As the progress bar elapsed, the truth was unveiled bit by bit.

The car accident was fake, the so-called lifesaver was nothing but a scam.

Qiaoqiao had been abandoned by Qin Huan.

Qin Huan had close connections with Gu Ming, and he might have been involved in the kidnapping case as well.

Watching the revelation, Su Mian’s body swayed unsteadily, she clutched at her clothes over her chest, struggling to breathe, as tears uncontrollably streamed down her face.

“Qiaoqiao was so young at that time, she was only three years old, abandoned by her own family member, how scared she must have been, how utterly terrified!”

...

Although Su Mian had harbored suspicions about Qin Huan in the past, they had merely been suspicions. When faced with the undeniable truth, the searing pain of betrayal incessantly drowned her.

The fingers Lu Rui placed on Su Mian’s shoulder couldn’t stop trembling.

How ludicrous it was, their assumed familial harmony was nothing but an illusion.

“I’m not a good mother, it was my fault that I didn’t look after her well, I didn’t even help her seek revenge!”

Su Mian collapsed into Lu Rui’s arms, crying silently, feeling too ashamed to face Qiaoqiao.

Lu Jingzhi felt as if he had been punched in the gut, his heart tearing violently with each breath, as if needles were piercing right through him.

His whole being was in disarray.

Why had it come to this? How could things have turned out this way?

The father he had adored, his beloved foster sister, was the mastermind behind everything, the lifesaver he was so deeply grateful for was the culprit who had sought to harm him!

He had even misunderstood Qiaoqiao again and again because of Lu Ting’s words.

He trusted the daughter of a murderer and harbored doubts about his own sister.

Lu Jingzhi’s lips curved into a bitter, tearful smile.

Even though Lu Zhanxing had already seen the video before, watching it again was still heart-wrenchingly painful.

How disappointed his sister must be in them…

He laughed at himself bitterly, “Do you know? Lu Ting might have known all of this for a long time, yet she kept you in the dark! She met with her biological mother a long time ago!”

Lu Zhanxing’s words fell just short of blatantly telling them that, after all the years of nurturing, they had only raised an ingrate.

Su Mian shuddered, her expression a mixture of shock and disappointment.

Lu Ting had not been involved in her father’s doings, she was innocent in that regard, yet despite knowing the truth, she kept it from the family who loved and doted on her.

In that moment, she was no longer blameless.

The blow to Lu Jingzhi was the greatest; he clenched his fists so hard that his fingertips turned white and his nails dug into his palms drawing blood without his realizing it.

His voice hoarse, he said, “The one who gave you these pieces of evidence, have you verified it thoroughly…?”

He couldn’t believe, or rather he didn’t want to accept or to confront, that his years of devotion had come to nothing.

Lu Zhanxing’s jaws clenched tightly, his hands grasping Lu Jingzhi’s collar, his eyes filled with raging fury as he spelled it out for them.

“The person who told me all of this is our sister! She investigated everything herself! She didn’t tell you directly but told me first because she knew you might not believe it!”

This statement sent the three of them reeling once more.

Su Mian felt on the verge of fainting from crying.

“Qiaoqiao, she… she…” Lu Rui’s voice was rough, the words lodging in his throat, rendering him speechless.

Lu Jingzhi turned pale.

Lu Zhanxing growled at him, “Lu Jingzhi! Is that all the trust you have for your sister? I regret now that I didn’t come home right away when she returned. I trusted you too much! I thought you could take good care of her, but what in fact happened? You would rather trust Lu Ting than your own blood sister!”

Lu Jingzhi’s face was twisted with pain as he attempted to defend himself, “I… I didn’t.”

Lu Zhanxing let out a scornful laugh, releasing Lu Jingzhi, as cold desolation spread through his heart.

“We simply… don’t deserve to be her family!”

For fifteen years, they had raised the murderer’s daughter, letting her enjoy the love and affection that should have belonged to Qiaoqiao; what right did they have to be Qiaoqiao’s family now.

“We are the ones who wronged Qiaoqiao.”

Su Mian covered her face and wept, “We were blind, we were foolish, we were too naive!”

“Qiaoqiao must have been so disappointed when she came to know all this! Even though I suspected there was something wrong with her disappearance, I didn’t pursue the investigation. It’s my fault; I don’t deserve to be her mother.”

Lu Rui was at a loss for words, only able to pat Su Mian on the back repeatedly, trying to comfort her as well as himself.

“It’s already too late to say these things now, what’s happened has happened.”

Lu Zhanxing looked at Lu Jingzhi, his emotions suppressed as he asked, “What are you going to do about Lu Ting?”

He deliberately left Lu Jingzhi to handle it.

Lu Jingzhi remained silent for a long time before he finally moved his lips, his voice rough, “Give me some time.”

“What do you intend to do?”

Lu Jingzhi covered the emotions swirling in his eyes, “I need to understand some things.”

“Fine.”

Lu Zhanxing’s eyes held a mocking shine.

Lu Ting had been practically raised by Lu Jingzhi, and now his shock was no less than that of their parents, perhaps even greater.

Zhanxing wanted to force him to confront these realities, to let him completely give up hope, to see for himself what kind of person he had cherished and spoiled!

Knowing full well that this would add insult to injury for Lu Jingzhi, causing him deeper guilt and regret.

But Lu Zhanxing wanted Lu Jingzhi to pay for his past actions, he wished to seek ‘revenge’ for Qiaoqiao.
