Chapter 128: Gone with the waves

"It’s been hours...is he ever coming back?" Mary asked as they sat under the orchid.

Audrey sighed. She didn’t know either.

"He’ll be back," Alpha Lake said, holding Audrey’s hand in his.

"Yeah...he will," Audrey replied.

"Hey, look," Maria said, tapping Audrey and pointing to the girls who were still lying beside the river.

Audrey looked and saw that the whole petals of the flower had soaked all up, the once white petals were now darker than the night.

"It’s done," Audrey said and stood, walking toward the girls.

She observed them closely, their once paling skin now had a hue of life to it, and their eyes didn’t seem sunken anymore.

She went beside the river again and did what she had done with the water before. She hovered her hand above the river, the water stirring, but instead of rising, the arched water cut off from the water source. The flower’s petals were seen rising to meet the arched water, and in the next second, the water and flower evaporated into the air.

"Are you sure they’re okay now? Maybe we should get more Stellaluna and place on them..." Sandra said apprehensively.

"Relax, Sandy, they’re alright," Maria assured.

"But, when are they going to wake up?" Maria asked, staring at the still unconscious girls.

"They’ll wake up in 3...2...1," Audrey finished, and the girls immediately opened their eyes.

They gasped and instantly sat up, looking around the whole place.

Cara was the first to notice Audrey, startled as she saw her.

"L-luna, please, I’m sorry for all I did to you. P-please f-forgive me," Cara immediately went on her knees.

The others saw her and realized their new environment and immediately knelt before Audrey, their heads bowed.

Audrey stared at them, pitying them within her. But before she could reply to them, Sandra stepped in front of her, looking angry.

Sandra stood before the girls, staring angrily at them.

"Forgive you? Do you know how many families have lost their loved ones? In the name of reaping souls? Okay, that’s recent..." Sandra paused, placing her hand on Audrey’s shoulder.

"Forgive you? Do you realize the torture and trauma you caused her when she was still wolfless, or have you easily forgotten?!" Sandra’s voice was cracking.

It wasn’t her place to judge them, but being Audrey’s friend for a long time, she was beside her each time she cried about how much she suffered at the hands of her bullies who were now kneeling before her, shamelessly begging her to forgive them.

"Answer me this: if she didn’t have powers, would you be this repentant of your actions, especially you," She pointed at Grace, "Who almost got her killed by stabbing her," Sandra said, staring at each of the girls.

"Please, we’re sorry, we were wrong, very wrong," Grace pleaded, sobbing.

"I’m sorry, too. I should have never tried to be you, I was jealous, but I’ve realized that I was wrong, and what wasn’t meant to be mine can never be mine, no matter how much I tried," Janeth said quietly.

The girls were being honest this time around. They had thought of betraying Audrey with Elena, but they knew they’d go down with Elena in the end. They were tired of being the villains; they just wanted Audrey to forgive them and free them of the heavy burden of guilt that was eating them up from within.

"It’s alright, Sandy, they’re being sincere, and we’ve come a long way, my wounds are healed and forgotten, and if I really want to heal completely, I need to forgive them," Audrey said, smiling faintly at Sandra.

Sandra knew it was the truth. She sighed and slowly nodded. "I just needed to let it out," Sandra said, smiling.

Audrey nodded, "I forgive you all, you can stand up," Audrey gave Cara her hand and helped her up.

"Thank you," They said to her, looking down, still not having the gut to look her in the eyes.

"Nice," Maria whispered to Audrey.

"Do you have any memories of yesterday?" Audrey asked them.

The girls looked at each other and shook their heads.

"The last thing I remember was drinking a poisonous-looking potion which Elena had given us," Janeth informed.

"Me too," Cara said.

Grace nodded in agreement.

"Understandable," Audrey replied.

"Your souls were being controlled by Elena’s dark magic, overtaking your consciousness and making you do things you would have never done in your right senses," Audrey explained.

"But... the oath we took, it sounded as if we were never going to be freed from the hold of the dark magic, are we...completely healed?" Cara asked cautiously.

Audrey smiled, their fear was reasonable. "You’re well cleansed, back to your normal selves," Audrey assured.

