Gourmet: Midnight Vending-Chapter 278 - 271: Wanting Boss Chen to Stand Up and Pedal on Me_3
He grabbed three skewers of grilled meat directly from the bewildered Ma Juntao and devoured them in one bite.
"Tsk, meat is still the best."
"This grilling method not only retains the original flavor of the lamb but makes the meat crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Unfortunately, my skewers are almost up to standard, and I probably won’t make any more after tonight."
After eating three skewers, Chen Mo jumped off the treadmill with a swish, patted Ma Juntao on the shoulder, "Thanks, bro, I’m full. I need to get back to grilling."
As Chen Mo walked towards the food cart, the crowd automatically parted to make way, looking at him as if he were some kind of monster.
Cao Tianrui had initially wanted to use Chen Mo as a promo to boost the atmosphere, but seeing that Chen Mo didn’t even give him a chance to speak left him feeling a bit frustrated.
So you were just hungry and came here to mooch some free barbecue from me?
The key thing is that this barbecue, I bought from Chen Mo with my own money!
Seeing Chen Mo return to the food cart, some of the people who had just finished the challenge immediately crowded around, "Boss, give me another ten skewers of meat. I just ran 500 meters and didn’t get my fill!"
"I’ll have an eggplant. I just love eggplant~"
"Give me fifty oysters! Boss Xiaochen, let me ask you this: if I eat fifty oysters every meal, when will I become as mighty as you?"
Chen Mo just smiled silently.
Become as mighty as me? 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
That’s impossible!
Being full gives you the energy to work. Chen Mo grabbed another two hundred meat skewers, laid them flat on the grill, then immediately moved on to oysters. After dealing with both, he started slicing eggplants, busy but happy.
The challenge over at the gym continued, but the crowd began to split in two.
On one side were customers waiting for a free challenge, and on the other were those who had tried once or twice and decided that they could think about fitness later — the barbecue was too good to miss tonight!
The time had crept into the wee hours of 2 a.m.
Chen Mo glanced at his task progress. The lamb skewers, sold like hotcakes for three days, with over 8,000 sold. Oysters, being faster to make than lamb skewers, had also sold nearly 10,000.
In contrast, the eggplant had slow progress; most people only ate one, so only a little over a hundred eggplants were sold.
"Looks like I won’t complete the task today," Chen Mo sighed. All the prepped skewers in the cabinet were gone, and there were still many people in line — what a pity.
"Alright everyone, let’s wrap it up. It’s time to close for today."
"What do you mean, boss? I just reached the front of the line, and you’re closing up?"
Chen Mo looked at the man in front with a hint of apology, "Sorry, we’re completely out of ingredients today. Even if I stay open, there’s nothing left for you to eat."
"I don’t care,"
The man crossed his arms with a proud look, "I’ve been waiting for two hours. If you don’t give me my skewers, you’re not leaving!"
Well, I’ve heard of forcing people to buy, but forcing people to sell is a first.
"If you aren’t letting me leave, then there’s nothing I can do. We’re out of food, so I guess we’ll just stand here awkwardly together."
Seeing Chen Mo wasn’t budging, the man stepped back and said, "I don’t care, unless you promise to save some barbecue for me tomorrow."
"How can I promise that? Just come earlier tomorrow."
"If you don’t promise, I won’t let you go."
Chen Mo bit his lips, feeling like he met his match today. But his Bridgehead Brother Jiaozi had never feared anyone, "If you insist, fine. I’ll have some new dishes tomorrow. You can be the first to try them when they’re done, okay?"
"Alright!" The man grinned widely, "I’ll definitely be the first! I’ll bring friends too. Your business will be booming, don’t worry!"
"And what if you don’t eat it?"
"I said I’ll bring friends, so I’ll definitely eat. If I don’t eat, I’m a fool!" The man declared boldly, adding for good measure, "If you don’t save any for me, you’re the fool!"
Chen Mo raised an eyebrow, "Alright then, see you tomorrow."
It’s just saving a dish, who’s scared of who!
Chen Mo quickly tidied up the area. Some customers weren’t very civilized, leaving skewers all over the place.
After cleaning up, he left Construction Road and returned to his usual spot, going through his bedtime routine as dawn approached.
"Whatever, let’s just sleep first."
Closing his eyes, Chen Mo couldn’t help but find it amusing at the thought of that guy.
There’s no surprise when the skewers run out soon. Chen Mo naturally wouldn’t pick slow-selling ingredients like eggplant.
Thus, there were two brand new dishes!
Meanwhile.
The man watched Chen Mo leave Construction Road, and with a satisfied smile, he leisurely headed home.
To be honest, the man’s life has been hard.
His name is Hu Jian Country, and back in the ’70s, he was a driver for the team. But as times changed, his steady job was no longer secure.
To make ends meet, he’s done everything from pedicab to taxi to truck driving. Now, nearing sixty, he finally found a job as a bus driver through a friend’s recommendation.
The pay is decent, and the company provides insurance. Just a few more years, and he’ll be able to claim his pension. Without this job, he would need to pay a substantial lump sum to complete his employment insurance. Last time he checked, it was over a hundred thousand.
That’s a lot of money!
Just as he filled out the job application, he overheard in the office that there was competition for the position from someone in their forties.
Old Hu doesn’t overthink things. He figured his forty years of driving experience gave him an advantage.
Yet his friend repeatedly reminded him not to take things for granted and suggested he should invite the company leaders for a meal, have a chat, and showcase his strengths. After all, being much younger gave the other candidate some advantage.
Unfortunately, Old Hu hadn’t had a steady job for years and wasn’t well-off, so he thought of checking out Construction Road Night Market for affordable yet appealing food to treat the company leaders.
Moreover, people in Chengdu love late-night snacks, chatting and eating at leisure.
As he was heading to the night market, he was drawn to this barbecue stall by the roadside. Seeing a long line of people, he thought it must be delicious!
Glancing at the price list.
Old Hu, being a lifelong resident of Chengdu, had never seen such cheap barbecue!
Thus unfolded the scene with Chen Mo earlier.
Having made the "fool’s agreement" with Chen Mo, Old Hu hummed a tune, leisurely waving a fan as he made his way home.
Along the way, he called his friend to invite him to come the next day!
