Chapter 100: The Other Side
"It’s about time I gave you a real weapon."
Adam said, flashing a grin that clearly said he was way too pleased with himself.
"You’ve more than earned it."
He commented to Clara, complementing his current feats.
"Well, if you think so, mon Maître."
With that said, he raised his left hand forward and opened his palms. It was not long after that a black colored box manifested into his hands, naturally, it was invisible to anyone but him.
Soon after it opened up, and a black mist leaked from it, glowing dark purple on the inside, as a blade manifested from the box. From the perspective of Clara, it just looked as if a sword was manifesting out of thin air.
It was a claymore, looking at it, one might think it was forged from a metal so dark that the metal itself devoured light around it.
It was a full black sword, from the blade to the guard, and even the hilt was full black. The only difference was its unique shape, the thorny rose bush, and vines that swirl around the blade. And the short poem glows a dark royal purple, as the poem says.
꧁༺ "𝓘𝓷 𝓼𝓱𝓪𝓭𝓸𝔀𝓮𝓭 𝓯𝓲𝓮𝓵𝓭𝓼 𝓫𝓮𝔂𝓸𝓷𝓭 𝓴𝓮𝓷 𝓸𝓯 𝓼𝓾𝓷, 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓻𝓸𝓸𝓽𝓮𝓽𝓱 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓰𝓪𝓻𝓭𝓮𝓷 𝔀𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓼𝓸𝓻𝓻𝓸𝔀 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓫𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓽𝓱 𝓽𝔀𝓲𝓷𝓮 𝓪𝓼 𝓸𝓷𝓮." ༻꧂
The poem was short and sweet, and it looked like something that was carved into the blade.
The purple light glowed, delivering a sinister energy. And being able to sense desires, Adam could sense a strong desire from this thing.
’I want to kill.’
’Destroy and murder.’
’Genocide, Genocide!’
’Truly a scary weapon, but once tame, it is an irreplaceable weapon to have.’ Clara stared at the weapon, her hands flexing at her sides. She stepped forward almost unconsciously, drawn to it, her long coat whispering against her boots.
Adam couldn’t resist one last jab, a little crooked smile rising at his mouth.
"Just... try not to propose to it before you swing it. So here you go, try it out for yourself." frёeωebɳovel.com
Right after, the blade began to float towards Clara, as it moved according to Adam’s will.
Of course, Clara caught it.
And the weight of the blade settled into her palm with a natural ease, as if the sword had always been meant for her.
She felt something connect with her soul, as if she was chained to this thing the moment it was given to her.
She shifted it once, twice...testing the heft, the balance, and then gave it a few cautious swings through the stale cavern air.
The blade sang when it cut through the air, a low, resonant hum that whistled when used to attack.
It was smooth and comfortable, and she hated to admit it, but the grip was perfect; it reminded her a lot of her old partner, almost as if the sword itself was made for her.
Clara’s lips twitched, the barest hint of a smile flashing across her otherwise stoic face.
"C’est... bon."
She murmured under her breath.
Then, after a heartbeat, she added with a little more feeling.
"Good... Very Good."
Clara said it was obvious to Adam that she really loves this new sword.
Adam, on the other hand, was grinning like a cat who’d just dropped a dead mouse on a friend’s doorstep.
"It seems that you like my gift, that’s nice."
He said while snapping his fingers, and in a puff... B.O.W. vanished as Adam desummoned it.
"Now that you’re properly armed."
"...It’s about time we crossed over."
He said as he walked towards the portal, and Clara followed him.
And as natural as breathing, Adam just walked right into the purple colored magic portal; it was akin to walking through a normal door.
But as they escape through the tunnel, they end up back in one of a similar nature.
It was clear they were still underground, just in a different location.
But it was also clear that Yarquella was somehow able to enslave the antmen to make these underground caverns and tunnels as well.
But unlike the previous one, this one was narrower and shorter. To be honest, this wasn’t even a cavern; it was a pathway, and there was even a way out of here.
