Heart Over Sword-Chapter 243: To Heal Another.. (1)
Chapter 243: To Heal Another.. (1)
Without asking, Evanna knew there would be a good reason behind Arawn’s lies. Most likely to protect her. Balin had yet to see her with her hood pulled down, so he believed her to be an elf.
She did not wait to listen to the rest of their conversation, though. Ronan needed treatment. He needed at least two days’ rest. Even then, would he be strong enough to continue?
Evanna didn’t want to put pressure on her friend to continue. But she couldn’t let him stay in these lands by himself.
"*You worry too much,*" Garrett said, watching her from the window he stood in front of, arms crossed, looking stern. "*You can heal him, your highness.*"
Evanna frowned at that as she approached Ronan’s side. "*I do not know-*"
"Do not play dumb. It does not suit you," Garrett’s tone and words caused Ger and Axel to glance between them warily.
"What is going on?" Ger stepped away from Ronan’s bedside whilst Axel had already started tending to the wound on his neck, pouring alcohol from his flask onto the area to clean it.
Ronan jolted, eyes snapping open, and he hissed from the pain, but Axel held his chest down. "Can’t be helped, lad," he muttered grimly.
Though Evanna did wonder about that. Axel was most likely used to not carrying anything else with him to help with such wounds. Now they were in this inn, they could have used fresh warm, soapy water to clean Ronan’s wound. It did not matter now. It was already done.
Garrett glanced at Evanna, "*I will not reveal what is rightfully yours. It is your choice if you wish to tell those here.*"
"Not in Muranthian!" Ger snapped, his tone harsher than Evanna had heard it before. He was worried about Ronan. That much was clear.
"It is not my secret to tell," Garrett said, his eyes falling on Ronan.
Evanna walked around the spacious room, taking in its humble yet neat décor and furniture. It kept to light wooden colouring, and the hearth was large and already burning logs to keep the room warm. The bay windows revealed the rest of the town, the grounds either frozen or with some type of mushy mud where people had been walking.
They were mostly sheltered from the blizzard, though, and only a little snow fell onto the ground. Whatever they used, it kept the snow from settling, unlike outside of the wall. The town was quaint, and further along the housing, Evanna realised the wall guarded the rest of Lyvaria. This was not the only town.
The twinkling of some lights in the distance showed others. Glancing back at the room, she sighed as her attention landed on Garrett and Ger, who were waiting on her response.
"I am not playing at anything," Evanna finally responded; her words were careful, especially with Ger, who seemed a little bit on edge. It was understandable, and she knew he didn’t want to be close to her or see her and Arawn together. Right now, he couldn’t handle it.
Evanna could stay away from Arawn when Ger was around, but it still hurt her to know he couldn’t bare to look at her yet.
"I am unsure if I CAN heal others," Evanna finished. She didn’t mind the group knowing, even Fiza though she suspected the fae already knew. She was always so observant of everyone.
A spymaster had to be; otherwise, she wouldn’t be very good at her job. It was a little frightening, really. Fiza probably knew more about them than they did themselves.
"Heal?!" Ger and Axel exclaimed at the same time, looking at the princess.
There was so much more to Evanna than any of them realised that included the princess. Healing another person didn’t even occur to Ger; he didn’t know much about these elven gifts anyway. But if Evanna could heal another, it would be really beneficial on this journey.
Especially now that they were deep in the north.
Evanna nodded just as Arawn stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. "*You cannot heal him from your being. You need a plant to take life force away from,*" he instructed.
"What did he say?" Ger asked, glaring at Arawn. "We can’t all understand."
"It is nothing you need to understand. I am advising Evanna about her gift. Something you know nothing of," Arawn informed him, his voice icy.
Evanna grimaced at his tone and watched Ger’s expression grow angrier. But he did not act on it. Ger felt frustrated that he didn’t know this stuff, and he felt frustrated that it was things like this that caused a wedge between him and Evanna.
Ger would never understand this side of her. As much as he didn’t care what she was, he couldn’t help her. He didn’t have such vast knowledge.
Arawn wasn’t only ’pretty’, and at a higher status than Ger, but he really could help Evanna.
"Ger.." Evanna stepped towards him, pausing when his burning gaze fell on her. She could see the frustration building behind those deep blue eyes. Arawn was not helping with the situation. She needed to speak to him once Ger was not around.
Evanna didn’t want to hurt him more than he already was. Arawn was blunt and sometimes steely with his words, but he didn’t need to act that way towards Ger.
"Could you please check the other rooms for some plants and bring them in here?" She asked quietly.
Ger didn’t ask further about it. He didn’t even nod in response. Instead, he brushed past her and barged open the door with such force it swung back from the wall and shut behind him with a slight bang.
"Arawn..." Evanna drawled, her voice chastising as she walked towards him. "*Please be nicer to him.*"
Arawn closed the last of the distance between them and reached for Evanna’s hands, staring down at her intently. "That will make him feel worse. *I have no intention of changing my behaviour because of him. He wants you, and I don’t like it. You are giving him more attention than before now.*"
Evanna’s brows rose at that. She didn’t expect to see this jealous side of Arawn. He almost seemed to pout at that.
A smile twitched on her lips, and she squeezed his hands before caressing the side of his jaw. "*Do not pout. It makes you look cute.*"
Garrett’s mouth dropped open at Evanna’s comment. "*My.. we cannot have that..*" Arawn purred, bringing her knuckles to his lips as he gazed at her. "*You wouldn’t know what to do with yourself.*"
Axel cleared his throat with a loud cough. "Ahem! I don’t know what’s being said, but there are other people here and a patient in dire need of help."
