Heavenly Opposers-Chapter 369 - 368: The Family Comes for Blood.
Lin Hao finally found his voice. It took him several long seconds. His throat felt tight, and his thoughts were still spinning from everything that had just happened. The pavilion around them was wrecked, but he barely registered the damage.
"What have you done?" The words came out broken, barely above a whisper. He turned toward Azrail, and rage warred with desperation in his eyes. "What have you done to my daughter?!"
Azrail met his gaze calmly. He did not look guilty or sorry. "I saved her life. And yours as well."
He gestured at the pavilion. Small traces of stellar embers still drifted in the air. Dark spots marked the ground where bodies had fallen. The air smelled of smoke and blood.
"She’s not the gentle girl you raised, Lin Hao. She never was. You knew it, deep down. Every time she smiled and nodded while thinking three steps ahead. Every time she played weak, while calculating how to survive. She’s brilliant, ruthless, and powerful. And this realm was too small to contain that safely. She would have been hunted or forced to hide forever. This gives her room to become what she actually is."
Lin Rou’s sobs had quieted to ragged breathing. She stayed on her knees, one hand gripping her husband’s sleeve. She looked up at Azrail with red-rimmed eyes. Her face was pale and streaked with tears. "Will we ever see her again? Tell me the truth."
"Yes." This time Azrail’s voice softened slightly. "It will take time. Years, possibly decades, depending on how quickly she adapts. But I know she is a survivor. She’ll master her power, find a way to stabilise across dimensional barriers, and eventually return. Probably stronger than anything this realm has ever seen. The potential she carries is far beyond what anyone here can match."
He reached into his spatial ring and produced two more crystals. They looked exactly like the one he had given Lin Mei. He held them steady in his palm.
"These are communication nodes. They are linked to the one your daughter has. When she activates hers, you’ll be able to send messages. Short ones only. Dimensional bandwidth is limited. But it will be enough to know she is alive, to offer support, to keep some connection."
He held them out.
Lin Hao stared at the crystals, then at Azrail’s face. He searched those ancient eyes for any sign of a lie. "Why? Why do all this? What do you gain from protecting us? There has to be more to it." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
Azrail’s smile was slight and entirely honest. "Your daughter’s debt. When she returns powerful enough to be useful, she’ll owe me. And debts to me are valuable currency. But beyond that, something almost genuine flickered across his face.
He lowered his hand, still offering the crystals. Lin Hao slowly reached out and took them. They pulsed with dark light. They felt warm against his palm, almost alive.
"What do we need to do?" he asked quietly. His voice sounded tired.
"Just sit back and relax," Azrail said simply. "The Burning Sky family will retaliate. Vice Master Luo will want blood for his daughter. The family master might personally lead the assault. They’ll come for you within days, maybe hours. They will not let this pass."
Terror flashed across both parents’ faces. Lin Rou clutched her chest. Lin Hao’s grip on the crystals tightened until his knuckles turned white. The Burning Sky family was powerful. Their revenge would be total.
"But I’ll be here," Azrail continued. "My people will establish defensive perimeters around your compound. When the family attacks, we’ll annihilate them so thoroughly that no other power in this region ever thinks about threatening the Lin Clan again. The example will last for generations."
Valencia stepped forward. Her pink hair caught the lantern light. Her golden eyes glowed faintly. "We’ve already begun preparations. We have coordinated with allied merchants to ensure supply lines remain open. We have established surveillance networks to track the family’s movements. There will be no surprises. We know exactly where they are and how they are moving."
Lin Rou wiped her eyes. She tried to steady her breathing. "And the price for this protection? You said Mei’er would owe you a debt. What about us? What do we owe?"
"Your continued existence serves my purposes," Azrail said bluntly. "Your daughter needs anchor points in this realm. Family, home, reasons to return. If you are dead, she has no motivation to come back. She might stay in the higher realms indefinitely, building power and connections there. I want her return, which means I want you alive."
He tilted his head slightly.
"Though if you want to formalise additional debts for additional services, we can negotiate. Perhaps the Lin Clan could serve as local representatives for certain business interests I’m developing. Perhaps your trading networks could facilitate resource distribution for larger projects. It would be a partnership."
"You want to use us," Lin Hao said. There was no heat in the words. Just tired acknowledgement. He understood the position they were in.
"I want mutually beneficial cooperation," Azrail corrected. "You get protection, resources, and elevation beyond what you could achieve alone. I get local influence, trading networks, and grateful allies who remember favours. Everyone profits."
He glanced around the destroyed pavilion. Broken wood, scorch marks, and the faint smell of blood still lingered.
"But those are future discussions. Right now, priority is survival. The Burning Sky family will move soon. We need to be ready."
As if summoned by his words, distant shouts echoed through the city. Alarm bells rang out. The sound of running feet filled the streets. The unmistakable aura-pressure of multiple high-level cultivators moved with purpose, pressing down on the area like a coming storm.
A figure, Ravenna, materialised from shadow. Her weird demeanour stayed completely unshaken by the chaos. "Master. Burning Sky family forces are mobilising. I count three Mortal Core elders, twelve Heaven Core, and approximately forty Qi Refinement disciples. They’re heading this direction. Estimated arrival: six minutes."
Azrail’s eyes gleamed. "Faster than expected. Vice Master Luo must be truly enraged."
"He should be," Valencia murmured. "His daughter was erased from existence in front of witnesses. His family’s reputation is in shambles. His authority is questioned. He needs an overwhelming response to restore face."
"Then let’s give him one he’ll remember," Azrail said quietly. His power began to manifest. Subtle ripples moved through the air around him. Shadows deepened. The temperature dropped even though the night air was warm.
He turned to the Lin family parents.
"Go inside your main building. Stay away from windows. Don’t leave until I personally tell you it’s safe. What you’re about to witness is going to be violent. I’d prefer you not see the details."
Lin Hao nodded once. He took his wife’s arm and guided her toward the main building. His mind kept turning over the crystals in his pocket and the words Azrail had spoken. Their daughter was gone, their home was about to become a battlefield, and their future now rested on a deal with someone they barely understood. There was no time to argue or question further. The only choice left was to survive the next few hours.
Lin Rou walked beside him in silence. Her steps were unsteady. She kept glancing back at the pavilion where Azrail and his people stood ready. The distant shouts grew louder. The aura-pressure grew heavier. She whispered something under her breath, a quiet prayer for her daughter’s safety, then stepped through the door and closed it behind them.
Inside, the main building felt too quiet compared to the noise outside. They moved to the central hall and sat on the floor, away from the windows as instructed. Lin Hao held the two crystals tightly. They still pulsed with that strange warmth. He turned one over in his fingers, wondering when his daughter would activate hers and what he would even say when the time came.
Lin Rou leaned against him. Her breathing was still ragged. "She will come back, won’t she? the kid, I mean Lord Azrail sounded sure."
"He did," Lin Hao answered. "But years or decades is a long time. And we have to live through tonight first."
They sat in silence after that. The sounds from outside grew sharper. Commands barked in the distance. The heavy presence of approaching cultivators pressed against the walls like an invisible weight. Lin Hao closed his eyes for a moment and tried to steady his own nerves. Their small clan had never faced anything like this. Without Azrail’s protection, they would already be dead. That fact sat heavy in his chest.
He opened his eyes and looked at the closed door. Whatever was about to happen out there, it would change everything. The Lin Clan would either rise under this new alliance or be crushed before the night ended. There was no middle ground anymore.
The first clash of power echoed in the distance. The temperature inside the hall dropped sharply. Lin Rou grabbed his hand. They waited, listening, while the battle Azrail had promised began.
