Chapter 61: Attack On Academy [IV]

The Named looked at Koya and the trembling girl behind him that had turned visible... then bit his lips.

"You smell of Kirara’s blood." The guy commented and his face twisted completely as veins popped up along his cheeks and mouth. "Tell me, did you kill him?!"

"Which one... the redhead or the one acting like a woman?" Koya blinked. He could only see their nicknames and so far, he hadn’t met any Kirara.

The assassin of the Order seemed infuriated by that response as he dashed forward with his weapon intent on carving a hole through Koya and Koya defended against the strike, parrying once more and slashing him in half. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

’Human bodies are unnervingly easy to cut through...’ He wondered as the two halves of the assassin crumpled to the ground.

Unlike monster bodies with armor where you had to apply your full power to try and damage them, human bodies were thin with little to no protection and a well-timed strike with enough power could cut through one in an instant.

There was no resistance... it was just flesh and bone giving way like wet paper under a sharp enough edge.

It was disturbing how simple it was.

The last assassin... a woman tried to run off however Koya threw his sword and pierced through her head in one go, making her fall to the ground lifelessly.

The blade embedded itself so deep that the tip came out the other side and pinned her skull to the dirt.

「YOOO HE JUST ENDED THAT GUY 💀💀」

「BRO IS NOT PLAYING AROUND HOLY SHIT」

「KOYA IS ACTUALLY BUILT DIFFERENT WTF 😭」

「NAAAHHH THE SWORD THROW WAS CRAZY 🔥🔥🔥」

「THIS MAN IS A DEMON FR FR 💯💯」

Ichinose’s breath hitched as he turned to face her. There was no expression on his face... there was no satisfaction, no disgust, no nothing.

He looked at the bodies the same way someone would look at a task they’d just finished and it made her chest feel tight.

"End the stream now." He said and she didn’t waste any time.

She ended her stream immediately and Koya let out a sigh of relief and took back his weapon as the drone turned back to its portable size and she stuffed it into her pocket. "Let’s get away from here."

"I-I... don’t think I can move..." She said. Her legs were still trembling and she was covered in blood.

That was the first time she was killing someone and she felt utterly disgusted with herself.

She even wanted to throw up too however she was trying to be strong for Koya. She didn’t want him to see her as weak, not after everything he’d just done to protect her.

But her hands wouldn’t stop shaking and the smell of blood was making her stomach turn. Koya looked at her once and then walked closer.

The disgust of killing faded away immediately as she was taken into a princess carry by Koya. She could smell his sweat and everything... it made her face hot and he leaped out of the way immediately, moving with that same terrifying speed he’d used to cut through the assassins.

But this time it felt different... it was safer.

"You shouldn’t stream for long here. You don’t know who else could be watching the Stream." Koya said as he moved back to the remnants of the Class 4 building.

Once he got there, he dropped Ichinose to the ground and she looked up at him. "Go join the rest of them at the bunker."

"What about you, Koya-kun?" She looked up at him with her soft eyes. "Don’t tell me you plan on going to the main building alone?"

"I do." He said, though he was sure Mio was already there... it didn’t hurt to try at all.

What kind of bounty would be on Numb’s head? The guy was the right-hand man of the Order’s leader... that had to be worth a significant amount. "And you should be going to the bunker before more assassins come out."

With that, he turned around however the bloody Ichinose took hold of his hand as her legs trembled.

Her fingers were cold and sticky with drying blood but her grip was firm.

"Ichinose?" He turned to the girl.

"I don’t want you to go alone... please let me be useful somehow." Ichinose trembled as she looked at him.

He could swear there were tears in this girl’s eyes. Why was she crying?

"You were all alone for these past few days. I’ll show you that you can count on me too."

Koya blinked and was about to reject the offer, however a new tab popped up in front of his face. He had finished the last mission and gotten the FP only to get a new mission too.

