Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill-Chapter 94: Dream Stealer and Dream Weaver
Li Wei looked at Tanya, wondering why she was on such high alert.
’Didn’t the Lost Soul run away?’
Suddenly, a tremendous whistling sound echoed from the sky.
WHOOSH!
The Dream Fog in the sky shuddered, surging like waves.
The Lost Soul plummeted from the sky like a meteor.
At that moment, Li Wei understood what Tanya had been on guard against.
BOOM!
The Lost Soul, wielding its Great Sword, smashed into the ground. The terrifying force of the impact transformed into a violent shockwave that radiated outward.
In an instant, Li Wei was thrown more than ten meters away.
CRACK!
Three layers of his Invisible Armor shattered.
He had sustained such astonishing damage just from being caught in the aftershock.
It was hard to imagine the terrifying damage a direct hit would have inflicted.
STOMP, STOMP, STOMP!
Li Wei stumbled backward, taking seven or eight steps before he managed to stop.
He looked up and saw Tanya enveloped in a layer of green light.
She had dodged the epicenter of the Lost Soul’s attack, and the green light surrounding her body withstood the resulting shockwave.
After launching such a terrifying attack, the Lost Soul’s assault slowed.
It swung its Great Sword, hacking at Tanya.
The distance was too short. Tanya desperately dodged, unable to find any opening to counterattack.
Li Wei couldn’t see the fight between Tanya and the Lost Soul.
However, judging by the churning Dream Fog ahead, he could guess that the fight was extremely intense.
Li Wei walked in the direction of the fight.
’She only noticed me after I saw her. That means Tanya’s range of vision is about the same as mine.’
’The Lost Soul’s range of vision must be far greater than Tanya’s, or it wouldn’t have been able to hunt her down relentlessly.’
’I have to kill the Lost Soul. Otherwise, I won’t be able to get away, and my only option will be to leave the Dream World.’
’Tanya was being hunted, but her first instinct wasn’t to leave the Dream World. Is there some reason why?’
’Is it impossible to leave the Dream World during combat? Or can the process be interrupted?’
Numerous thoughts flashed through Li Wei’s mind as he took just a few steps.
A Fireball materialized in his palm.
As he continuously poured Mana into it, the Fireball’s color deepened.
It went from red to orange, then to a deep-orange, releasing an incredibly brilliant, piercing light.
But even that brilliant light couldn’t penetrate the Dream Fog.
Tanya couldn’t see it, but she felt a nameless dread wash over her, an intuition that disaster was imminent.
FWOOSH!
The scorching Fireball shot forth.
It pierced the Dream Fog, flying toward the most intense point of the conflict.
Li Wei had fired it blind.
He didn’t need to see his target; he just needed it to be within the Fireball’s blast radius.
KABOOM!
The Fireball exploded. Surging flames spread rapidly, engulfing an area of more than ten meters in an instant.
The Lost Soul’s figure was swallowed by the flames.
In an instant, the force of the explosion tore the Lost Soul’s body to shreds.
Seeing the Lost Soul get annihilated, Tanya quickly used her ace in the hole.
In a flash of green light, Tanya reappeared ten meters away.
The explosive flames stopped just short of her.
"Phew! Thank goodness."
Tanya let out a sigh of relief.
But when a figure appeared before her, her heart, which had just settled, leaped back into her throat.
She looked at Li Wei nervously.
Having witnessed the power that had one-shotted the Lost Soul, she subconsciously assumed Li Wei had to be at least a Tier Three Mage.
In the Dream World, Spiritual Power was the most critical form of Power.
And Mages were the foremost wielders of Spiritual Power among all the Professions.
The Spiritual Power of a Tier Three Mage far surpassed that of other Professionals of the same tier.
In the Dream World, a Mage’s strength was barely diminished at all.
Even among Tier Three Professionals, a Mage was far more powerful than she was.
Li Wei was completely shrouded beneath his Invisibility Cloak.