"Thank you so - w-what is that?" Cara asked, looking horrified as she stared behind Audrey and her friends.

"What is w-argh!" Sandra screamed as she looked behind to see the water rise above their heads.

"Oh fuck, run!" Audrey shouted and quickly flew away from the riverside side.

Everyone followed her, panicking as they ran.

Sandra was almost out of danger, but something tripped her, making her fall and roll back to the riverside side.

Others watched in horror as the water came down upon her, splashing all over the place, and when the water mellowed down, they couldn’t find Sandra anywhere.

"No! She’s dead!" Maria exclaimed.

But, they suddenly heard Audrey chuckling and turned their head to her, looking at her worriedly.

"It’s not funny, Audrey; your friend had just disappeared with the water, and you think it’s funny?" Maria asked, exasperated.

Alpha Lake had remained under the trees, and as they ran back to him, he saw the look on Audrey’s face but decided to keep mute about it. After all, who would support his mate best if not him?

"Chill, Maria, she was whiny anyway, right, Mary?" Audrey asked, wriggling her brows at Mary who was staring at her like she’s gone nuts.

"Um, I didn’t think so," Mary replied.

"Did you just let your best friend get eaten by the enchanted river just because she was whiny? Yes, she was whiny, but that’s what I loved most about her!" Maria was heartbroken.

She couldn’t believe what was happening now, what was Audrey thinking?

"Not eaten...sacrificed," Audrey said, still smiling.

Maria scoffed, shaking her head at Audrey, disappointed.

"Sacrificed? What sacrifice? Why her?" Maria asked again, looking around the place for any signs of Sandra. She didn’t find her.

"I sacrificed her in place of Mark, didn’t you want him back? So, choose one, Mark or Sandra, who would it be?" Audrey asked seriously.

Maria opened and closed her mouth, looking at the other girls, who all had a gloomy expression on their faces.

Mary put her hand on her sister’s shoulder and shook her head at her, telling her to answer the question.

Alpha Lake slowly got up and marched toward Audrey.

He put his hand around her waist and kissed her cheek. "Okay, Kitten, stop playing with your friends," he whispered.

Audrey pouted, "One more minute?" Audrey asked, looking up at him.

He shook his head, refusing her, he saw how devastated the twins were starting to look.

"No," He said.

"Uhg, fine..." Audrey said.

She took Maria and Mary’s hand and led them to the riverside.

"Look into the river," She said to them.

They apprehensively looked at each other before stepping closer and looking down at the river.

They saw Sandra safely wrapped in an air bubble, floating beneath the water, she even waved up at them.

"What the...you tricked us!" Maria said and immediately nodded to her twin and they both attacked Audrey.

"Hey, hey, calm down guys...the whole thing was getting boring for me and I decided to make it a little - ahh!" Audrey was trying to escape from her attackers when she suddenly tripped and fell into the water, but she made sure she dragged the twins in with her.

They dived into the water, and Audrey just used his finger to burst Sandra’s bubble, dragging her up to the surface.

"You bitch! You made me believe I was dead!" Sandra jumped behind Audrey, wrapping her hand around her neck.

"She fooled us all," Maria glared at her.

"That was wicked, cousin," Mary said.

"Okay, okay, I’m sorry, I can’t breathe, Sandra, release my neck," Audrey tapped at Sandra’s hand that was holding her neck.

"You’re such a bad friend," Sandra said and swam away from Audrey.

"Hey, but at least, we discovered that Marja, in fact, loves you for your temper and big mouth," Audrey exposed.

"Audrey! That was in the moment," Maria defended.

Sandra snapped her head to Maria.

"Really?! Oh, I always knew you loved me more than you love Caleb," Sandra said to Maria.

"No, no, get off me!" Maria backed away, trying to escape Sandra’s hold.

"Guys..." very suddenly called.

Everyone stopped playing and turned to her.

"What’s the matter, Mary?" Audrey asked.

"The amulet," Mary replied pointing beside them.

Audrey looked and saw her amulet glowing and floating above the water.

"Oh no," Sandra gasped softly.

"He- he didn’t return?" Maria asked, tears forming in her eyes.