「New Mission」

「Let Heroine: Yuu Ichinose assist you in freeing the captured Professors in the Main building and killing members of the Order」

「Reward: 10,000 FP」

’Now I can’t reject it...’ He thought. 10,000 FP was a lot... much more than any other mission from the System had earned him before.

The System knew exactly how to manipulate him and he couldn’t even be mad about it then he turned back to Ichinose who was still giving him that look.

"Alright, but you have to do what I say and don’t get captured." He said and the girl nodded in joy, the tears in her eyes replaced with something that looked like relief mixed with determination. "Let’s go then. Can you turn me invisible as well...?"

"Yes, anything I touch turns invisible alongside me, though this blood is outlining my shape even if I turn invisible." She said while looking at the blood that stained her body.

She felt even sicker looking at it. "It was really my first time... killing someone."

He looked at her face and sighed. She was trying very hard to hold it together but he could see the cracks forming.

The way her jaw was set too tight, the way her breathing was slightly uneven... She was on the edge of breaking down completely.

"You shouldn’t feel sorry for killing someone that wanted to kill you." He said and Ichinose gave him a look. "It was either you or him and you made a good choice. Don’t feel sorry for it, and don’t hesitate anymore. There are really some people that don’t deserve to live. Well as for the blood... I think I have a can of water here."

Ichinose looked at him and bit her lip.

’He’s right... I’m being childish. If I didn’t do that then I would have been the one that he killed. If he didn’t feel any guilt for trying to end my life then why should I do the same for him?’ She thought and took a deep breath as Koya doused her as well as her uniform with water.

She had taken off the cloak and the white was still reddish however the blood that had covered her was gone.

Her hands were clean now but she could still feel the phantom weight of the dagger in her palm.

"Let’s move."

...

Two assassins from the Order stood outside a specific door.

"I can’t believe that Boss won’t let us have fun with them." One of them said. "The women here are really top-notch."

"Keep your dick in your pants, Tarus... this is our first redemption mission since failing the last one brutally so we need to complete this one to get our former positions back." The second one said with a sigh and the first one turned back to him.

"Yeah right, I’m still intrigued about this Academy technology... they don’t even use keys but rather keycards, isn’t that amazing?" He asked and the second one turned to him only for the first one to fall over with blood coming out from his head and leaking into the ground.

It looked as if he had been hit by a projectile in the back of the head though the second one could not detect where the weapon was.

’Is it invisible?’ He thought while punching at the air in front of him and behind him as well, swinging wildly in every direction.

His fists hit nothing but empty space and panic was starting to set in. However he was struck in the head as well... this time from the front and died immediately, the blood pouring over and staining the ground.

He didn’t even have time to scream.

The bloodied keycard was picked up from the ground and Ichinose appeared, wiping a bit of sweat from her forehead. Her hands were shaking slightly but she forced them steady.

"You were slower for the second one." Koya commented from the far end of the hall and she stiffened, placing the keycard against the door.

The door pinged then opened, revealing several professors who had been strapped with the same Mana Suppression machine he had worn when he was kidnapped.

He hadn’t met some of these Professors but Ichinose ran forward and looked at them.

One of the Professors for Class 3 raised her head to the right with visible effort... her face was pale and her breathing was shallow.

"Th-... there." She managed to croak out and then Ichinose turned to the right, seeing a remote on the table. Ichinose walked to the table and took hold of the remote, pressing a green button and the suppressants fell off the imprisoned professors with a series of metallic clinks.

Immediately the woman who could barely breathe took in a deep breath, her chest heaving as color slowly returned to her face.

"Thank you girl... I appreciate all of the help, of you and your... friend." She said while addressing Koya with a nod. "Now, you can let the Professors handle the situation."

She stood up and several professors did the same, including Tetsuya and they all charged out of the room, leaving it empty in a matter of seconds.

The sound of their footsteps echoed down the hall and then faded entirely.

