Heavenly Dragon Doctor Son-in-Law-Chapter 179 - 180: The Big Shot in the River Makes a Move
With a sincere expression, Xuexue handed a small bag of white candies to Qin Long.
Qin Long’s face was filled with tenderness, and he was deeply gratified. Xuexue was innocent and carefree, genuine and true to him. She was completely without guile, always treating him with the kindness of a little sprite. For years, everyone else had laughed at him for his foolishness, but this little girl had always been good to him. She would occasionally bring him extra food and bread, which filled his heart with warmth.
Although Xuexue was only a little over six years old, she had always treated him like a real older brother.
Qin Long was one to repay kindness; he didn’t want to owe anyone, not even a child. That was just his nature.
"How have things been at elementary school lately?" he asked, gently stroking Xuexue’s hair with a concerned look. "Nobody’s been bothering you, right?"
Xuexue gently touched Qin Long’s right leg, then sensibly brought over a small stool and sat down beside him.
"They’re all really nice to me now. I have lots of good friends, and the teachers are very kind to me, too," Xuexue said, a smile playing on her lips.
"Good. If anyone ever treats you like they did last time, remember to tell big brother Long," Qin Long said, gently pinching Xuexue’s rosy, chubby cheek. "I’ll help you beat them up."
"I know, big brother Long." Xuexue grasped his hand and began telling him many stories about school, and Qin Long listened attentively, nodding with a kind expression.
Nearby, Tang Xuewu and Tang Yuehua watched them with envious looks.
"Xuexue has a natural affinity for Qin Long," Tang Yuehua sighed helplessly, a hint of jealousy in her voice.
"They certainly have a lot to talk about," Tang Xuewu added. She stood up, washed some fruit, and placed it next to Tang Yuehua.
"Xuewu, look how much Qin Long likes children. Why don’t you two... work a little harder?"
Hearing this, Tang Xuewu’s face flushed red. "We’re only engaged," she interjected. "It’s too soon for that. Besides, it’s unlikely we’ll ever be together."
She lowered her head and sighed in resignation. Although the Tang Family wasn’t actively moving against Qin Long, the unspoken message was clear. As soon as his right leg healed, they would immediately expel him from the family, and the engagement would surely be annulled. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"Sigh..." Tang Yuehua hesitated, then simply shook her head.
No matter how you looked at it, Qin Long was still a cripple. Furthermore, Wang Ming of the Jiangzhong Wang Family was relentlessly pursuing Tang Xuewu. Given the Tang Family’s character, they would definitely marry her off to Wang Ming to prevent any relationship with Qin Long. Even if Qin Long had regained his memory and was showing promising potential, the difference between him and Wang Ming was as vast as that between the clouds and the mud.
"The most important thing is that the Tang Family only cares about power and prestige, not genuine feelings," Tang Yuehua remarked, giving Qin Long a sympathetic glance.
"I understand, Aunt," Tang Xuewu replied with a helpless sigh, shaking her head. The Tang Family only cared if the man she married was ’worth it’—if he could help the family soar to new heights. If Qin Long truly possessed such power, they wouldn’t care if he only had a broken leg; even if all four of his limbs were useless, the Tang Family would be overjoyed to marry her to him.
But Qin Long didn’t have that kind of power.
Therefore, she and Qin Long were doomed to never be together.
"Xuewu, let’s not talk about this," Tang Yuehua said, cleverly changing the subject. "Did you hear about what happened in Jiangzhong last night?"
Her words instantly piqued Tang Xuewu’s curiosity.
"What happened?" she asked, looking at Tang Yuehua with a puzzled expression.
"Just yesterday, a storm swept through the underworld of Jiangzhong. My father told me today that many of the local powers were annexed overnight. Those who resisted were all eliminated. Even the businesses of some major figures were affected." Tang Yuehua’s face was etched with shock as she spoke. Tang Xiaohu had reported this to the family’s old master, and she had only overheard it by chance.
"Such a major upheaval, and the authorities aren’t doing anything?" Tang Xuewu was stunned and instinctively stole a glance at Qin Long, but she quickly dismissed the thought.
"Exactly! Normally, the authorities would have stepped in by now! That just proves how unusual this situation is! Think about it, even they haven’t made a move. They must know what’s going on, which means they don’t dare to intervene!" Tang Yuehua continued, her own expression baffled. "The rumor is that the mastermind has an incredibly powerful identity, someone who could make the entire underworld tremble with a single word."
"Even the authorities are turning a blind eye! This person’s power must be terrifying," Tang Xuewu murmured, truly taken aback by the situation.
"They say someone offended this big shot," Tang Yuehua said, picking up a banana and sighing. "So, in a fit of rage, he decided to clean up the entire underworld of Jiangzhong."
"This person’s power is definitely on another level. Who on earth would be foolish enough to provoke such a figure?" Tang Xuewu’s beautiful eyes were filled with confusion.
"Do you remember that ’queen,’ Han Bing? Rumor has it her foster father, Han Tao, was the one who angered the big shot. I think Han Tao is as good as dead now," Tang Yuehua said, tossing aside the banana peel with a resigned air.
"Han Tao?"
Tang Xuewu felt like she had heard that name somewhere before. She thought for a moment, then suddenly stood up, her beautiful eyes fixed on Qin Long, who was still playing with Xuexue.
She remembered the burly men who had come to cause trouble yesterday. After Qin Long defeated them, they had mentioned Han Tao! He was the one who sent them to deal with Qin Long. After that, a storm erupted in the Jiangzhong underworld, and a powerful figure made a move. Could Qin Long be behind all of this? But after a moment of calm reflection, she dismissed the idea. After all, he had promised her he wouldn’t... But then again, he had just made those men so utterly terrified... Am I just being paranoid? Or is it a coincidence? How else could he possibly know about these things?
As she pondered this, Tang Xuewu’s pretty face filled with doubt as she watched Qin Long. But he was absorbed in a little game with Xuexue, completely oblivious to her thoughts.
Looking at his simple, honest smile, Tang Xuewu found it hard to believe he could be the mastermind behind this incident.
Qin Long was just a cripple who’d been foolish for three years, a man who relied on a crutch and was only now showing signs of recovery. He has shown some potential recently, and with hard work, he’ll surely make something of himself in the future. But he is absolutely not the same as a powerhouse who can single-handedly stir up such a storm.
"Xuewu, why do you look so pale?" Tang Yuehua asked with concern, noticing her niece’s strange expression.
"It’s nothing, Aunt..." Tang Xuewu waved her hand and forced a gentle smile.
"Why did you look like that when you heard Han Tao’s name? Don’t tell me you’ve met him?" Tang Yuehua asked, her face full of confusion.
"How could I have met him?" Tang Xuewu replied quickly, waving her hand dismissively.
"As long as you haven’t, I’m relieved." Tang Yuehua breathed a sigh of relief. "Right now, it’s best to ignore everything related to Han Tao. It seems the big shot won’t let him off easily. After all, this is someone even the authorities don’t dare to offend!"
