Chapter 692: Compensation

'Hey! Hey! Let's talk this through at least!' Adam hurriedly transmitted through Mind Whisper.

'There's no way we can let him off so easily. Do you even the know what I had to go through to deal with that damned cultist, Olin Barrett?'

Daneli looked at him with a confident smile, 'Rest assured, you bastard. You, of all people, will most certainly like my suggestion.'

Adam's eyes lit up with intrigue. He then nodded, gesturing for his friend to go ahead.

"I will do what I must to compensate for my… absence," said Brigham.

"Excellent!" Daneli smiled, his eyes shining with brilliance.

He then pointed to Adam and began, "As you know, my friend here, has suffered the most out of all of us. He even had to go toe-to-toe with the enemy Rank 3 Magus. What's even more unfortunate is that his whole house was reduced to rubble as a result of the battle."

Daneli paused for a moment before speaking sincerely, "So, here's my proposal - you will help Adam with rebuilding his house. To be more clear, you will be financing the entire operation. According to my estimate, that should come to around forty—"

"Wait a minute!" Adam raised his hand.

He lowered his head, trying his best to prevent the devious smirk from forming on his lips. After a few moments, he got to his feet as he kept the wine gourd away.

Then, he glanced at the Flynn Patriarch with a deadpan expression and began, "My house, that I spent so much time, money, and… love to build is now no more. You will help me, won't you, Lord Flynn?"

Brigham Flynn's lips couldn't help but twitch. He then silently nodded.

"Good man," Adam spoke sincerely. "Anyways, my house reconstruction would cost around fifty thousand Acadian gold."

Daneli couldn't help but roll his eyes. That's a little more than I would have suggested, but sure, whatever you say.

However, the youth's following words caused him to be dumbstruck.

"I think I also heard my neighbors complain that they don't wish to live around someone like me who's always attracting troubles. So, why don't you help them relocate elsewhere, eh, Lord Flynn? You're a Councilor, surely you can pull some strings?"

Brigham's eyes narrowed. He wasn't liking where this conversation was heading.

Adam continued shamelessly, "Once you've relocated them, those properties will become vacant. Hmm, what to do? What to do? That's right, you can gift me some more coins to buy all those properties, yeah?

"Those five properties around me, hmm, based on current market price, they should cost a total of two hundred thousand Acadian gold. Add to that, the cost for rebuilding my manor, why don't you gift me 250,000 gold pieces, eh?"

Forget Brigham Flynn, everyone in the room was dumbfounded.

However, Adam was far from done.

"Now, for the rest of my Brothers and Sister," Adam spoke with a righteous heart. "All of them had to risk their lives and protect this fine city. So, I suppose giving Daneli, Elrick, Kael, and Liriel a hundred thousand Acadian gold should suffice."

The people from the Brotherhood had their mouths agape. They couldn't believe what they were hearing.

"Oh, I almost forgot about the Acolytes." Adam glanced at the Rank 1 Magi and smiled like a benevolent deity of wealth and abundance.

"They had to pretend to be Magi from the Flynn Family and do most of the grueling work, you know. Needless to say, it's thanks to them that the Flynn Family's prestige has increased within the city.

"I won't ask much. Just give them a hundred thousand gold pieces and they'll distribute it among themselves," Adam concluded.

Brigham Flynn was visibly frustrated, his eyes spewing anger. "Magus Constantine, is this a joke?"

Adam's eyes narrowed and he coldly asked, "Do I look like I'm laughing?"

Suddenly, a gray light flashed and Valerian appeared on Adam's lap. He looked at the youth with innocent and beady eyes and softly said, "Brother, I helped in your fight too… What about me? I should also get something, no?"

"That's right!" Adam remarked. "Another fifty thousand gold pieces for young Valerian here!"

"Myu! Myu! Myu! Myu!" Valerian got on his hind legs and started clapping.

"You are crossing the line here!" Brigham Flynn rose to his feet.

"Need I remind you that you were the one to betray us?" Adam asked indifferently. "Need I also remind you that I was the one who concocted that antidote for you, and thus, saved your life all those years ago?"

Suddenly, his eyebrows furrowed and he began to stroke his chin, "Hmm, come to think of it, I never really did charge you for curing you, did I? I wonder, how much your life is worth…"

Brigham gritted his teeth in absolute frustration. He feared that if he gave the youth a moment more to speak, he would increase the price yet again.

Thus, with immense unwillingness he finally agreed. "800,000… We have a deal." With that said, he stomped out of the library.

"Oh, and Lord Flynn," Adam suddenly called out. "I expect you to pay the full amount within the next two days. Also, please make sure that those pesky neighbours around my property are moved by the end of the week, okay? Thank you very much."

Brigham Flynn almost tripped on his way out. He cast one final glance at Adam, his eyes blazing with indignation. Then, he exited the room, loudly slamming the door behind him.

"Adam, you…" Liriel stared at him with a flabbergasted expression.

Kael and Elrick were too shocked to even speak, let alone the Acolytes of the Brotherhood. Even if they were to split a hundred thousand gold pieces among all of them, each of them would still receive a significant portion!

Daneli looked at Adam, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. "You… madman! Aren't you worried that this would affect our alliance?"

Adam sneered, "I've gone easy on him. If it wasn't for his reason being valid, I would have killed him right here, right now. Besides, this is the least he should do for backstabbing us. Hmph, that old snake!"

"But what if he takes this negatively and does something…drastic?" Elrick suddenly spoke up.

"Rest assured, he won't," Adam confidently said. "I have him tightly in my grasp. Besides, he should know not to mess with the Twilight Brotherhood."

However, inwardly he thought to himself, If that old bastard really decides to make reckless moves, I will not hesitate to end him.

He has displayed enough hostility and sly intentions towards me to warrant his death.

Not for a moment was Adam under the assumption that Brigham would let him live in peace, considering that he knew the man's most closely guarded secret.

If it really does come to that, he thought.

Then you can only blame your foolishness, Brigham Flynn.
