Heaven-Sent Farm Girl Builds Her Fortune And Captures His Heart-Chapter 690 - 689: Le Zhao Cried
After Duan Yunfei greeted City Lord Luo and Luo Tianhao, he led Shen Qinglan and Le Zhao out of the Situ Mansion.
The three of them found a small tavern, ordered some side dishes, and began drinking together.
Seeing Le Zhao downing one glass after another, both Duan Yunfei and Shen Qinglan frowned slightly.
Duan Yunfei sighed lightly, "Take it easy. I don’t want to end up carrying you back."
"Didn’t you just say you’d accompany me to the end? What?" Le Zhao raised an eyebrow, "Having second thoughts?"
"I didn’t say I’d back out, but there’s no need for you to drink so fast," Duan Yunfei said helplessly, pointing at the empty jars on the table, "Look, it’s only been a short while."
Le Zhao glanced over and chuckled lightly, "Not much at all. Just three jars for the three of us." 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
"Enough!" Duan Yunfei replied with a wry smile, "If this makes you feel better, I’ll drink with you."
As he spoke, he called for the attendant to bring more wine. Watching the ten jars lined up on the table, Le Zhao smiled, but Shen Qinglan instantly went silent.
"Come, Miss Shen, here’s to ’The road is long and winding, but if you keep going, you’ll get there’," Le Zhao raised his cup towards her.
Shen Qinglan smiled bitterly, nodded, and raised her cup to drink with him.
"Drink less," Duan Yunfei said in a low voice, "Otherwise, if you get drunk too, I’ll have to handle both of you."
Shen Qinglan rolled her eyes at him, "Last time was an accident. This amount can’t get me drunk."
Duan Yunfei chuckled softly and continued drinking with Le Zhao.
By the time they reached the fifth jar, a slightly tipsy Le Zhao suddenly frowned, "Just drinking like this is really boring!"
Duan Yunfei was taken aback, raising an eyebrow, "What do you propose then?"
"Let’s play dice," Le Zhao propped his chin up, "The loser drinks a whole jar, what do you think?"
Duan Yunfei sneered, speaking disdainfully, "You’re just tying a yoke around your own neck?"
"How dull!" Le Zhao pouted, "Forget it, no dice games. I can’t win against you anyway. Let’s just drink."
He raised his cup and drank it all, resting his chin on his hand as he looked at Duan Yunfei, "Do you know what the luckiest thing in my life has been?"
Duan Yunfei set his cup down on the table, looking at him without saying a word.
Le Zhao lowered his gaze and smiled slightly, "The luckiest thing in my life is knowing you and Old Yan, and meeting A-Ying, of course!"
He looked at Shen Qinglan smiling, "And Miss Shen."
Shen Qinglan pursed her lips into a smile but did not respond.
"Alright," Duan Yunfei said, feigning disdain, "No need for sentimental talk."
Le Zhao smiled and nodded, after a while, he sighed lightly, "He said I’ve brought disgrace to the Le Family."
Who this "he" was didn’t need to be explicitly stated; Shen Qinglan and Duan Yunfei both knew.
Le Zhao sniffed, tears welling up in his eyes, "He’s always listened to the old lady. Whatever she asks, he does. It was like that before. The old lady didn’t like my mother, so he kept his distance until she passed, and then he put on a show of checking once."
Duan Yunfei handed him a handkerchief, and he took it to wipe his face carelessly, then continued, "He never considered my feelings or my brother’s. He once dumped us at the Shangguan House, but after hearing from Uncle that my brother had talent for business, he brought us back."
"In his heart, besides wealth, there’s only the old lady’s words. In his eyes, we’re worth nothing," he wiped his tears and added, "Before, he wanted me to marry my cousin, but then she got married. Now he says he’s found me a bride and insists I return to the Capital to marry the girl from that family. If I don’t return, it will be as if he has no son."
Duan Yunfei frowned, not expecting that Le Zhao’s father would say such things when telling him to go back, no wonder Le Zhao would feel so upset.
Though harsh words had been spoken in the past, Le Zhao had never held such a grudge before; it seemed today his father’s words really hit a nerve.
