Chapter 144: Earth monster

Audrey had suggested they shower and eat before she told him everything.

Downstairs, Audrey sat on the sofa, anxiously tapping her fingers together; she was so bothered, Lake seemed too normal for her comfort, she couldn’t get her mind to relax. Every second was filled with tension as she wondered what might happen to him.

"You okay, Moma?" Lake asked as he walked over to her with a glass of water, his eyes staring at her with adoration.

Audrey sighed, "I should be asking you that." She replied, gazing at his face as he sat down by her side.

Lake smiled, "Here." He raised the glass of water to her lips.

Audrey took it from him, sipped it, and 9lac3s it down on the table in front of her.

She turned to Lake, "Seriously? You’re fine?" She asked.

Lake was busy staring at her face, he didn’t answer her question but he slowly leaned in beside her ear and whispered, "I’m glad you’re mine, Audrey." His arm snuck around her as he kissed her cheek.

Audrey wished she could be as relaxed as Lake was, but she and Avery were on the tippy toes, waiting for the worst to happen, and that was why she had delayed telling him in the bedroom.

What if she told him and he just died? The end?

"Okay, how about you don’t tell me now? Look how stressed you look. I don’t want that," Lake said, pulling her to his side, "You can tell me tomorrow, or whenever you’re comfortable. I would have said that these memories don’t really matter, but I would be lying. I do want to recall everything I’ve done with you in the past..." he tilted hee chin up.

"Our first kiss... who said I love first, our first time together, our fights... if there are any... our promises to each other, our obstacles. I can’t just dispose of them like they never happened because they did and they all have you in it. Everything about you is precious, I want to remember everything I breathe my last, Audrey. So, I’ll wait for you, whenever you’re ready," he leaned in and kissed her lips.

Audrey releases a shaky breath, hugging him, "I want to tell you everything, too. But, I’m scared I’d lose you; I almost did in the past, and, trust me, it wasn’t a pleasant experience, I would never want to face it again. This time, I might not have what it takes to help you, I don’t want to risk it." She placed her palm on his cheek, staring into his eyes with a serious look.

"I’m already shocked that everything is normal, especially after this..." She lowered her hand to her mark on his neck.

Lake closed his eyes and leaned anti his touch, I love you, Audrey. We’ll be fine, I can feel it." He whispered.

Audrey smiled, "I hope so... um, there’s something I need to show you, in the forest," She places a gentle hand on his thigh..

Lake nodded, "Wherever you go that’s where I follow, Moma." He replied in a deep voice.

Audrey smiled. She really wanted to just sit and enjoy her bond with her mate. But this wasn’t the time to feel bonita, hee sound could feel that something was going to happen.

There was only one thing she wanted to do: take Lake to the garden.

Just in case something started to happen to him, the statue will see the outcome of its advice and know what to do about it.

"Let’s go," Audrey held his hand and stood from the sofa.

Lake let her lead him, falling in step with him as they left their home.

He was just trying to let her stay happy by smiling like everything was alright, but within him, he was starting to feel weak, his wolf, too. It wasn’t painful in any kind for of way, he just felt as if he was slowly starting to fade away from existence while still breath, as if he’d died before and somehow managed to escape it, but now, death was slowly creeping up on him like a famlial, slowly overtaking his body.

He tried to fight it, stay strong, but he just kept getting weaker. He tried to hide it to an extent so Audrwy doesn’t feel it, but he guessed his best wasn’t good enough, her restlessness showed that she could still feel his distress.

He wanted to live for her, she was the reason he wanted to stay alive, she brought colour to his dead life. He was so lost without her, and she knew he would feel just the same without him, especially now that they were mated, she might even probably die from the pain of losing a mate, and they would end up leaving their son behind at a young age.

Lake suddenly paused as they stepped out of the pack house.

Audrey paused, too, turning back to look at him, "What’s the problem? You don’t want to go anymore?" She asked gently.

Lake sighed and went over to her, hugging her tightly, "I love you, Audrey. Our son, too. If anything ever happens, promise you’d stay strong for our son, I never want you both to feel alone, be there for each other, and don’t forget to tell him that he had the best dad in the whole world as he grows old." He whispered, kissing her hair.

Aydrey’s heart broke, tears fell from her eyes she tightened his hold on him.

’Fuck! I can’t face this again. Maybe he should never have come to Paris?’ She sniffed, forcing her tears to stop flowing.

She stepped back and stared into Lake’s eyes and that’s when she noticed how weak he was looking. A sob escaped her mouth.

"You didn’t have to act rough, Lake," her trembling hands caresses his cheek, "You’re going to be just fine, I fucking promise you." She sniffed and angrily wiped her tears.