"I think our job is done." Ichinose said as she let down the remote and looked at Koya.

He had been teaching her the 「Art Of Murder」which involved killing humans as if they were monsters or something like that.

Her ability was best suited for assassination so she tried to learn and she was confident in taking those assassins that had attacked her initially though she simply wasn’t as athletic as Koya.

She didn’t have his reflexes or his strength or that terrifying calm he carried when killing but she was learning.

"It’s not." Koya said. The Class 1 students as well as the members of the Order were gathered on the rooftop of the Main Building which meant Numb would be there too.

「Mission completed」

「Your reward has been added to your outstanding balance of FP」

"Now you better head back to the Bunker." Koya said as he walked over to the window that had metal bars covering it.

"Bunker? But we’re a team... you taught me how to—"

"The battle that’s about to happen is above you and me." He said while bending the metal and giving himself enough space to come out through the window.

The bars groaned and twisted under his hands like they were made of clay instead of reinforced steel. "You should go somewhere else, though I enjoyed working with you today Ichinose."

He smiled at her and her heart skipped a beat, however the next moment, he leaped out of the window and held onto another windowsill.

He would climb the side of the building to the top to get a good view of the roof. She watched him go and felt something twist in her chest.

...

Numb stood on the roof with students of Class 1 and even a few of Class 2 students here. He had long flowing gray hair and a mask that covered half of his face however the blue line that went down his forehead could not go unnoticed.

He was certainly a very powerful person, and the students knelt near the edges of the railings. Itsuki had a few wounds on his face and Miyuki had bawled her eyes out.

As for Akari... to say she wasn’t afraid was an understatement and there were a few people like Shion who were just bland.

Their expressions were completely neutral as if they were watching a lecture instead of being held hostage.

All of them were wearing mana suppressants which meant they were at the mercy of this man in front of them.

"The reason all of you are gathered here is not because I’m interested in you. I honestly couldn’t care less but since Pale Sword comes to your Academy and she’s a noble, she’ll naturally be within your classes or somewhere below but not certainly at the bottom." Numb said. "You will drag her out to me and then, I’ll kill her and truly keep the title of successor."

Numb himself was the direct son of the Leader of the Order which made him the right-hand man and next in line so why was his position being threatened by Pale Sword who was going for a school life?

She was supposed to be underneath him... always. That was the natural order of things but the Leader had been giving her more attention lately and more praise too.

He couldn’t stand for it at all.

Just then, the Professors reached the roof and they were in the open roof now.

"Oh, you all are free...?" Numb asked while placing a hand on his chin. "It must be that blond haired Class 5 bastard that’s been killing all my Captains. When I’m done here, I’ll have a word with him."

"You will not!" Tetsuya said while holding his spear.

His body began vibrating with mana and unlike mana mode which spread the mana outward in a blue aura, he used it inwardly strengthening all of his organs and Tetsuya shot forward with a shockwave that blew everyone’s hair and clothes.

He closed the distance and thrust his spear forward.

"Forward Dragon Thrust!" The mana coalesced around the tip of the spear and moved however Numb used one finger to block against the strike completely, stopping the force and drawing Tetsuya to a stop.

"Are you really a Professor? Why are you so weak?" Numb asked as he flicked aside the spear and it soared away to another part of the Academy.

...

"I can’t believe I survived." Shusuke said.

He was standing a bit away from the door to the Underground bunker and two of the Class 4 students were still verifying their IDs to get in. "It’s all thanks to that student Amagi, right? Very good... I will not deduct more of his point—"

WHOOSH! STAB!

The two students turned back and saw that Shusuke had been impaled through the head by a spear and it was jammed into the ground too.

"What the fuck..." The first one said. "Let’s get medica—"

"Are you crazy? That’s Professor Shusuke, the History Professor and besides when we were being captured, he didn’t even try to help us out." The second one said while dragging the first one into the bunker and closing the door behind him. "Good riddance."
