They were both too tired to get up.

"Hey! By any chance, would you like any help?" Alice commented with an ironic smile.

With a grunt of agreement, Liam finally rolled off Vanessa. Then Alice moved quickly, planting a large beach umbrella firmly into the sand. With a few practiced adjustments, she angled it just right to shield them from the fading sun.

Harper popped the lid on the cooler, revealing a stash of beers and several containers of ice cream. "Figured you’d worked up an appetite," she said, handing a beer to Liam.

Liam kind of expected this mission; it was basically the same one he had with Vanessa and Alice before. Naturally, he needed to win the love of all three girls to complete it.

"Hey! Do you want to go have fun in the sea?" Harper approached Liam, her voice sweet and playful.

"Yeah, that’s a good idea. I think these two will be stuck talking for a while," Liam replied with an ironic smile, glancing back at Vanessa and Alice, who were chatting happily.

So he and Harper ran toward the waves, laughing as the water splashed around them. She chased him through the shallows, squealing whenever he flicked water her way. It was good to just have fun like that.

Then, in the middle of their play, Liam froze. Out beyond the break, a small shape bobbed weakly against the current. Narrowing his eyes, he realized with shock that it was a cat, struggling not to sink.

"Wait here!" he shouted, dashing into deeper water. Harper gasped but trusted him to know what he was doing.

The waves pulled at him, but he pushed through, reaching the tiny creature and scooping it carefully into his arms. Soaked, shivering, and meowing pitifully, the little cat clung to him with surprising strength.

When he brought it back to shore, all three girls rushed over.

"Oh my god, it’s adorable!" Alice’s eyes lit up instantly.

"Poor thing, it must have been terrified," Vanessa said softly, drying the kitten with her towel.

Harper crouched low, smiling as the animal pressed itself against Liam’s chest, refusing to leave his arms. "Look at that, it already chose you."

The kitten nuzzled into him, tiny paws patting against his shirt, demanding attention. Liam chuckled, stroking its wet fur as it purred loudly.

"So..." Alice said with a teasing grin, "I guess you don’t have much of a choice. You’ll have to adopt it."

"Ok, I think I will do it..." Liam responded hesitantly. He was not sure where the kitten had come from, or if he would be allowed to keep it.

Harper clapped her hands. "That settles it! From now on, it’s part of the family."