Just going straight, they found themselves a series of large stairs.
And when they walked up to it to see where it led...and soon they saw a red light.
Ahead, the world opened up.
And what a lovely sight it was.
The stairs led to a makeshift entrance to the surface.
And both Adam and Clara had stepped into a barren wasteland, which was the best way to call it.
As the sandstorm raged against a massive forcefield that separates this place from the endless storm, the translucent dome stretched high into the heavens. Looking at it, Adam could tell right away that the barrier that protected this place was a product of Fundamental magic, and of the Nature type.
Meanwhile, the two found themselves at an old temple site...or a courtyard of some nature.
The old ruins stretch far off, but seeing the designs of these temples, Adam realizes the construction right away.
"Aztec ruins ha? Now, what are these things doing here?"
"...I would guess this is a forgotten Mayan city, but still to find something like this was rather odd to say the least."
Clara, overhearing her master, naturally began to question him, asking him questions like.
"You seem rather familiar with these ruins, maître. If that is so, do you know where we are?"
Adam knew what the ruins were for sure, but where they were, that was another question, as such. He turned to the System and asked it as such.
’Hey System, what does your archive say about this place?’
And the moment he asked that, the System responded back in kind, stating.
『Well, Master, after searching my Archives, I can tell you that if it weren’t for that barrier, you would already be dead. First of all, this is not a temple ground, it only looks like it. This was once an ancient monster city, built by a now-extinct species called the Luminari. They were known as the Celestial People, and while they looked human, their glowing eyes set them apart』
Said the System, as she began to explain what these ruins are to a clueless Adam. It was times like these that Adam was glad the System came with a built-in Archive. So she can shed some light on topics or questions without an answer.
As such, he listened carefully to the System explanation.
『They were known to be able to travel the multiverse of different worlds to collect knowledge. Especially the human world, as humans were easy to manipulate, as such they would claim to be gods to them, and enslave the people under false promises of divinity. However, in doing so, they taught early humans many things, including construction, architecture, and astronomy』
『That is why their ruins feel familiar. The humans they touched became the ancestors of what we now call the Mayans. Their structures, their knowledge, all of it came from the Celestial People, which made them centuries ahead of any other human civilization at the time』
Explained the System.
And after hearing all of this, Adam nodded his head in understanding.
’I see... How fascinating...however, what about this place?’
He asked this question mentally; however, the answer he got surprised him to no end, as it answered why exactly this place was as far away as it was.
『Well, for where we’ve ended up, my Archives are telling me that we’re at the very edge of the Monster World, or at least, close to it. In this sandstorm, the sand is imbued with the concept of fear and death. You will die if you get lost in it, as it was created by the Second Monster Lord to keep monsters from crossing into this barren land』
『If you were to cross this desert, you would eventually reach the edge of the world... and fall right off. The Monster World is flat, after all. Once you reach the World’s Edge, you’ll come into contact with the Reality Barrier, which is liquid in nature, but it is the force that protects the Monster World from the Nether Void』
『The Nether Void is basically the interstellar space of the Monster World, but it acts as a container for this entire sandbox reality. And let me tell you, unlike the stars, galaxies, and planets you’re familiar with in the human world, what is out there is far more terrifying, as all that exists outside is the reality eaters that dwell in the void. And this reality container we’re standing in? It is the Monster World’s version of a planet』
When Adam heard this, he tensed up at the information, he was indeed familar with reality eaters, ancient beings that eat reality, as their hunger is eternal.
That’s why nighttime is the scariest time of the Monster world, even for monsters. As the green cloud basically means it’s a time of weakness when the barrier that keeps them out weakens, and their tendrils, or avatars, can enter our own reality.
But he never knew they were the equivalent of the celestial bodies in the human world.
Or that the Monster World is basically a flat plane or a sand-box reality.
Either way, he knew what he wanted to know as such. Playing as a smart person, he began to explain to Clara everything he knew about this place.
But he was also thankful that the world is turning red again, meaning the daytime is near... and the night has concluded.
