Squeak Squeak Squeak

I watched the sunlight fade as the ocean of rats swallowed me alive.

Living rats rubbed against my skin, constantly trying to scratch and bite me.

The purpose of their lives was to kill me.

Even so...

Their fur was soft and warm.

I laughed.

"These must be third-generation rats, children of the Rat King’s children. Essentially, they’re Wild beasts—slightly stronger than ordinary rats."

I watched closely as, despite their constant attempts to nip at me, the simple reinforcement of Primordial Force was enough to block their attacks without me taking any damage.

Even so, nothing stopped them from trying.

Sigh.

"Let’s start slowly," I thought. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

Suddenly, my eyes shone as I prepared my first attack.

SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK

The rats around me screamed in despair as my glow pierced through their ocean.

"Here it comes."

My fists slowly rose before firing off in an explosive motion.

BANG BANG BANG BOOOOM

Like a machine gun, I struck hundreds of times in a single instant. Each blow was weak on its own, but together they created an explosion and an updraft.

SQUEAK!!!!

The rats screamed as they fell like rain beneath the Shattered Sky.

"Next time, think twice before choosing to fight a feline."

I sighed.

Taking advantage of the opening in the ocean, I quickly rose to the surface and watched the surrounding scenery transform.

The white ocean stretched as far as the eye could see, with only a few trees rising above the sea of rats.

The ground was rats—nothing but rats.

SQUEAK!!!

Rats leapt from the ocean like fish to attack me, only to be cut down by my palm, sharp as a blade.

WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH

My body danced above the white ocean, killing hundreds of rats at every moment.

WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH

I laughed in delight, continuously slicing through rat after rat.

"The stage is already set! But what about the actors—are they still going to take long? Tell me, Rat King?" I shouted, drawing his attention at last.

"Hahaha! No, no, it won’t take long!"

An insane laugh echoed throughout the battlefield as, ahead of me, rats fused together more and more, forming the face of a gigantic rat the size of a huge building, with tusks just as massive.

"I’m glad you’re eager to die, but I wonder which way you prefer? Burned? Frozen? Crushed?Poisoned?"

He kept laughing, his eyes beginning to glow with aura.

"Here it comes," I said, bracing myself.

"Aura!" he shouted, and immediately a myriad of auras locked onto me.

WOOOSH

I merely snorted, forming an aura shield as usual.

However, something strange happened.

"But what? I blocked it!"

My shield was firm and strong, yet my body began to weaken.

My eyes widened in shock, and a Wild rat immediately took advantage of the opening and slashed my cheek.

Red blood trickled down.

BOOM

Scared, I blew the rat apart in a single motion.

"What did you do?!" I shouted, my emotions flaring.

"Hahaha! You shouldn’t have given me territorial advantage. That was your mistake!" he shouted back.

Suddenly, the rats beneath me grew more vigorous, while the Rat King himself seemed to explode with power.

"Tsk!" I clicked my tongue in irritation.

All the rats were strengthened, and I was weakened.

Suddenly, the ground beneath me trembled as several more heads rose from the ocean.

Fire, Lightning, and Ice controlled three gigantic heads above the sea, and right in front of them, Blood emerged.

Behind them, hundreds of massive white heads rose while the King merely laughed behind them all.

I snorted.

BOOOOM

My feet exploded with power as I charged toward Blood, the difference in size making me look like an ant facing a giant.

WOOSH

The bloody mist before me churned, turning liquid, then condensing into a crystal barrier.

BANG BANG BANG

My punches fired like machine guns, trying to penetrate the barrier.

Then, from my right, the fire rat channeled flames into its mouth before blasting them at me.

Flames engulfed me completely in midair.

"So bold!" I shouted through clenched teeth. "I’m a damn fire tiger!"

The flames were ineffective.

I braced myself against the blood barrier and pushed with all my strength.

BOOOOM

My body burst through the flames and across the battlefield, quickly reaching the fire rat’s forehead. My feet slammed into it, making its head explode into thousands of smaller rats.

Even so, beneath me, the formation immediately tried to rebuild, since the Fire Myriad Rat was still alive.

As such, I quickly channeled flames into my fists.

"This is real firepower!" I shouted before letting my fists fall like comets.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

SQUEAK!!!

The fire rat screamed along with its clones, their bodies completely engulfed in flames.

WOOOSH

Suddenly, an icy mist surged forward saving the fire rats as the ice rat and the lightning rat advanced together.

BZZ BZZ BZZ

Lightning upon lightning gathered before firing in rapid succession.

At the same time, the ice rat did the same, creating sharp ice crystals.

Lightning and ice closed in on me from both sides.

BANG BANG BANG

Hundreds of projectiles tried to intercept me in midair.

"Tsk!"

I clicked my tongue and kicked the air, using wind control to move swiftly through the sky above.

However, suddenly the bloody mist around me grew denser and denser, turning liquid and then solid.

"SHIT!" I roared as my body was trapped in blood amber. Lightning and piercing ice on the verge of collision.

BOOOOM

I was struck without being able to react, my body flung away amid a cloud of black smoke.

My consciousness wavered, but I clenched my teeth and recovered just in time to see a deluge of attacks falling upon me.

Dozens of massive white paws slammed down on me. Immediately, I channeled flames and wind into my fist, preparing a powerful punch.

BOOOOM

The sky cleared.

Even so, before I could celebrate, the elemental rats surrounded me once more.

WOOOSH WOOOSH

A freezing mist permeated the battlefield, and together with the bloody mist, it obscured my vision.

The biting cold blurred my sight and made my teeth chatter.

Blood crystallized around me.

Breathing became difficult. My vision darkened more and more. My body ached.

Lightning and flames rained down on me.

BANG BANG BANG

My eyes rolled back in their sockets, my body twitching helplessly.

BANG BANG BANG

Then dozens of ice crystals rained down, piercing me, and the bloody mist seeped into those wounds.

The poison intensified inside my body.

"ARGH!" I clenched my teeth before doubling over and vomiting blood.

My eyes turned red, my veins bulging more and more.

Dozens of small rats rose from the ocean and bit and scratched me as the sea slowly began to swallow me again.

Elemental rats emerged from the ocean, firing lightning and ice, creating more and more holes in me.

"This is your end," the Rat King said cheerfully. "But you fought well..."

"It just wasn’t enough!" he laughed.

"You should have known before facing me— in this world, being good isn’t enough! Only the best can survive!"

"Good is not enough. Only perfection is sufficient!"

He kept laughing as my body was completely engulfed by the endless waves of rats.

My breathing was shallow and my eyes were tired.

But once more, I looked up at the sky of Shattered Sky, its beautiful yet degenerate nature touching me deeply.

"I wonder what you taste like," the Rat King continued speaking to me, but this time the line wasn’t his.

"Do you think it tastes good?" I said again, gazing at the blood-red sky.