His Spiritual Power blocked others’ perception, so Tanya couldn’t make out his true appearance beneath the cloak.
Li Wei asked bluntly, "What are Lost Souls?"
Tanya was surprised. She hadn’t expected such a powerful Mage to be a newcomer.
Having witnessed Li Wei’s incredible Power, she was keen on getting on his good side.
Tanya explained, "Lost Souls are Sleepwalkers who have become lost in the Dream World, as well as souls who have accidentally entered it."
"Corroded by the Dream Fog, Lost Souls gradually lose their sense of self. Once their consciousness becomes fragmented, their bodies begin to decay and disappear, until they become monsters that know only to attack Sleepwalkers."
After hearing this, Li Wei pondered for a moment before asking, "Do you know why Sleepwalkers get lost?"
Tanya hesitated for a moment. "I’m not entirely sure," she said. "I’ve heard that if Sleepwalkers experience too many dreams, they can easily confuse their own consciousness with the memories of others. This makes them unable to return to their anchor point, trapping them in the Dream World and leaving them lost on the River of Dreams."
Li Wei grew pensive.
He had experienced something similar.
Acquiring someone else’s memories wasn’t as simple as watching a movie.
A Memory Fragment forcibly shoved a memory that wasn’t your own into your mind.
At first, it was easy to tell whether a memory was your own.
But as the memories began to blur, it became difficult to distinguish which were yours.
This problem could be mitigated by the Cultivation of Spiritual Power.
The stronger one’s Spiritual Power, the more memories one could bear without losing their sense of self.
Ever since his Basic Meditation Method reached the Perfection realm, Li Wei hadn’t experienced that feeling again.
His memory capacity was enormous.
Devouring Memory Fragments wasn’t an ability exclusive to Li Wei.
All Sleepwalkers could do it.
But Li Wei would pick and choose which Memory Fragments to absorb, discarding any that weren’t suitable.
Besides, he had a proficiency panel to aid his Cultivation, so he wasn’t completely reliant on absorbing Memory Fragments to speed up his progress.
Lately, he had rarely bothered absorbing Cultivation experience from Memory Fragments.
He spent most of his time grinding proficiency in the Dream World instead.
Others didn’t have his advantages. Absorbing Memory Fragments to gain Cultivation experience was their only shortcut.
Once someone experienced the rush of a rapid power-up, it was hard to go back to the slow grind of normal Cultivation.
But excessively absorbing Memory Fragments would lead to losing oneself.
And once you start, you can never stop!
Li Wei asked, "Is there a solution?"
Tanya replied, "If you become a Dream Stealer or a Dream Weaver, you can escape the risk of losing yourself."
"Dream Stealer? Dream Weaver?" Li Wei looked at her, confused.
Tanya explained, "Sleepwalker is one of the Extraordinary Professions. Dream Stealer and Dream Weaver are its advanced classes."
"A Dream Stealer can steal another person’s dream, replacing the original owner to experience it as the protagonist."
"Compared to absorbing Memory Fragments directly, Dream Stealers explore dreams by playing the part of another person. This greatly reduces the impact of foreign memories on their own consciousness."
"A Dream Weaver can weave another person’s dream, thereby causing the dreamer to reveal whatever the weaver is looking for."
"It’s much harder to become a Dream Weaver than a Dream Stealer. Dream Weavers require immense Spiritual Power and insight to weave dreams that are indistinguishable from reality."
Hearing this, Li Wei looked at her and asked, "Then do you know how to advance?"
Tanya shook her head. "I don’t. Everything I know, I found out from the Wandering God Association."
"The Wandering God Association?"
’It seems the mysteries are only piling up.’
Li Wei felt that the Dream World had suddenly become a much livelier place.
Before meeting Tanya, he had always been on his own in the Dream World.
He had assumed the number of Sleepwalkers was small, but now it seemed that wasn’t the case at all.
