Hellhound At Supernatural Academy-Chapter 13: Liam vs Zane
Chapter 13: Liam vs Zane
The training hall erupted in a cacophony of shouts and cheers as Liam entered the fighting area, while the jeers directed at Zane were equally loud. It was painfully obvious who the crowd favorite was. No one expected much from Zane, but I had the privilege of training with him, so my money was on him.
The two contenders stared each other down before assuming their fighting stances. Liam practiced karate, so he took on the horse stance, positioning his feet wider than shoulder-width apart, with his knees bent and body lowered. From what I knew, this stance is primarily used for stability, which is a crucial element of karate. His hands were open and positioned in front of his body, palms facing outward, ready to intercept or block incoming attacks.
Since Zane practiced Wing Chun like myself, he assumed the goat stance. His feet were shoulder-width apart, with his knees slightly bent, creating a low stance that helped lower his center of gravity. His hands were in Fook Sau position, with his palm facing upward. The fingers were relaxed and slightly spread, with the tips pointing forward. This positioning allowed for sensitivity and control over an opponent's movements.
Zane initiated the attack with Lin Wan Kuen, releasing a rapid series of punches aimed at Liam's head and upper body. Liam effectively pivoted to evade each attack. Pivoting involves rotating on the ball of the foot to change direction while maintaining balance and stability, and he executed it effortlessly. Zane then attempted to deliver a low kick aimed at Liam's feet.
In response, Liam executed a perfect cross-step, lifting his left foot and crossing it over his right, which remained stationary. This movement allowed him to land in a new position, right under Zane's center of gravity.
In one fluid motion, he stood in such close proximity to Zane that their bodies were touching. He held a firm grip on Zane's wrist. His muscles tightened as he shifted his weight to his back leg. He pulled Zane's arm while simultaneously stepping behind him to create a rotational force. This force, coupled with his lightning-fast movement, caused Zane to flip over and crash down onto his back.
A mixture of confusion and pain shot through Zane's face as he stared up at Liam from the ground. Everyone held their breath, unable to comprehend what had just happened. One moment, Zane was delivering a low kick; the next, he was on his back. It was the first time that day the training hall had been so quiet. Liam's footwork was absolutely remarkable, his feet moving at a speed comparable to Zane's Lin Wan Kuen.
Zane slowly got to his feet, clutching his lower back. He resumed his stance while staring intently at Liam. As soon as the match began again, Zane attacked with a roundhouse kick but, at the last moment, switched to a stomp kick aimed at Liam's foot. The attack caught Liam off guard, causing him to hesitate, which was all the time Zane needed to deliver a devastating blow to his solar plexus.
Liam's knees gave out, causing him to plummet to the ground. There was another attack mixed in with the knee strike to the solar plexus—a jab to his spleen. The spleen is located in the upper left quadrant of the abdomen, just beneath the rib cage. I had experienced the pain of getting hit in the spleen, so I knew how excruciating it was.
An advantage of attacking the spleen is that it causes the body to enter a shock response due to the pain and trauma. He would start sweating uncontrollably, then it would feel like his heart was pounding out of his chest, and then finally came the lightheadedness.
Everyone watched with bated breath as Liam writhed on the ground in pain. From my vantage point, I could see Mia's horrified expression as she covered her mouth in shock at the sight below her.
I was about to crack a small smile, but in an instant, seemingly unharmed, Liam sprang to his feet as if nothing had happened. The look of bewilderment on Zane's face was evident as he watched Liam assume his fighting stance once again, smiling as if nothing had transpired, without even a hint of hesitation in his movements. One thing was for sure: Liam was definitely a monster.
Something felt strange about Liam; it was almost as if he were a different person from just a few moments ago. His aura had completely changed, and the kind-hearted expression he once wore was replaced by a cold stare. I couldn't help but feel intrigued by this transformation. He reminded me of someone.
Zane quickly regained his composure and assumed his fighting stance. He unclenched his fist and began unleashing a series of palm strikes aimed at Liam's head and solar plexus. Liam continued to pivot with each attack, shifting his weight perfectly while maintaining balance. He was also trying to implement various off-balancing techniques. I watched in amazement as he controlled every one of Zane's strikes. It was like Zane was dancing to his rhythm.
Liam made a swift diagonal step forward, disrupting Zane's balance. Seizing the opportunity, he attempted a side kick, but Zane stepped back to avoid the attack, which allowed Liam to perform a perfectly timed leg sweep, knocking him to the ground.
Zane quickly got to his feet and began throwing straight punches at Liam. Liam sidestepped and delivered a well-placed side kick to Zane's knee, then pivoted into a backfist, striking Zane's face with Unbelievable force. Zane's expression twisted in anger as he wiped the blood dripping from his lip.
Liam effortlessly dodged Zane's incoming attacks and followed up with a hook punch, an uppercut, and finally a roundhouse kick. Zane, dazed by the onslaught, staggered around, throwing poorly aimed strikes before Liam delivered the final blow—a hammerfist to the collarbone.
The attack instantly knocked him out, affirming Liam's victory.
The hall erupted in cheers, with some of his friends from Class A shouting the loudest, their excitement palpable. Mia ran from her seat and embraced him in a hug.

My classmates watched the scene unfold, their sadness evident in the expressions on their faces. Some had broken into tears, while others hung their heads in shame. Their morale was starting to diminish; not one of them had managed to secure a single victory.
Zane had fought valiantly, giving them a glimmer of hope for a win. If things continued like this, the class might not recover from this loss. They'd be completely useless to me. It was now up to me to ensure that didn't happen.
