Healing System-Chapter 242 The Second Part of the Tournament (2)
"Why are we running?" Hu Rong questioned as they zipped past the tunnels at a rapid pace.
Meanwhile, Michael merely shrugged. "For the experience, I guess? Do you want to fight that thing?"
"No... Master Mujin, let's just continu—" Hu Rong's voice was soon interrupted when, all of a sudden, one of the tunnels they were heading toward collapsed.
"Or not." Michael chuckled, before turning his gaze onto the approaching worm.
'It's funny how such a big thing is merely a Tier 3 monster.'
With those thoughts, Michael prepared to kill it, but before he could do so, the worm vanished from sight, killing a few extra worms in the process.
And what managed to surprise him the most was the fact that it grew with each kill, and its mana increased in proportion as well.
[An evolving worm monster. It doesn't look like they fixed this match after all. Acquiring something that could eventually evolve into one of those pesky snakes is practically impossible.] The system stated, earning a nod from Michael in response.
'I can tell, but it's still not an overwhelming amount of strength increase, so it's very likely it's just some trash monster.'
[Be that as it may, if given enough time, it could even kill you.]
'Well...' Michael spotted its massive body and immediately sent out hundreds of swords of light, piercing the colossal worm's body.
However, that seemed to have some adverse effects, as instead of killing it, the thing absorbed the swords of light, growing stronger.
The process was much, much more effective than when it ate the smaller worms.
Therefore, Michael found himself a new potential pet.
[Unbelievable...] The system voiced out with disbelief.
'You said it can evolve into an actual snake, so why not?' he answered with a chuckle.
Though it seemed like he had to cut his fun short, as not too far away, there was another group, which he immediately decided to reduce their numbers by one.
But as he was about to do so, he had a thought.
'Why don't I just get rid of them completely? The next tournaments would finish faster, and I can get all my boons much quicker too.'
The Plum Blossom sect was the worst of them all anyway, so it would not set him back much.
[Don't.] The system interjected. [If you kill everyone, then the tournament could be canceled, and you would need to wait until next year. At the same time, the bets would be called off too.]
'Oh shit. Then I'll just stick to finding the exit. The Plum Blossom sect guys look like they know what they are doing.' Michael replied and focused on them.
With that, he slowly made his way toward them, leading his group through the tunnels and avoiding the evolving worm monster.
However, there was a concern in the air, and one Michael was unsure of how to avoid.
'They are dying.' He glanced to his left, and soon, an Azure Dragon sect disciple died, killed by the worm whose reach seemed to extend even over there.
And soon, the Plum Blossom sect had lost a member as well.
'Well shit.' Michael decided to take it into his own hands, focusing on each of their mana signatures and using Aegis of Light, enveloping them in a shield, which by now could likely absorb most damage up to Tier 5.
But even then, if the person got swallowed whole by the worm, his shields wouldn't do much.
Nonetheless, he kept moving, while at the same time, directing each sect to group up in a single location.
Since if he was going to help them, he might as well get them all together.
In the end, his sect would be the first to finish, after all.
However, as those thoughts floated in his mind, the massive evolving worm froze before sinking back into the ground.
But Michael spotted something interesting.
After killing and absorbing two disciples, it managed to evolve into a Tier 4 monster.
And from the looks of things, it also seemed like it had gotten smaller, instead of bigger.
'That doesn't make much sense... But it's fine, means I can carry it around eventually.' Michael thought, nodding to himself.
[Seriously... Just give up on that idea. Why would you even want a disgusting dirt worm as a pet? Just get a cat or something. There are plenty of those in this Murim world.] The system couldn't help but exclaim with slight frustration.
'If you can find an evolving cat for me, I'll feed the evolving worm to it. Deal?' Stay tuned for updates on novelbuddy
[...Keep your damn worm.]
'Pfft, yeah, I can use him as a fishing magnet too, would tick off one of the boxes you told me about.' He joked around, until finally, the ground shook.
And with that, the worm once again emerged, its size practically 1/10 of what it had been a few moments ago.
Even then, it was more than big enough to swallow a person whole.
Not that Michael would allow that to happen, though.
"Hu Rong, I want you to go that way." Michael pointed with his golden sword of light, halting.
"Master Mujin? Why? That looks like the exit... Do you want us to win already?" Hu Rong questioned with a bit of hesitance.
But Michael merely shook his head. "That's not an exit, more like a safe room of sorts."
'One that I made on the way here.'
"Oh! Of course! We will recoup our strength then, Master Mujin. Thank you for your generosity!" Hu Rong performed a deep bow and headed inside the makeshift dirt room that was lit up by countless miniature orbs of light he had formed prior.
He would let his group rest, while at the same time, he went pet hunting.
And as the last of Michael's team went inside, he closed the room up, making a small door of light, while also making several golden domes around the room just to be safe.
'Alright, system, how do I tame a worm?' he questioned, while swiftly making his way over to the evolving worm who had been terrorizing the other teams.
[I am not a zoologist or something, just feed it your mana until it's full, that's what I would do if I ever decided to try taming a stupid and ugly worm.]
'It's not that ugly... only a little.' Michael defended his soon-to-be pet, and arrived in front of the Azure Dragon sect, who were currently battling against it.
Of course, because of Michael's shields, the fight was pretty unfair, making even the disciples confused about how they were holding up so well.
However, as they caught sight of him, they directed their attention toward him, flashing rude gestures and shouting.
"Elder Chu Dong sends his regards!"
With those words, a sword was launched right at him.
Surprisingly, the velocity was much faster than he expected from someone who appeared to be only Tier 2.
'A skill, perhaps? I wonder when I'll get new skills already.'
[You'll get new skills when you actually do something different. Mister Sword of Light this, Sword of Light that.] The system snickered at his misfortunes.
'Yeah, I'll show you something different.' Michael replied arrogantly, and soon, summoned up an umbrella made completely out of light.
Yet it was not made to protect him from the rain; instead, its purpose was to act as a mirror.
Because...
"Flashbang of Light!"
As Michael's words fell, the umbrella expanded, and immediately, the entire room was covered in light, which even managed to blind those who had their eyes closed.
At the same time, even the worm was not left unaffected, as it shriveled down and burrowed, making its way toward a nearby team.
[Skill generated! Flashbang of are you an idiot? Do you seriously think that is worthy enough to be recognized by the system as a ski—]
[New Skill Generated]
Flashbang of Light [Beginner] [Active]
—Create an umbrella of light, and with the switch of a button, blind all foes in a 100-meter radius. The blinding effect scales from the user's Mana Purity, increasing the effect drastically.
—Cost: <1% MP
'Hahaha? What do you know.' Michael let out a laugh, not expecting this outcome either.
He did this on a whim, and yet, he got a skill which he could sacrifice.
But if it was this simple to get a skill, even if it previously wasn't, then that means something had changed without him knowing.

And odds were, the system didn't know either.
His theory was proven correct as its frustrated voice rang out. [Are you kidding me? Some bullshit party trick gets recognized as a skill? You might as well make a balloon animal too. Call it the balloon of light.]
'Sounds to me like you are a bit jealous.' Michael replied with a smirk, before injecting a bit of his mana into the halo. 'But since I am a nice guy, here you go.'
Turning his gaze toward the people still wriggling on the ground, practically clawing their eyes out, he was left a bit shocked.
'Is the Flashbang of Light that overpowered?'
