Has Big Shot Fallen in Love Today?-Chapter 852: Tears of a Beauty
If it were just Fu Qingcen’s movie, Sheng Tang might have been amused by her misfortune.
But since the company invested, Sheng Tang couldn’t say much.
She might not have much affection for the company, but Ke Fei is deeply attached.
Ke Fei sincerely treats the company as his own.
Gu Jiahui over there probably isn’t feeling too great either.
"Damn, Brother Fei, Fu Qingcen probably hates me," Sheng Tang joked.
Ke Fei couldn’t help but laugh as well: "Well, be careful. But it’s okay, Tangtang. To be honest, Fu Qingcen isn’t as smart as you."
He meant Sheng Tang didn’t need to worry about being outsmarted by Fu Qingcen; Fu Qingcen doesn’t have the brains for it.
Sheng Tang laughed too.
Ke Fei also agreed with Sheng Tang: two actresses, with movies coincidentally releasing on the same day. One defies expectations with rising box office and acclaim, the other expected success, but ends up flopping in both areas.
Anyone in that situation would have a hard time staying calm.
Even if they don’t take direct action, it’s unavoidable that there’s some resentment.
"...I really didn’t expect ’High Heels’ to flop this badly," Ke Fei added.
Sheng Tang: "I saw it coming. I told President Gu before, the risk with novel adaptations is particularly high. It’s not like having a mature best-selling novel guarantees a successful movie.
A movie needs a director who can control the entire scene, knows how to shoot and choose angles. If the novel isn’t something the director loves or is good at, he might misinterpret its expression.
In the end, everything becomes a mess, totally unrecognizable. Sister Zheng makes female-oriented movies, and her preparation takes at least three years. Copying her success isn’t that easy?"
Ke Fei thought what she said made sense.
"Then in the future, let’s not take on novel adaptation projects," Ke Fei said, "Learn from past mistakes."
"No, if we do take one on, we need to meet the director first. The director is the key," Sheng Tang said with a smile, "If the project is good, I would take it."
Ke Fei nodded.
The car arrived at Gu Jiahui’s apartment, and Sheng Tang immediately noticed the lights were all on.
Ke Fei also looked up and then asked Sheng Tang, "President Gu seems still awake. Want me to go up with you?"
"No need." Sheng Tang gave a faint smile.
She went up on her own.
Gu Jiahui indeed was still awake, in the study, seemingly on the phone with someone.
Sheng Tang knocked on the door, but without waiting for his response, she entered.
Gu Jiahui looked gentle, sitting in front of the computer, tenderly comforting someone.
A woman’s sobbing came from the video, it was Fu Qingcen.
Her voice was hoarse.
It was getting late, Gu Jiahui reassured her a few more times, promised to take her out for some fresh air tomorrow, and only then ended the video call.
He rubbed his temples, glanced at his watch: "Just got back?"
"Yeah," Sheng Tang replied, "Was that Fu Qingcen just now?"
"Yes," Gu Jiahui said, clearly troubled.
"The movie tanked, right?" Sheng Tang continued.
Gu Jiahui nodded again, gesturing for Sheng Tang to grab him a bottle of water.
Sheng Tang handed it over.
Gu Jiahui took a sip and let out a deep sigh.
He perked up: "Congratulations, your movie is getting rave reviews. It seems like its box office will rise instead of falling. You’re about to have another hit movie."
Sheng Tang laughed: "Boss, did you forget? A quarter of the investment is yours. It’s our movie."
Gu Jiahui gave a small smile.
That smile seemed a bit malicious, leaving Sheng Tang unsure if he was being sarcastic.
