Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 216: The first task
"Did you call me for something, Sister Ruan?" Su Mo asked, attempting to change the topic, when he saw Yuan Ni getting flustered.
Ruan Chanchan turned to look at the mer, momentarily forgetting what she was asking Yuan Ni. Oops, she completely forgot what she came here for because she was having way too much fun while watching these two mers quarrel. What? She had always been a gossip lover. As long as the tea was hot, she had no problem sipping on it.
She immediately cleared her throat in an attempt to clear the awkwardness that she felt and then asked, "I wanted to ask you if you want to become my assistant? You don’t have to agree if you don’t want to, but as an incentive for your work, I will give you meat. So you can think about it and tell me your decision."
Ruan Chanchan knew that the mer was in dire need of a job that would provide well with a steady income in terms of food and other resources. With the supermarket in her hands, she had exactly what the mer wanted—so wasn’t it a completely win-win situation for the two of them? Only a fool would refuse the offer that she was making, or if they had a screw loose in their heads.
Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, the mer’s eyes lit up. Though there was some hesitation and struggle in his eyes, he looked a bit tempted. Because the offer that Ruan Chanchan gave to him was really, really enticing. The one thing that he needed the most right now was food. If Ruan Chanchan could provide that to him then—
"Are you sure that you want me to work for you?" Su Mo asked, his light grey eyes that were closer to white than grey stared at her. His lips were twitching madly, but he suppressed the excitement in his heart.
"Yes." Ruan Chanchan nodded solemnly. She wouldn’t have asked him if she was not sure. The mer was not only hard-working but also clever and knew how to be grateful. He would be a really good partner if he were trained carefully. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Su Mo clenched his fingers and rubbed their tips together. He had to admit that Ruan Chanchan’s suggestion moved him, but he was also scared of messing up. He was crude and clumsy. After all, he was not like other mers who were delicate and lean but rather strong and muscular. He was not good with his hands, and many people in the tribe said that it was a shame that he did not awaken a strong and powerful beast form.
They often told him that he was born in the wrong body. If he were like the other mers who were delicate and had small forms, then he would have attracted a woman long ago, and what’s more, with his hands that were as large as two small boulders, he couldn’t do anything cleanly without making a mess.
Thus, Su Mo had never been accepted by the processing team, even when he was a hardworking mer and could only go with the scouts to collect herbs. Of course, because his hands were not as nimble, he was slower than the rest, and it was only after years of working as a scout that he was finally able to learn how to collect the herbs without breaking them. Even though he was hard-working, no one dared to use him because they knew that it would take a lot of time for him to learn any sort of work.
Thus, Ruan Chanchan came to ask him to work for him, which was such a surprise that he didn’t know whether to believe it or not. He unconfidently said, "But I am not good with my hands. Are you sure that you want me to do this job? What if I break things?"
"Chanchan, don’t listen to him." Yuan Ni glared at Su Mo and stopped him from speaking nonsense anymore. He was worried that the mer would say something more nonsensical and hurriedly pulled him back. Yuan Ni couldn’t help but feel annoyed when he thought about how honest Su Mo was. He was actually letting go of an opportunity that was so good that it could change the lives of his family for good.
He turned to look at Ruan Chanchan in a hurry and put in a good word for his good brother. "He is really hard-working. He is just a bit timid and gets easily flustered. There is nothing wrong with him. I swear on my life."
He then turned to look at Su Mo and added in a soft voice, "He is really capable. You can trust him with everything and anything. I assure you that he will never let you down."
"Yuan–" Su Mo began but before he could say Yuan Ni reached out and covered his mouth with his hand. He glared at him and said, "Stay quiet. Did you not always say that you wanted to get a job that could help you earn well? Why are you suddenly acting like this?"
Su Mo glared right back at him. He mumbled something against his palm.
"Don’t talk nonsense and just accept the offer that has been made to you," Yuan Ni said to him. He even pressed the heel of his palm against Su Mo’s mouth to make him quiet. "This is a really good opportunity; if you do not take it in hand, then you might not get another chance."
"...."
Su Mo fell into a conflicted struggle. He turned silent because what Yuan Ni said did make sense.
Seeing that the two mers had fallen into another set of push and pull, Ruan Chanchan sighed and said kindly, "If you don’t want to take up the job then I will not force you." She had no desire to make someone who was not willing to work for her.
"NO!"
"No he is willing. Who said that he is unwilling?" Yuan Ni shouted anxiously when he heard Ruan Chanchan’s response. He hurriedly moved his hand away from Su Mo’s mouth and said to Ruan Chanchan, "Why would he refuse? He is not an idiot."
"Yuan Ni..." Su Mo softly called Yuan Ni. He pulled him back and said to him, "Why are you giving this responsibility to me? Don’t you–" he raised his head and looked at the woman in front of them.
He knew how much Yuan Ni admired and adored Ruan Chanchan. Why was he suddenly giving this task to him? Clearly, he wanted nothing more than to get closer to Ruan Chanchan. This was something that Su Mo knew very well.
What was more, he knew that ever since Ruan Chanchan got blessed by the beast goddess, many of the mers wanted to get close to Ruan Chanchan. After all, she was not only blessed by the beast goddess, but she was also quite influential with the chief, getting chummy with her.
She also knew how to make jerky and had information that no one else had.
Thus, now many mers dreamt of accompanying Ruan Chanchan, other than awakening as a strong totem warrior.
"Su Mo don’t talk about this matter anymore," Yuan Ni stopped Su Mo from speaking any further. He shot a look at his friend and said with great determination, "I will work hard to become the priest of the tribe. This is my destiny as I’m the heir of this position."
After he finished speaking, he whispered, "I want you to take this position for me."
"..."
Upon hearing this, Su Mo’s expression turned sorrowful. He knew why Yuan Ni was saying this. He heard about what happened with the Yuan parents from Yuan Ni.
He lowered his head and nodded.
"Have you thought it through?" Ruan Chanchan asked gently.
"I will work hard and make sure that I will not let you down." Su Mo lowered his head and agreed at once. Since the beast goddess had blessed him then he would definitely work hard.
"Then I will give you the first task that you need to do. Make sure to do it with great care," said Ruan Chanchan with a kind smile when she saw that the mer had agreed.
"Please tell me, what do you want me to do?" asked Su Mo with a determined look on his face. He looked like he was facing his greatest enemy.
Seeing him look like this, Ruan Chanchan’s lips twitched. She said to him, "There is no need to look so serious. I just want you to go and take this medicine." She handed the parasitic infection medicine to Su Mo. "Make sure to take it once you return home."
"Huh?"
Su Mo raised his head and looked at Ruan Chanchan with a look of surprise. He looked confused with a hint of bewilderment.
"What’s the matter? Is the task that too hard?" Ruan Chanchan asked with a tilt of her head.
