Harry Potter and the Secret Treasures-Chapter 1243: Gifts and Cats
“Does she do this often? Bringing food home?” asked Evan.
“No, my aunt and uncle don’t like having dead mice in the house. One of the conditions they agreed to let me keep Hedwig and let her out for fresh air at night was that she mustn’t bring back things like this,” said Harry, putting on his pajamas. “She must really like you. I’ve never seen Hedwig bring a gift to anyone else.”
“Really? This gift is such a surprise.”
Evan felt like he hadn’t had much contact with Hedwig. This owl was really a little strange. It wasn’t the first time she’d seen him…
If she wanted to give him a gift, why didn’t she do it earlier? And why give him a dead mouse? Surely, she didn’t expect him to eat it, did she?
Weird, weird … really weird.
Evan thought for a moment. Hedwig was smart, so maybe she had seen him in his Animagus form before.
Then, perhaps she mistook him for a cat …
“Just leave it there,” said Harry. “She’ll come back and take the mouse away.”
As he spoke, he got into one of the beds, then immediately turned around and picked up the pillow. There was something hard inside the pillowcase.
Harry groped inside it and pulled out a sticky purple-and-orange sweet.
“It’s a Puking Pastille.” He smiled, rolled over, and was instantly asleep.
Evan also climbed onto George’s bed. Feeling tired, he didn’t think much about Hedwig’s strange behavior. The owl must have made some mistake. He had no interest in the vole and had no intention of eating it. But for some reason, he seemed to really hear a cat’s meowing while he was sleeping soundly late at night.
Before his eyes was endless darkness, and in his ears was the terrifying silence that was as terrible as death.
Evan wasn’t sure if he fell asleep, when a creepy cat’s cry sounded in the darkness.
“Meow!” He opened his eyes, and the door was suddenly opened from the outside!
On the bed next to him, Harry also sat bolt upright as if by reflex.
They heard the rasp of the curtains being pulled back: The dazzling sunlight seemed to poke them hard in the eyes.
There was no cat. In his groggy state, Evan saw Ron rushing toward Harry.
“What’s going on?”
“Harry, Evan, we didn’t know you were here already!” said a loud and excited voice.
“Ron!”
“Ron?” Harry seemed not to be fully awake, and then he received a sharp blow to the top of the head.
“Ron, don’t hit him!” said a girl’s voice reproachfully.
Harry’s hand found his glasses and he shoved them on, though the light was so bright he could hardly see anyway.
A long, looming shadow quivered in front of him for a moment. He blinked and Ron Weasley came into focus, grinning down at him.
Behind him, came Hermione, who sat down beside Evan’s bed.
Just as Mrs. Weasley had said, though it had only been a few months, Ron seemed much taller than before.
His clothes didn’t fit him very well, but his personality hadn’t changed at all, he was still the same.
Ron started by asking Evan about what happened in Egypt. He was very interested in Evan’s experiences there.
Harry also wanted to know. He’d heard Evan briefly talk about it last night, but he hadn’t gone into much detail.
Starting from the International Alchemical Conference, Evan recounted his experiences in detail, with Hermione listening beside him.
Of course, he didn’t tell everything. There were some things that needed to be kept secret, such as the things between the Titans and the Old Gods, the Last War, and the fact that he got a replica of the Eye of Horus. He had told Hermione before that it was not that he didn’t trust Harry and Ron, but the more people who knew about this kind of thing, the more dangerous it would be.
Harry and Ron were not interested in the details either; they wanted to know about the power and weapons of the gods.
“In the prison left by Ramses II, I thought I was going to fail. I was controlled by those gods and fell from a high altitude. Suddenly…” Evan stopped abruptly. He remembered the green cat.
The eerie cat cry he had heard in the darkness last night — it sounded so familiar…
And speaking of that, where had that strange, ugly-looking cat disappeared to in the end? It had vanished without a trace.
Also, what exactly was it?
It could fight against the ancient Egyptian gods and guide Evan…
“What happened suddenly?”
“I suddenly came to my senses, raised my wand and conjured a rope to wrap around the stairs above, climbed up again, found the weapon and activated it,” said Evan. “And then I was teleported out.”
“Wow, what kind of super-powerful weapon was it?” Ron asked.
“I’m not sure. It looked more like a Muggle machine, like a turbine engine or something like that. I pressed the switch and it started, generating a powerful suction force, and the entire Ruins of Amun Ra were destroyed,” said Evan.
The four of them discussed Ramses II’s weapon, analyzing it. It all sounded quite absurd.
But one thing was certain: the weapon was incredibly powerful. If Voldemort had been there, he’d definitely have been doomed…
However, when the Ruins of Amun Ra were destroyed, the weapon was destroyed along with them, so it couldn’t be used to fight Voldemort.
After that, Ron asked Evan what he had gained from the Ruins of Amun Ra, and whether he had found any treasures from ancient Egypt.
Then, the topic shifted to Horace Slughorn.
Everyone thought that Slughorn would take over the position vacated by Sirius, or to be more precise, the position of Defense Against the Dark Arts professor vacated by Umbridge. After all, Sirius was just a substitute teacher last term.
But Evan knew the truth — that the position had been cursed by Voldemort. Slughorn would never accept it.
“Well, did Slughorn seem like he’ll be a good teacher?” Ron asked finally.
“Hard to say…” Hermione commented.”But he has a long history, so he shouldn’t be too bad.”
“There’s nothing to say about the professionalism of the courses, but it’s hard to say about other aspects,” Evan expressed his opinion. “He particularly favors talented students and draws them to his side, giving them special care. However, Dumbledore said that he probably won’t be interested in me in the short term.”
“Is that so? That’s really bad,” said Ron, frowning.
“Don’t worry, no one could be worse than Umbridge,” said Harry.
“I know someone who’s worse than Umbridge,” said a voice from the doorway. Ron’s younger sister Ginny slouched into the room, looking irritable. “Hi, Harry. Hi, Evan.”
“Hi, Ginny.”
“Weren’t you going to the kitchen to get a drink?” Hermione asked. “What happened?”
“It’s her,” said Ginny plonking herself down on Harry’s bed. “She’s driving me mad.”
“Oh, what’s she done now?” asked Hermione sympathetically, with a look of sudden realization.
“It’s the way she talks to me — you’d think I was about three!”
“To be honest, she’s so full of herself. I’ve spent some time with her before…” said Hermione.
“You guys are just prejudiced. She’s actually pretty good,” said Ron vaguely.
“Oh, that’s right, defend her,” snapped Ginny. “We all know you can’t get enough of her. So why don’t you…”
“Wait, who are you talking about?” Harry couldn’t bear to listen any longer.
“Fleur Delacour.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Evan saw Fleur walking in, carrying a tray… freewёbnoνel.com
