Hello Mr. King-Chapter 70 - Born in A Test Tube
Chapter 70: Born in A Test Tube
“Uncle…” Song Qian walked by Yun Xiangxiang’s side. She mumbled in a volume only she could hear.
It rained unexpectedly just as the both of them left the vicinity of Guiyi Courtyard. They looked for a Chinese pavilion hastily to take shelter from the rain.
“I’ll call Song Yao and have him send an umbrella here,” Song Qian didn’t expect it to rain so suddenly.
Yun Xiangxiang looked up at the sky that wasn’t exactly gloomy, “It’s just a shower. It won’t last for long.”
However, Song Qian had already made the phone call.
Yun Xiangxiang sat at the side of the pavilion’s pillar. She turned her body to observe the raindrops that fell onto the surface of the pond to create circles of ripples.
“It’s the young master,” Song Qian exclaimed beside Yun Xiangxiang’s ear just when she was engrossed in the scenery.
Yun Xiangxiang was mesmerized by what she saw when she raised her head.
The man was wearing long robes. He held an oil-paper umbrella in the blurry spray of the drizzle. He tread through the misty rain to get closer to them.
“We can go now. Lunch is almost ready,” Song Mian handed an umbrella over.
“I am starving. Let’s go, Xiangxiang,” Song Qian took the umbrella cleverly. She then opened the umbrella before leaving in a stride.
Yun Xiangxiang: …
“Qianqian!” Song Mian only took one extra umbrella. What would happen to her if Song Qian took it?
Song Qian who was called by Yun Xiangxiang turned her head. Only then did she notice something wrong. However, she felt lazy walking back, “Just share an umbrella with the young master. It’s the modern era now. You don’t have to be so conservative. It’s just sharing an umbrella.”
She continued marching forward once she finished what she wanted to say.
Yun Xiangxiang: …
“Let’s go,” Song Mian switched the hand that was holding the umbrella to another to leave half the space under the umbrella for Yun Xiangxiang.
It’s already the modern era. Sharing an umbrella was no big deal. The noble was already willing to hold the umbrella for her. There was no need to be melodramatic.
The both of them walked side by side silently under the oil-paper umbrella that hid them from the drizzle.
“Song Mian…” Yun Xiangxiang suddenly spoke. She then raised her head to look at him, “You never had the chance to be close to a girl before, did you?”
Song Mian’s eyes lit up, “Yeah.”
But Yun Xiangxiang lowered her head, “No wonder. I feel that Qianqian might have misunderstood what you thought. She seems to be trying to bring us together as a couple.”
Yun Xiangxiang would be dense if she didn’t notice Song Qian’s intentions. However, she didn’t notice Song Mian’s feelings. It was mainly because for reasons unknown, she thought that Song Mian wouldn’t like a plain Jane like her.
You didn’t misunderstand…
Song Mian really wanted to say that to Yun Xiangxiang. However, he thought about the fact that she was still a minor as she was only seventeen. He was worried that she wouldn’t be able to understand. She might even feel violated if he blurted that out. It would be bad if she took it the wrong way and thought that he had some perverted interests.
Just wait it out for now. He could tell her next year. He could also use this time to let her understand how outstanding he was.
Song Mian didn’t answer. Yun Xiangxiang also thought that it would be a difficult question to answer for Song Mian.
Yun Xiangxiang was actually subconsciously testing Song Mian. She couldn’t help but take a breath of relief. It was fortunate that Song Mian wasn’t the person she suspected he would be.
“What does your uncle like, Song Mian?” Yun Xiangxiang immediately changed the topic happily.
“Uncle…” Song Mian frowned. His gaze shifted to the pot of orchid that Yun Xiangxiang was holding, “The one who gave you that flower pot?”
“Yeah,” Yun Xiangxiang nodded, “I heard the sound of Erhu. I don’t know why, but there was an uncontrollable impulse that made me want to enter that place. He didn’t reproach me for interrupting, and even gave me this flower pot. I was a bit embarrassed, but he didn’t allow me to decline. I want to send a gift in return. It doesn’t have to be expensive. It’s just a show of sincerity.”
“He’s not my uncle. He’s my father,” Song Mian suddenly announced.
Yun Xiangxiang stopped walking abruptly and looked dumbly at Song Mian, “H…He looked so young!”
Song Mian was almost twenty-seven years old. However, that man only looked like he was thirty!
“He’s already fifty years old,” Song Mian said with a smile, “Yeah, he has a special way to preserve his health so he does not look old.”
No matter how well he was wearing it, it was terrifying for a man in his fifties to look like he was thirty.
However, it was normal for them to have some special methods to preserve their health when she thought about their family being full of skilled doctors.
“Then you must have your mother’s eyes,” Yun Xiangxiang smiled.
“Should be so…” Song Mian had hesitation in his tone.
“Should be?” Yun Xiangxiang immediately thought about the possible situations where a child never saw his mother, “I’m sorry, I…”
“it’s not what you think,” Song Mian answered with a normal expression, “My mother could be alive. I was a test tube baby. She isn’t my father’s wife. Strictly speaking, my father hasn’t married until today. She took a sum of money and was responsible for giving birth to me.”
Yun Xiangxiang didn’t expect Song Mian to have this kind of origin. She didn’t know what to say.
Song Mian felt Yun Xiangxiang’s feelings of sympathy. There was no way he would let this chance escape, “Ancestors of the Song Family had serious cases of incestuous marriage. It caused the main family to face a lot of difficulties in reproduction. It was even harder when it came to my father. He tried IVF more than ten times in China only for it all to end in failure. My father could only make his search overseas. Thirty five parent bodies, and only my mother managed to give birth to me.”
“Then your…” Yun Xiangxiang subconsciously asked. She immediately noticed that she crossed the line right after the beginning of her question.
“Everything about me is perfectly functional until now,” However, Song Mian answered seriously.
For reasons unknown, Yun Xiangxiang felt her face getting hot. She lowered her head and pretended to be an ostrich.
Naturally, she did not notice the hint of smile radiating from Song Mian’s beautifully glittering eyes from above.
They reached the dining hall before long. Yun Xiangxiang felt sorry about taking the stacks of food with her chopsticks. They looked like exquisite art. She felt a bit of guilt for ruining these things.
“These are all normal ingredients. However, the vegetables were planted in the mountain behind our house. This manor has been arranged by a great Feng Shui master. Fruits and vegetables grown in a place of good Feng Shui are also tastier. Have some more,” Song Mian gave a piece of sliced lotus root to Yun Xiangxiang.
The lotus root felt glutinous in the mouth. Sweetness would seep out from it when it was chewed. It was really delicious!
Yun Xiangxiang threw away any inhibitions she had after her taste buds got excited. It was like what Song Mian said; their family’s dishes were so sumptuous, one could even bite off their tongue.
It completely preserved the original freshness of the ingredients. It didn’t conflict with the seasonings either. Yun Xiangxiang had two bowls of rice, which was unusual.
Yun Xiangxiang left the Song Family’s manor after lunch with a pot of orchid and a few packets of medicine.
In the end, she didn’t get to know the preferences of Song Mian’s father. She could only take it slow. She would send that gift once she came across one she felt was suitable.
“I’ll take care of this pot of orchid from now on.” Song Qian looked for a good spot to place the orchid once they got home. She then warned everyone, “None of you can touch this at your whim and fancy.”
Yun Xiangxiang had a bad feeling when she saw how Song Qian acted, “Is this pot of orchid costly?”
“Costly?” Song Qian smirked, “This pot of orchid costs more than your house.”
Yun Xiangxiang: !!!
Oh, so she didn’t eat a house, she brought one back instead…
