HEIRESS REBORN: MARRYING HER EX-FIANCÉ-Chapter 35: Liam Smith (2)
For some reason, Liam Smith understood the unspoken words exchanged, even if the Young miss Kingston said nothing after.
Even a fool could tell that she did not want to associate with him at all.
’....Just an aspiring actor...’ Her words echoed repeatedly in his mind, and he did not like her dismissive attitude towards him one bit.
That word ’Just,’ he suddenly realized that he hated it deeply because she had described his career and himself as nothing worth mentioning in her presence.
For Liam, whom others have praised to be as handsome a piece of jade, and like a prince straight out of fiction stories since he was a child, this was a big blow to his pride.
From his elementary school to high school now, he had always been in the center of admiration. It was also the same in a banquet with the top and wealthy families.
The heart-shaped eyes of these privileged and arrogant young misses could not be more visible and familiar to him. Yet only one of them had dismissed him as something insignificant.
Like he wasn’t worth her eyes and attention.
Liam did not understand. At the beginning, he noticed that she couldn’t take her eyes off him, yet why was she now behaving indifferent to him?
Was she those type of girls who loved playing hard to get?
’Her eyes were somehow different though....’ Liam recalled the way she stared at him at the beginning. It wasn’t the familiar love-struck eyes and admiration from the girls at his high school.
It was different from them.
Liam couldn’t put his fingers on it, but for some reason, he detected that sense of revulsion from her like she hated him. However, he still did not understand.
He and the Young miss Kingston have never met before, so how could she hate him? Besides, if she truly hated him, would she have spoken to him?
’She must be playing hard to get.’ Liam dismissed those thoughts and decided that the Young miss Kingston must have fallen in love with him at first sight, but was too shy to come up and express her feelings like the other young misses.
They were different from the girls at high school and have been privileged from birth. Interacting with someone like himself must be somewhat demeaning to them.
The Young miss Kingston must be the same and decided to express her affection in such an interesting way.
Liam’s confidence bounced back in full force at his conclusion. He then decided to accept the false pretense of the Young miss Kingston.
’’I understand, Young miss Kingston. Uncle Mark must have been a bit eager and you must have misunderstood his intention.’’ He accepted her words with his signature gentle smile.
’’...’’
"As an apology on his behalf, may I have the honor of requesting a dance with you when the time is right?" He took a step closer and dipped into a polite bow, his arm extending slightly towards her.
’’....!’’ His sudden movement caught Ayana off guard, and she almost took a step back. Her gaze shifted to Liam’s extended arm, her brows knitting ever so slightly.
Huh?
Did Liam just ask her for a dance?
A spark of annoyance flared within Ayana, and she fought the urge to let her irritation show.
How on earth had Liam twisted her pointed dismissal into a sign of interest? Was he that oblivious, or was he simply choosing to ignore her previous words?
The polite smile she wore became almost imperceptibly strained as she looked up at him. "I believe you may have misunderstood, Mr. Smith. Dancing was the last thing on my mind."
In other words, I refuse.
’’Then....’’
’’When a lady says no, it means she’s not interested in you.’’ Another voice overwhelmed Liam’s—one that Ayana found familiar and quite mischievous. She sensed a presence behind her, and before she could react, her shoulder was gently grabbed from behind, followed by a familiar face leaning close, just above her left shoulder.
Matt?
She instantly recognized, glancing at the face close to hers.
When did he arrive?
’’Besides....’’ Matt straightened himself, yet his hands remained firmly on her shoulders. ’’Ayana is off limits....what’s your name?’’
’’...Liam Smith.’’
’’Yes, my dear Ayana is off limits, Mr. Smith.’’ He boldly announced. ’’You wouldn’t want to steal another person’s girl now, would you?’’ He then teased with a playful grin.
Another person’s girl?
The Young miss Kingston is off limits?
My dear Ayana?
Matt’s words sparked a fresh wave of murmurs for the eyes paying attention to Ayana and her group.
’....Matt.’ Ayana almost groaned aloud, wanting to shake her head at this playboy who had given this guests another topic to discuss. She could already imagine the new rumors spreading about herself and the Young master Easmond.
’I hope Axel won’t be offended.’
"What are you doing here?" she asked, lifting her gaze slightly to meet his eyes
’’Well, I arrived earlier and have been waiting for you. Though it seemed you have been held on the spot for quite a while.’’ Matt pointedly glanced at her relatives and Liam.
’’....You misunderstood, Young master.’’ Liam had already stood upright and explained with a polite smile. ’’Uncle mark was just introducing me to Young miss Kingston as a distant relative.’’
’’A distant relative?’’ Matt tilted his head slightly, a mischievous smirk forming on his lips. ’’Then I guess the Ayana and Axel can be considered distant relative, right?’’
’Huh? How did she and Axel suddenly became related?’ Ayana’s confusion mirrored that of the rest of the Kingston family, with curious glances exchanged among the spectating guests.
"You don’t know?" Matt noticed their bewilderment and continued in a casual tone. ’’There was said to be an arranged marriage between the ancestors of Kratos family and Kingston family. My two best friends can be considered distant relatives because of that.’’ he stated proudly, as if relishing the estranged connection.
"If Mr. Smith considers Ayana as a distant relative, then I guess I should warn Axel to be wary of Ayana when it comes to his succession rights. Isn’t that right, Eldest Master Kingston?"