"Come on, let’s go, there must be a way out of this mess," She said and gently held his hand, "Can you walk?" She asked.

Lake smiled, "Of course, Moma. Come on." He kissed her hand and nodded at her.

Audrey felt like bawling her eyes out, she could feel Regal’s presence slowly getting weaker and weaker. She needed to think fast.

"Dad? Are you sick? I feel your wolf whimpering," Mikhail suddenly walked up to them, Maria and Mary by his side.

Lake turned and smiled at Mikhail, his eyes stung with held-back tears. He didn’t want to leave his son, he’s already been so absent in his life. Dying now would make the boy probably forgive him face when he grew up, and he hadn’t even had time to create enough memories with him.

"I’m fine, Alpha. Alphas are strong, just like you," Lake said to Mikhail, holding out his hand for he boy to hold.

Mikhail wasn’t smiling, he held his father’s hand and stared up at his face, "Come on, Dad, I have a friend who can help you, she lives in the garden." He said and says to lead Lake away from everyone and toward the forest.

Lake didn’t know about any garden, but something suddenly felt familiar about the name.

The twins shared a look with Audrey and immediately went to hug her.

"He marked you," Mary whispered.

Audrey slowly nodded, "I marked him, too. Maybe I shouldn’t have -"

"Chill, babe. You know, unlike before, I’m really not fretting. Your boy has some kind of presence in him that tells me that this is going to be over soon, and the Alpha is going to be just fine. Don’t cry, you’ve got a son now, he’s here to protect his parents’ love. I promise you," Maria smiled at Audrey, touching her cheeks.

Audrey smiled through her tears, "I believe you." She sniffed, feeling like shit.

Green walked out of the Pack house with Sebastian behind her.

"We can go with you, if you let us," Green said as they approached Audrey.

Audrey stared at them with a small smile, "Of course, at least I’ll have hope when I see you both. If Sebastian could get you to fall for him, then nothing is impossible." She teased as tears fell from her eyes.

Green smiled at her, "Then I hope our case would be the most impossible one ever." She said to Audrey, glancing at Sebastian who was staring at her.

"Let’s go," Maria held Audrey’s hand and led her to follow Lake and Mikhail who were halfway to the forest.

They walked into the forest and Audrey hurried to meet up with Mikhail as they approached the tall trees.

"Show me how you open it, Baby," Audrey said to Mikhail.

Mikhail nodded, "Look, Dad, I’ll prove to you that there’s always been a white gate here." He said and walked toward the trees, placing his hands on each tree.

Lake watched with shock as the thick vines covering the trees unwrapped themselves from the trees, a soft wind blew around them, and just like magic, the two trees didn’t move, but he could suddenly see a very white gate with some rune engravings on it.

He couldn’t even blink as he slowly turned to look at Audrey, "There was a gate?" He asked, surprised. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Audrey nodded, "This is part of what I wanted to tell you." She said to him.

"And this isn’t the only thing she’d lied about," Ava suddenly walked out from behind a tree.

Everyone turned to her, anger and hatred evident in her eyes.

Maria had always told everyone who she was, so they knew why she was back and hated her even more.

"What is she talking about?" Lake asked.

Audrey went and held Lake’s hand, "Come on, let’s get you in there, what she says isn’t important, you’re more important." She said to him.

Lake listened to Audrey and started to follow her in.

"I wouldn’t follow her in there if I were you... You’re going to die. I’m sure you can already feel it, this is what she’d always wanted. She couldn’t succeed five years ago, so she returned, and this time, it looks like she’s winning. All she wants is your pack, Alpha, she never loved you -"

"Shut up!" Lake growled, glaring at Ava as he headed heavily, feeling weaker.

Audrey narrowed her eyes at Ava, she itched to kill her, but she chose Lake first. After overcoming this episode with Lake, she would give Ava the same thing she gave her father.

"Let her be, Green. I’ll deal with her after -"

"You bitch! This bastard isn’t Lake’s! You used magic to make him think that it’s his son. You’re never going to succeed - what the fuck?!" Ava screamed, her eyes widened on fear amd shock as she saw the earth grow in front of her into something like a giant monster.

Large hands, no eyes, just eye sockets as dark as the night. Gigantic body, monster legs and a loud growl from a very dark unearthly monster.

"No, no, make it go away!" Ava stumbled backwards, falling on the floor, her body trembling in fear as the ground shook with every heavy step the monster took.

"Oh, it’s not me, Adeline..." Audrey walked over with Mikhail, standing by the side of the earth monster with a smirk on her lips.

"It’s him," She placed a hand on Mikhail’s shoulder.
