Chapter 585: Chapter 585. First match

The matches began.

At this moment, Kailen was still observing the matches.

He had yet to be called or matched up with anyone.

"This is just like the competitions of the Dao Enlightenment Academy," Kailen said.

The competitions were very brutal.

During one of the combat duels especially, two participants had previous vendetta with the other.

Turns out they were both disciples from a smaller sect in the Eldorath Empire.

One overpowered the other eventually, gauged the fellow’s eyes out before they killed them.

People did not hesitate to kill. Although it was not by force to kill an opponent to win, killing was the norm.

The secondary Carrier battles, for instance, reminded Kailen of the one in the Dao Enlightenment Academy.

Spiritual power attacks, poison attacks between black flask alchemists, amongst others.

Some used their wills to manifest their laws, which were now an extension of themselves at the universe level, to attack one another.

In one runesmith competition, for instance, an opponent was intercepted by an illusion rune. He could not even figure out where he was at the moment.

To the audience, he was just pacing around doing nothing. But to him, he was inscribing runes on an artifact.

By the time his opponent had completed their task, they had done nothing, still gallivanting aimlessly under the influence of the illusion in the arena.

The other opponent won.

The loser, snapping out of the illusion, in maddened rage, killed the other fellow with a law attack in a fit of anger.

The arena turned silent.

Although the other fellow had won, he was dead. So it literally implied they had both lost.

Kailen, alongside many others, made mental notes to not let their guards down after battles had ended.

"As expected of universe level powerhouses, none of them should be underestimated," the vampire lady conversed with the human friend.

"I gotta say I am a bit surprised honestly," the human lady said. "Even a rare alchemy purity level of 86 percent is the norm in these competitions. It looks like living in the sect may not be that boring."

Kailen ignored the duo having their conversation and paid attention to the battles.

Very soon, his name, or fake name, was called.

"Oasis Anderson. Kindly proceed to Arena B3223."

"Rosalinda Croupes, kindly proceed to Arena B3223."

Kailen’s brown eyes were calm as his figure flashed towards the arena.

However, Rosalinda and her vampire friend stared in his direction in slight surprise.

This handsome quiet fellow sitting adjacent to them was a participant? And Rosalinda would be having an alchemy battle with her?

Well, he seemed quite interesting. Unfortunately, he was bound to lose.

Rosalinda was not the only one who thought so.

Some in the crowd were equally in an uproar.

"Rosalinda Croupes? The genius alchemy prodigy from the Croupes Conglomerate?"

"Are they not one of the prestigious alchemy families in the Empire?"

"They are all prodigies. This Rosalinda is rumored to have a very monstrous purity level."

"It seems this Oasis Anderson is bound to lose this round."

"Indeed. But it’s rare for the youngest daughter of the Croupes to head out. Rumors are that after the third born son was killed by a vimodial, the parents are overly protective of her."

"Yeah, that’s weird. Anyway, perhaps they decided to let her finally venture out to broaden her horizons."

"Indeed."

Several outer sect elders, participants in bleachers, outer and inner sect disciples discussed.

The moment they appeared in the arena, Rosalinda slightly nodded to Oasis Anderson and got to work.

"Quite mature. Not a jade beauty. That’s good," Kailen thought.

However, he didn’t begin.

"How much should I reveal?" he thought. "A purity level of 93 percent is not bad. The whole universe literally knows I have a purity level of 99.99 percent. This place is full of universe level powerhouses. No one here is a fool. If I reveal my purity level of 99.99 percent, it’s obvious the dots will be connected."

A glint flashed through Kailen’s eyes.

"Also, I should just participate in the alchemy competition. However, securing the first spot of the alchemy competition won’t be a problem with a purity level of 93 percent."

Several individuals stared at Oasis Anderson, who had not yet begun to work.

"Why is Oasis Anderson just standing there?"

"It seems he has given up," many in the audience thought.

Rosalinda worked with preternatural finesse and focus. To those observing, it was as if she, and the work she was doing, was the only thing that mattered in the world.

Her alchemy flame was not ordinary.

The cauldron floated under the refined control of her spiritual power.

The alchemical ingredients moved with precision and control into the cauldron.

She blended them together, her eyes slightly narrowing from time to time. It was obvious what she was trying to achieve was no easy feat.

Many watched her demonstrate her skill in awe.

As expected of a Croupes. Alchemy monsters through and through.

Finally, to their surprise, Oasis Anderson also acted.

A flame appeared in his hands.

Rosalinda used her perception to observe him.

This guy was not simple.

She was from an alchemy family and naturally had strong instincts about alchemy flames.

"If his flame is not as powerful as mine, it’s more powerful than it. Interesting."

Oasis Anderson, however, was oblivious to her thoughts.

His alchemical ingredients appeared before him.

Everyone was looking forward to him taking out a cauldron.

However, what he did next shocked all who were observing the match between the two.

Even Rosalinda herself was surprised. But she didn’t try to attack him. In her opinion, she was here to enter the sect to broaden her horizons, not to kill people. If he didn’t take the initiative to attack her, she won’t attack him. Besides, this competition and its rewards meant little to her. She was just participating for the fun of it. Why would she kill someone over this?

Oasis suddenly started refining some sort of elixir in the alchemical flame without even using a cauldron?

Many alchemists observing the competition between the two knew he was not trying to show off, with the level of skill he was demonstrating.

Everyone was curious about how the match between these two geniuses would turn out.
