He who Bends Time-Chapter 55 - superiority of time
Chapter 55: Chapter 55 - superiority of time
Eyes closed, Marian froze in place—not just because of the pressure she felt in her body from the presence of the beast, but more than that, from the feeling of inevitable death approaching her.
But at that moment, there was also a spark of courage that refused to accept death without a fight. And just by holding onto that courage, she managed to open her eyes to face her end.
The fearsome mouth of the Ten-Second Death Spider, with its massive, gigantic fangs, was right in front of her—like the scythe of the grim reaper.
At the tip of those fangs was the beast’s signature venom—just a drop could kill anyone in ten seconds. And now, after its advancement into the awakened stage, she was sure even that ability had grown deadlier.
The Ten-Second Death Spider was truly a rare and extremely dangerous beast, and in a way, Marian thought meeting her end at the hands of such a monster wasn’t the worst way to go. It was certainly better than being killed by someone weaker or insignificant—especially when the beast was an awakened-level creature.
Hmm...
A silent moment passed for Marian. The beast’s wide-open jaws and venomous fangs were still right in front of her—yet it wasn’t moving. It was almost as if time itself had frozen in place.
She quickly turned to Auran—the only person she could think of who might be responsible for this. And as she looked, she saw Auran calmly advancing toward her.
Once he was close enough, he grabbed the blood spear from her hand. After a few moments of effort, he climbed up onto the spider’s massive body. Finding the weak spot near its brain, he took his time to aim.
Chuzz!
Green fluid oozed out as the spear pierced deep into the beast’s head, puncturing its brain.
Thud!
The monster collapsed to the ground without so much as a final scream—no resistance, no last defense. As if frozen in time, it had no awareness of its own death until it had already passed.
Phew!
Auran finally took a breath after jumping down from the body of the spider. The entire time he had been standing on top of the beast, he had held his breath because of the poison that had spread from its body. However, even though he held his breath, the poison still showed some effect on his body. Fortunately, the poison released into the air from the spider wasn’t the Ten-Second Death Venom. Instead, it was a minor toxin that caused weakness and nausea in those exposed to it.
"What the hell was that..." said Marian, expressing what she truly felt in that moment.
"The superiority of time magic—compared to all others," Auran replied casually, walking past her in a slightly flexing way.
"Time magic... it really is more powerful than people thought," Marian muttered, gazing at the dead body of the Ten-Second Death Spider. She wasn’t alone—Henry was also staring at the beast, dumbfounded, along with Octo and Nimuk.
"I thought I was really going to die," muttered Octo.
"By the way, what happened to the guy you came to catch?" It was then, with Nimuk’s words, that Marian remembered Nick. But when she looked at the spot she had last seen him, he had disappeared.
"What the hell? Where could he have gone? There’s literally nothing but walls on that side, and with my blood wall, he shouldn’t have been able to escape anywhere!" she exclaimed. After her outburst, everyone’s attention instinctively shifted to the spider’s body on the floor.
"Could the beast have eaten him?" Henry muttered.
"Impossible. He’s a tamer, and this was his tamed beast. Unless it was some special case, there’s no way a tamed beast would eat its master."
"Getting awakened is a special occasion. Not just any beast can awaken just because it wants to," said Auran, crushing the faint hope Marian had held in her heart.
"No way. If he’s dead, then... dammit, how the hell am I going to get all my stuff back legally?" Frustrated, Marian slammed her fist into the wall.
"Aww!"
But a sudden voice came from the spot where she had slammed. It caught everyone’s attention. In their collective shock, the place Marian had hit began to shift—and like a falling painting, the wall crumbled down, revealing Nick, who had been hiding behind it.
The force of Marian’s strike had slammed into his rib cage, making him cry out in pain.
"come here, you bastard!" Marian wouldn’t let the man hide again and quickly grabbed him as soon as she could.
"What’s that?" asked Octo at that moment, pointing at the wall that had just fallen. Actually, it wasn’t the true wall—it was like a veil that Nick had been holding in front of him, one that resembled the exact appearance of the real wall behind him. He had been hiding between the true wall and the fake one.
"It seems to be another beast—one that can perfectly camouflage into its surroundings," said Auran after a brief observation. The creature looked like a solidifying liquid that slid through the ground toward Nick. It had an incredible body capable of stretching to great lengths, creating a wide surface area for its camouflage ability to take effect.
"It has an amazing ability, but it’s a shame that it seems to possess low intelligence. If not, I could have made it my pet," sighed Auran in regret. Although the creature slid toward Nick, he was already caught in Marian’s grip, and unable to get to him, the creature stayed flat on the ground without motion.
Thud!
"Aww!"
Marian struck Nick again, and he cried out in pain.
"Bastard! You must have spent quite a bit of money to buy these beasts, right? Did all that come from what you stole from me? Spit it out—what did you do with the money you got from my assets?
And don’t even think about denying it. I got all the information I needed from your own subordinates before coming here,"she said fiercely.
"Since it seems her problem is taken care of, let’s go find somewhere to rest. And I refuse to rest anywhere other than the mansion in the Blessing Crystal," said Auran as he stepped out.
