Chapter 20: Bubbling Emotions

In the morning, I received a message from a certain someone. The message instructed me to come to their dorm room after school and not to form a group with anyone. As a result, I rejected Amelia's proposal to team up. The school had asked us to form groups of three people from different classes for a special exercise. We were not told what the exercise was going to be about.

After school, I returned to my dorm room to kill some time before the meeting. I spent most of it chatting with Amelia and Jeffrey. When the appointed time came, I left them, exited the room, and approached the elevator, pressing the call button. When it arrived, I stepped inside and pressed the button for the fourth floor.

The hallway was bustling with students chatting, mostly girls. I approached room 401. The door opened, and I was greeted by an angelic smile. It was Mia. She was still dressed in her school uniform, but for some reason, it looked a little rumpled, with the top button undone, exposing her cleavage.

"Sin? What are you doing here?" she asked.

"I came to see Ava."

"Ava?"

"We were supposed to meet here."

"Oh! So that's how it is. I'll go get her."

Mia promptly shut the door in my face, leaving me standing in the hallway with everyone staring at me. I waited for a couple of minutes until the door opened again. This time, instead of an angelic smile, I was met with a scornful expression—Ava's scornful face.

"Uh—I can't believe you actually came."

What's with her? She's even more vicious than usual.

"I could leave if you want. I'm not exactly excited to be here."

"Shut up and come inside."

By her gracious invitation, I stepped into her dorm room. Upon entering, I was greeted by another visitor—Liam.

"Hey, Sin! What's up? I never expected to see you here."

"Nothing much. Ava and I had something to discuss. What are you doing here?"

"Moron! He's obviously here to see his girlfriend. Stop asking stupid questions," Ava snapped.

So this was the reason for her bad mood. Maybe we shouldn't have met today. I didn't feel like being an outlet for her pent-up frustrations. She had that psychotic look in her eyes, and it was directed straight at me. Vampires are not the most stable creatures. They aren't the usual predators; most predators are driven by instinct or a primal urge to survive.

Vampires, on the other hand, are primarily driven by emotion. They experience stronger feelings than any other creature, and their strength is determined by their emotional state. That was why Ava had been so weak when we first met. I could only imagine the psychotic thoughts swirling around in her head.

"Oh, I see. I could tell the two of you have history when we were talking the other day, but I didn't realize you two were this close."

"We are not! Don't get the wrong idea; I don't even like him."

Would it kill her to be a little more considerate with her words?

"Anyway," she continued, "we were supposed to meet up with someone else, but he's not here yet. Sin, you wait here; I'll go wait in my room until he arrives."

"I think I'd prefer waiting in your room with you."

No way I was going to be left here with these two mooning over each other.

"What! You're not stepping a foot inside my room. You don't have a choice. So shut up and do what i say."

"I do have a choice, and I choose to wait in your room."

"You—"

"It's in your best interest for me not to be left out here with them."

Ava glared at me intently before relenting, understanding the meaning behind my words.

"Fine."

When I entered her room, I was hit with a flowery, sweet aroma. Her room was even more extravagant, filled with plushies and posters of boy bands. I glanced around, ready to take a seat on a fluffy pink cushion on the floor, but just then, a kick flew my way. Ava executed a perfect roundhouse kick aimed at my head, showing no regard for the fact that her short skirt revealed her underwear.

I quickly grabbed her leg just before her kick could make contact, leaving her foot suspended in the air.

"Let go!" she shouted.

"Is this how you treat all your guests?"

"You're not a guest! I hate you!" she lashed out even more.

Vampires are far too emotional. I needed to find a way to calm her down. I released her leg and closed the distance between us, wrapping my arms around her torso and pulling her close, our bodies touching to prevent her from escaping.

"Stop! What are you doing?" she protested.

I looked deep into her eyes before speaking, ensuring she understood.

"I won't let go until you calm down."

She struggled at first, but then her body just collapsed against me, seeming to lose all her strength, with me being the only thing holding her up.

"I'm sorry," she said, her voice trembling slightly. I didn't look at her, but I knew she was likely crying too. She was no longer trying to hurt me, so I could have let her go, but I didn't. I continued to hold her tightly. It felt instinctive; it didn't seem right to let her go.

Knock, knock.

After a couple of minutes, a knock came at the door. As if jolted awake by the sound, both of us separated from one another.

"Ava, you've got another visitor," came the voice from outside.

Ava opened the door to find Mia standing beside the person we were waiting for. Without so much as a greeting, he stepped inside the room with his hands in his pockets, eyeing me with indifference.

"You can't wear cologne; your stink is tearing me up," he said.

"What?!" Ava asked, baffled.

"He's talking to me," I replied.

"Well, anyway, thanks for coming, Leto Manasseh." Ava greeted him still a little flustered from our earlier squabble.
