Heavenly Blessed Baby: Fleeing Famine, Busy to Prosper!-Chapter 177: Loving Your Wife Isn’t Shameful
Because she was too shocked, Yi Meng instinctively tightened her arms, making Qi Manman uncomfortable and squirm: "Mom, uncomfortable, uncomfortable."
Mrs. Qi was already somewhat aware, so her level of shock was lighter than Yi Meng’s.
Seeing the little girl uncomfortable, she hurriedly went forward to rescue her, but her steps were a bit unsteady, and after taking the child, she quickly placed her on the kang lest she accidentally drop her.
"Mom..."
Yi Meng looked at her mother-in-law and swallowed with some difficulty.
The news was too explosive; she couldn’t handle it!
Mrs. Qi sat on the kang, trying to steady herself.
A mere four-year-old little girl, suddenly her age was larger than their whole family combined.
The shock was so intense that her old bones couldn’t digest it all at once.
The room fell into an eerie silence.
Qi Zheng, who had just returned from a walk outside, felt the atmosphere in the backyard was off as soon as he entered. The whole family was standing under their window outside, and he immediately asked, "What are you all doing?"
The sudden voice startled everyone.
"Dad, Manbao just started crying; we don’t know what happened, so we came to have a look."
Wang Daya replied.
Qi Zheng got anxious upon hearing this and squeezed through the crowd to rush into the house.
Who would have thought that upon entering, he’d see his wife and the fourth daughter-in-law sitting by the kang, both dumbfoundedly staring at Qi Manman counting her fingers on the kang.
"What’s going on? Why is Manbao crying?"
Qi Zheng said, reaching out to Qi Manman.
Qi Manman couldn’t figure out what she did wrong, but neither Grandma nor Mom would hold her, and she was feeling aggrieved!
If not for seeing many people standing outside the window, she would have cried long ago.
Now seeing Grandpa come in to hold her, the little girl immediately crawled to the kang edge, leapt into Qi Zheng’s arms, and called out in a crying voice, "Grandpa."
"Oh dear, Grandpa’s sweet baby, what’s wrong?"
Qi Zheng lovingly comforted the little girl in his arms.
Qi Manman shook her head, "Manbao counted wrong; Manbao is four years old this year, five after New Year."
"What’s this about?"
Qi Zheng was completely puzzled.
Just from a counting error, how did the old lady and the fourth daughter-in-law end up looking so lost?
He couldn’t believe it!
"It’s nothing."
Mrs. Qi regained her senses, took a breath, and said to Yi Meng: "Fourth daughter-in-law, let’s go quickly make dinner, don’t delay the evening’s events."
"Oh."
Yi Meng stood up promptly and seeing Grandma shaking, she quickly reached out to support her.
Looking at the posture of his wife and mother, Qi Zheng frowned; something major surely happened.
But since the old lady wasn’t saying, he decided not to ask now and wait until the evening.
Mrs. Qi left the room and saw everyone gathered outside. She glanced over but didn’t say anything and headed directly to the kitchen of the side room.
Today they needed to steam buns and such, which required constant heat. If it was all heated in the main room kitchen, the kang would be unbearably hot.
So everyone headed straight to the kitchen in the unassigned side room.
Wang Daya and a few others exchanged puzzled looks.
Normally, if they gathered without working, they’d get caught by their mother-in-law and inevitably receive a lesson, but today she didn’t say a word.
Unusual!
Highly unusual!
"Let’s go, we better hurry and work."
The fifth daughter-in-law Ai Zhaodi called out, and the other sisters-in-law followed quickly.
The kitchen was bustling as ever, but anyone could see that Mrs. Qi and Yi Meng were not in the right state.
If no one else was watching, those two might even let the water in the pot boil dry.
The family had bought quite a lot of rice and especially flour today.
Though there was enough grain in the home, rationing could be sufficient.
But Qi Ercai insisted on sending gifts to city gate soldiers, so the family purposely bought a lot of fine flour.
Steamed buns, steamed bean paste buns, and meat-stuffed buns with fish, pork, and vegetarian filling.
Besides those going out tonight and for the family to eat, the rest were steamed and left outside to freeze.
When eaten, they are conveniently reheated.
By the time Qi Quanjin and his group returned, several tables were already set in the courtyard, with rows of bright white steamed buns and dumplings catching the eyes.
"So fragrant!"
Qi Quanli couldn’t help but inhale deeply upon entering the backyard.
The air was saturated with the scent of fresh steamed buns, making these people who had been chilled outside for half the day crave them incredibly.
Yi Meng had composed herself by now, though her face still appeared pale. Seeing everyone return, she forced a smile and said: "Brother Ercai, Brother Jin, this sack of buns just came out of the pot and is still hot, hurry and deliver them!"
"Okay!"
Qi Ercai didn’t think too much, took the sack, and prepared to leave.
However, Qi Quanjin keenly noted his wife’s oddity: "Wife, what’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
With those words, everyone in the yard turned to look at Yi Meng.
Yi Meng shook her head: "It’s nothing, maybe just tired. You guys go deliver it, I’ll rest in the room for a while."
"Then you should get inside!"
Qi Quanjin didn’t doubt, simply supporting his wife into the room.
The others exchanged questionable glances, momentarily unsure of how to react.
It was Qi Quanli who chuckled: "Big brother, second brother, third brother, fifth brother, shouldn’t you hurry and help the sisters-in-law inside? Steaming so many buns must have worn them out."
Steaming buns is hard work, kneading the dough is exhausting.
The sisters-in-law turned red at Qi Quanli’s words, glaring back.
Qi Quanli chuckled, unfazed, even urging the brothers to act quickly.
"Ahem, well, help take them inside!"
Qi Ercai awkwardly cleared his throat, then directly went to pull his wife Qu Laodi’s arm, sack in hand.
Ignoring Qu Laodi’s protest, he dragged her into their room.
The other three brothers blushed too, but each went to their own wife.
The previously bustling yard fell silent, leaving Qi Quanli chuckling to himself as he slipped into the kitchen.
Nothing smelled better than good food!
With no one else in the kitchen, he took the chance to sample some buns!
Qi Quanjin saw Yi Meng settle down before leaving the room, only to find the courtyard empty.
"Second brother, shall we?"
Qi Quanjin called out.
Qi Ercai responded, soon appearing with the sack in hand.
The brothers shared a knowing smile, not mocking each other.
In the Qi Family, taking care of wives was certainly no shameful act.
