Guide To Train My Beast Husbands-Chapter 193: important notice
Yuan Ni was simply furious. He wanted to charge ahead and deal with this woman himself, but he knew that it was not important at the moment. He turned to look at Chief Xia and said to her, "Did you all also hear the cry just now?"
Even though he knew that they did hear the cry, Yuan Ni wanted to change the topic, or else he was worried he would throttle the woman to death. How dare she look at him as if he were the one who made a mistake by not dying? How dare she!? Did she think that he was the same Yuan Ni– she could pinch and mould as she liked? He was no longer the same person!
Chief Xie nodded. She didn’t understand what was going on and why Yuan Ni and Ruan Chanchan were dripping with water, and why the two of them were together, and why in the world Yuan Ni was looking at Ruan Chanchan as if she were the only starry light in his dark world?
What Chief Xie could see, Xie Daiyu could see it too. He narrowed his eyes and pulled Ruan Chanchan to his side, and glared at the mer who was now eyeing his destined one.
Yuan Ni caught Xie Daiyu’s glare and smiled sheepishly. He had no idea how to continue from here because he had hurt not only Ruan Chanchan but also Xie Daiyu by attacking his woman. He wanted to apologise, but at the same time, Yuan Ni had no idea where to start. He couldn’t bring himself to say anything given the situation.
But he was determined to make things right with Ruan Chanchan and Xie Daiyu.
Ruan Chanchan had saved his life more than once. He couldn’t let his saviour be upset with him, could he?
Ruan Chanchan didn’t care about these little things. She looked around the clearing and softly said, "I smell blood."
As soon as she finished speaking, everyone turned silent and sniffed the air; sure enough, the scent of blood had thickened in the air. They all flushed red in shame when they realised that the one who was the first to recognise was someone whose totem was broken. They glanced at Ruan Chanchan, who simply shrugged her shoulders and waited for someone to take the first step. She was not going to be the first one to look for the victim. Who knows if she found the body first, then Shao Xia would blame her for something else? Who knows, she might even say that she was the one who killed that person and then hid in the crowd? Ruan Chanchan had long learnt her lesson.
In the end, Nan Wu was the first one to walk in the direction from where the stench of blood was coming. Once she took the step, the rest of the tribe followed suit.
They all trotted up the cliff and arrived at the small crater that was right under the old gnarled tree.
"AHH!"
Someone in the crowd screamed, and many of the mers stepped back. Because inside the crater lay a body, one that was mutilated beyond recognition. The entire crater was splattered with blood and flesh, and the totem of the body was missing.
"This is the attack of a Death Hunter," said Nan Wu the second she looked at the hollow in the body. Her eyes flickered as she turned to look at the chief, who was standing behind her. "This is no normal attack; a beast would never steal the totem of a beast warrior, and no one else would do it either, as it is nothing less than a sin. No totem warrior would dare to do such a thing and incur the wrath of the beast goddess. Only the death hunters would dare to do something so cruel and sinful."
Chief Xie’s expression was not good. This place was very close to their tribe, and one of the death hunters dared to kill and drop the body right here.
"This is not good," said one of the elders with a slight tremor in her voice. "Oh, this is really not good. What are we going to do now? Even the death hunters dare to come this close to our territory. What if ...what if they continue attacking our tribe members?"
No one responded to this question, as they had no answer for it. Their territory was safe due to the presence of the priestess, but what about the outside? If they left the territory, who knows when they would get attacked? What if the next time they were attacked and killed just like this warrior?
"Who is he?" Ruan Chanchan asked while peering inside the crater. She had a feeling that the man was from their tribe, as she could see half of his totem mark that was on his left shoulder; the rest was matted with blood. But as long as someone paid close attention to the mark, they would realise that it was indeed someone from the tribe.
The others also followed her line of sight and noticed the mark that was visible. At first, no one was able to tell who this man was until they noticed a small scar on his waist.
"Hey—isn’t he Jiang’s son?" One of the mers spoke in a soft voice as he looked at the rest of the crowd. He kept his voice soft, as he was worried that Uncle Jiang would hear him and lose his mind, and he didn’t want to be the bearer of the bad news, as he was afraid that the mer would be driven mad by it. After all, Jiang Shuang was the pride of his father and mother, as the man was on a Fang lord stage of the beast warrior stage.
If he had worked a bit harder, then he would have levelled up to beast aura king. He was one of the strongest beast warriors of their tribe and yet—sigh.
"My son....my son...."
The cries of Uncle Jiang were still echoing in the tribe, even though the body had been buried—the mer and his mate were yet to recover from the pain of losing their child. Ruan Chanchan sighed, listening to their cries. She had no idea what to make of the situation. Knowing that someone from the tribe was gone, everyone was rather upset. Especially Ruan Chanchan, who was asked to save Jiang Shuang by Uncle Jiang, who asked her to save his son, even though anyone with eyes could see that the man was beyond saving.
Even if Ruan Chanchan had used Xiao Xi, she could not have saved him.
That mer was beyond saving; this was something that Ruan Chanchan knew, and yet she still couldn’t help but feel regretful.
’Don’t you go ahead and blame yourself,’ said Xiao Xi firmly. ’You did nothing wrong. That man’s body was torn into bits. How could you have even saved him? It was simply impossible.’
"I know." Ruan Chanchan, of course, knew that she couldn’t save the life of the man who was already dead. She was not a god.
No one in the tribe blamed her except the Jiangs, who think that she did not want to save their son and refused them deliberately. Ruan Chanchan knew that she couldn’t make everyone happy, so she left the matter alone. If they believed that she deliberately killed their son, then let them be. She knew that they needed someone to blame for what happened to Jiang Shuang—so she let them be. If blaming her made them feel better, then she wouldn’t stop them.
However, life had to move on. After they finished holding the commemorative ceremony, they transferred Jiang Shuang’s body to the mountain where the beast goddess resided. After the death of every beastman, mer or woman, they were all buried in the hill, as they wished for them to be buried in the lap of the beast goddess. After Jiang Shuang was buried, this matter was considered over. Even though there were many hunters who were scared to leave the tribe, they knew that if they didn’t hunt, then they and the entire tribe would starve to death.
Thus, they had no choice but to go and hunt down the beasts, even if they were scared of getting attacked.
"Don’t go alone... stay with me... walk in a thick crowd. I have no shame in accepting that I am scared," said Su Mo as he walked along with Xie Daiyu and Ruan Zeqiu. "I am not ashamed, and you shouldn’t be either. Stay close...don’t let anyone hunt us down."
When Ruan Chanchan stepped out of her cave, this was the first thing that she heard. She was speechless, but at the same time, this was how everything had been going on in the tribe since the last time. No one dared to leave the tribe alone. Even when they were going to pull, they would drag someone with them, and no scouts were allowed to hunt or look for herbs alone; two totem warriors were supposed to follow them. Which was why—
She turned to look at Yuan Ni, who was smiling at her serenely. "Why are you here?"
