even remember his name, right?

Unexpectedly, President Fang not only knew his name but recognized him in a glance and specifically stopped him, which somewhat surprised He Kao.

He Kao didn’t sense any obvious malice from President Fang, but neither did he detect any goodwill, so it felt strange, and the words seemed a bit odd too.

However, He Kao was preoccupied with Old Qian’s condition and didn’t have the mind to ponder over Fang Qizhi...

Qian Guran looked very peaceful, breathing steadily, with a strong heartbeat, and even his pulse was normal and healthy. His face was no longer swollen and pale, having regained its usual rosiness, looking as if he were just asleep—sleeping quite deeply.

In the hospital room, He Kao finally met Yao Shaolan, who was Old Qian’s lawyer friend. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

He Kao had long heard of the name because when he went to retrieve items from the storage box, some procedural documents were handled by Lawyer Yao.

But He Kao himself never met Lawyer Yao; Qian Guran took care of it all for him without charging a fee.

Even without seeing He Kao, Lawyer Yao processed all the relevant paperwork, indicating her relationship with Qian Guran was definitely not ordinary, to the extent of simply informing each other when needed.

Upon meeting her today, it was indeed quite out of the ordinary!

With Old Qian in a coma, the one accompanying him should likely have been his closest family, yet here it was, just Lawyer Yao, and she seemed perfectly natural about it.

Lawyer Yao appeared to be in her early thirties, with a neat and elegant demeanor, possessing the glamorous lawyer persona depicted in film dramas. Or rather, she was perhaps the very image those dramas sought to portray.

As He Kao entered the hospital room, Lawyer Yao was chatting with Gao Xue’e. Meanwhile, Huang Xiaopang sat by the bed, looking worriedly at Qian Guran, occasionally reaching out to secretly poke him a couple of times.

Yao Shaolan was the first to greet He Kao, "You must be He Kao, right? I often hear Old Qian mention you, as well as President E and Huang Si, and I heard that you all take good care of him at work, and have a pretty good relationship normally."

Initially, He Kao thought that after the last few days, Lawyer Yao would be in an exhausted state, but she appeared much better than he expected, showing no signs of fatigue.

What concerned He Kao more was Qian Guran’s condition, but with his current keen perception, he didn’t find anything unusual about Qian Guran, who seemed to be "sleeping" well, and didn’t appear to be injured in any way.

According to Lawyer Yao, the attending doctor also found it strange. Old Qian’s body was fine, his brainwaves were not like those of a vegetative state, rather as if he was in a deep sleep, yet for some reason, he just couldn’t be woken up.

This might be a stress-induced protective coma, the doctor could only say such; even this statement was quite vague as they’d rarely seen such a patient.

Doctors also speculated that once he woke up, everything would be fine... which was a statement that amounted to saying nothing.

The group stayed in the ward, merely chatting with Lawyer Yao, as though nothing could really be done, and they continued to wait on and send off several department colleagues in succession.
