Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 328: My Little Secret
Ruan Chanchan looked at the chiton-shell lobster that was lying flat on the stone slab in the centre of the clearing. The eight armoured plates overlapped like a warrior who had dressed for war but ended up losing the war.
Looking at the chiton-shell lobster, Ruan Chanchan couldn’t help but crouch down and look at it. The thing was ugly as heck, no matter how she looked at it. However, no sooner than she finished thinking, she suddenly had a feeling that the chiton shell lobster was looking at her with quite an affronted gaze.
With a chin in her hand, she backed away from the thing and mused. "Why does it look like this thing is judging me?"
Behind her, one of the mer simply remarked, "It is judging everyone. You should have seen how arrogant it was when it was facing our prince. It looked like it was about to win the fight, but then our prince took it down with just one punch. Of course it will look like that."
"Yeah, but even so, it defended itself quite well. If the prince had not been paying attention, then he would have lost his entire arm," said the leader in a clipped tone. "It deserves to be our meal after it tried to harm our dear prince," the leader spat on the ground, feeling agitated at just the very thought of their prince getting harmed by that thing.
"It was defending itself, Leader Chen," a young mer chortled. "You cannot expect it to stay still and wait for the prince to come and kill it. After all, everyone cares for their lives."
"Bah, it was only protecting its arrogance if you ask me."
Master Luo, on the other hand, leaned back against a tree and looked at the chiton lobster sceptically before asking, "Are you sure that you can do something with it? I mean, is that thing even edible?"
Ruan Chanchan slowly assessed the thing in front of her and then said solemnly, "Everything is edible as long as you are brave enough."
"That’s right, even poison is edible; it’s just a pity that we can only eat it once." A mer joked as he unsheathed his claws and then turned to look at Ruan Chanchan before asking, "Alright, little lady. How do you want to cut this thing?"
Ruan Chanchan pursed her lips. Preparing the chiton lobster was way more tedious and difficult than she thought. After all, the chiton shell mineralised toxin was in its outer seams. Sighing, she rubbed her hands and said, "Alright, I am glad that you all are excited to deal with this thing, but we need to be careful with this lobster. It has toxins in its shell."
"Then what do we need to do?"
"First, we need to crack the shells."
The outer plates were thick, layered like overlapping shields. If they wanted to take the meat out of the shell, they first needed to deal with these shields. Ruan Chanchan asked the processing mers to wedge their claws between the seams and twist them. The mers did as she asked them to do.
Crack.
The sound of something snapping echoed in the air, and everyone couldn’t help but flinch.
"Relax, there is no need to worry," said the Leader when he saw that everyone had taken a step back. "It’s dead." He patted the shell of the lobster to make his point.
"You speak as if there is a chance that it might awaken?" Ruan Chanchan muttered as she glanced at the thing. She already had a little doubt over the fact that this thing was punched down to death by the prince. She had a feeling that there was something weird going on with the death of this thing. What if this thing were still alive and was just biding its time?
The leader pried off the first plate, revealing the flesh underneath—it was dense, slightly translucent, with a faint marble-like effect that only promised its richness.
Steam started to rise the second the leader touched it.
He stepped closer to the flesh and took a sniff. "Well, it does smell clean."
"That’s because this thing lives in the deep waters," explained Ruan Chanchan, who now knew a great deal about the chiton shell lobster. "Cold waters and strong currents help in building muscles for survival."
The leader nodded as he started to cut according to Ruan Chanchan’s instructions. He removed each segment carefully, lining them up in order as Ruan Chanchan told him. Eight pieces of armour soon became eight thick sections of meat.
Ruan Chanchan saved the claws for last.
Those things were massive.
"Why are you smiling? "asked the leader warily.
"Because this is the correct way to dismantle things properly," replied Ruan Chanchan with a cheeky grin. Once the dismantling was done, Ruan Chanchan set the dried wood pieces that she had brought with her and started building a campfire. When Master Luo and the rest of the mers saw Ruan Chanchan starting a fire, they were filled with surprise and awe.
It seemed like the prince was not wrong in saving this woman; she was one with quite a lot of surprises and secrets.
Ruan Chanchan didn’t pay attention to the reactions of the people behind her. She was currently controlling the fire. Instead of letting the fire get out of control, she carefully paid attention to the wooden blocks and made sure that they were burning slowly like embers. She then took a piece of broken shell and placed it on the fire. Just like that, the shell turned into a shallow pan.
From her space, she took out some crushed sea herbs as well as wild garlic and a small golden pack with the chilli pepper flakes.
The leader of the processing team saw the things in her hands and was stunned, and so were the rest of the mers. What was this woman? Was she some kind of fairy? How come she was able to get so many things out of thin air?
"What are these things?"
"My little secret."
