Chapter 149: Knock Knock, It’s Trauma

Inside the Hero Association’s field command post, Blazren stood in front of the communication terminal.

He was surrounded by maps, live reports, and red-marked zones.

He pressed the button and spoke clearly into the com.

"All units, regroup and move to BC-3. We’ve located one of the largest remaining bases."

His voice echoed across the different team channels.

"It’s likely to be heavily guarded. Be ready. Don’t let your guard down."

The B-Rank heroes nearby responded quickly.

"Yes, sir!"

"We’re moving!"

A few A-Rank heroes stepped forward and nodded as well.

"We’ll take the lead when we arrive."

Blazren glanced at them, his tone sharp.

"Good. Stay tight. You find anything moving, hit fast, hit hard."

Within minutes, the combined team set out toward BC-3.

---

The group arrived at the edge of the zone.

One of the B-Rank heroes stepped forward and looked around. "This place gives me chills."

Suddenly, a low growl echoed from behind the broken walls.

Mutated slaves began to emerge from the shadows.

Twisted bodies, pale eyes, and markings glowing red.

Some dragged weapons. Others moved on all fours like beasts.

"Damn it," an A-Rank shouted. "They’re here too!"

The enemies let out a distorted scream—and charged.

"Form up!" yelled the lead A-Rank. "Take them down!"

The heroes moved fast.

One B-Rank crouched, and his skin hardened into stone.

His body turned gray, thick lines forming along his arms and chest.

A mutated slave swung a blade at him, but it bounced off harmlessly.

He punched the enemy in the gut, sending it flying through a wall.

Another hero raised her arms, and iron spikes rose from the ground.

She waved her hand again, and the metal shifted into sharp spears, stabbing two charging enemies clean through.

"Keep pushing!" she shouted.

A younger B-Rank stepped forward, his body changing shape.

Feathers spread down his arms. His eyes sharpened.

Wings formed behind him.

He soared into the air, scanned the area, then shouted down.

"Six more on the left! One big one coming from the alley!"

The lead A-Rank turned to a taller man. "Go stall the big one!"

The tall hero nodded, and his muscles bulked up instantly.

His hands became claws, and his legs thickened.

He dropped to all fours, becoming bearman.

He roared as he sprinted straight toward the large enemy.

He tackled the mutated brute and wrestled it to the ground, growling as he slammed it with both arms.

Another B-Rank nearby screamed as he was cornered.

A female A-Rank dashed to help him, her body shifting.

Long vines burst from her arms, growing fast and wrapping around two enemies.

The vines thickened, pulled tight, and crushed them in seconds.

She turned to the scared hero. "Focus! Stay close!"

He nodded quickly and ran to regroup.

The fire wielder from earlier rejoined the front line, hurling flames across the path.

Behind him, the stone-skinned hero raised a piece of broken pavement and used it like a shield, blocking incoming attacks.

From above, the eagle-shifted scout circled again.

"They’re regrouping near the big gate! They’re not running!"

"They’re defending something," the metal user muttered. "Something inside."

The bear-shifted man roared as he finished the larger brute and turned back to the group.

"We press now!" the lead A-Rank shouted.

"Break through before they reset their line!"

The team charged.

The metal controller sent spikes under the ground.

Seconds later, sharp pillars erupted behind enemy lines, catching them off guard.

The one with growth vines leapt ahead, arms swinging, entangling two more.

The eagle scout dove down and sliced through a fleeing slave with sharp talons.

They reached the gate.

The stone-skinned B-Rank slammed into it with his full weight. The doors cracked.

The bear-shifted man joined him, and together, they bashed it down.

The inside of the base was dark—quiet.

The heroes stepped slowly, weapons in hand, eyes sharp.

One of the B-Rank heroes whispered, "It’s too quiet..."

Another followed behind him. "Is this base also empty? Did they leave again?"

A crackle came from the comms. It was Blazren’s voice.

"Just be careful," he said.

"This was one of their biggest bases. There’s no way they cleared it out that fast."

The lead A-Rank nodded. "Understood."

The team continued forward, deeper into the base.

Metal walls lined the narrow halls. The air was thick with dust and faint heat.

A faint light flickered overhead.

Suddenly, they heard a low thud... then another.

Everyone stopped.

A heavy breathing echoed through the halls.

The eagle scout tilted his head. "Something big’s up ahead."

"Move slow," said the flame wielder.

They turned the corner, eyes locked forward.

Then—

A deafening roar exploded from deeper inside.

The whole team froze.

"What was that?" one of the B-Ranks asked, voice tense.

"Definitely not human," said the stone-skinned hero.

The bear-shifted warrior cracked his neck. "Finally."

The lead A-Rank raised a hand. "Stay sharp. We go in together."

They pushed forward into a larger chamber.

Old machines lined the walls, some broken, others still glowing with red light.

In the center of the chamber stood a large figure.

All the heroes stopped in their tracks.

"What the hell is that..." one B-Rank hero whispered, eyes wide.

It wasn’t just big—it was wrong.

The creature was a twisted humanoid.

Its body had numerous limbs—six arms, two legs, and a long, coiling tail.

Black-feathered wings spread wide behind its back.

Three heads rested on its shoulders.

One looked like a wolf, another like a hawk, and the third like a bull, all snarling and twitching.

Parts of its body were covered in fur, scales, and bone plates.

Its breathing was loud, raspy, and wet.

It was disgusting to look at.

One of the A-Rank heroes backed a step.

"That’s not just a slave... that’s something else."

Another B-Rank hero gritted his teeth. "They really made something like this?"

The eagle scout frowned.

"That thing isn’t just a fighter. It’s built like a monster. Who even controls it?"

The flame wielder narrowed his eyes. "Nobody. It’s probably left behind to kill intruders."

The lead A-Rank took a step forward.

"Get ready," he said firmly. "No holding back."
