Chapter 89: Poolside [1]

A few moments ago, while the silver-skinned ape attacked from the front, a ripple of air shimmered inside the back of the vehicle where the crate had been.

A red-haired woman with a star-shaped blindfold covering her eyes appeared.

A small smirk appeared on her face, and without a word, she placed her hand on the crate.

Right at that moment, a teleportation circle lit up underneath it with blinding crimson runes.

FWOOOSH!

In a flash of light, both the crate and the mysterious woman vanished.

Naturally, that woman was Lilith Valentine.

Presently, inside one of the underground bunkers in the base of the Crimson Star Guild, she watched the crate with a victorious smile on her face.

Behind her were two elite members of the Crimson Star Guild. freewebnøvel_com

’It was such a pity that Ghostface couldn’t make it, but at least his sacrifice was worth it.’

A few days ago, Lilith had heard from an insider that the Adventurer Guild planned to escort a high-level mechanic into the wilderness.

The Crimson Star Guild had been in dire need of mechanics to enhance their weapons.

And since the wilderness was no man’s land with no rules, she had decided to snatch this mechanic for herself.

With the presence of the mechanic, she believed her guild—which was considered the second-to-least powerful among the major 5—could have a shot at winning the upcoming event.

"Quickly, open it and bring him out," she commanded, and instantly, the two men moved to unlock the armoured crate.

She watched the process with tensed shoulders.

Soon, the last lock was undone, and the crate opened with a soft hiss.

But what greeted them was... nothing.

An empty crate.

Lilith blinked, and her expression did a full 360.

"What?!" she exclaimed as she approached the box, and sure enough, her eyes hadn’t been deceiving her.

"Dang! We got fooled," one of the members muttered under his breath.

"The bastards even made me go through the trouble to take it." Lilith clenched her fists, feeling intense, burning anger in her heart.

She felt both embarrassed and furious at the same time. She had greatly underestimated Scarlet of the Adventurer Guild.

’She’s just as smart and sneaky as that old father of hers.’

Finally, Lilith exhaled slowly, her expression returning to its usual calm.

However, that look... was even scarier.

The two elite members inside suddenly felt the atmosphere heat up and took a careful step back.

With a small smile on her face, Lilith Valentine began walking toward the exit.

"Scarlet... you’ll regret pulling this stunt on me." Her lips curled into a half-smile, one devoid of joy. ’I’ll make sure of this during the event.’

...

Meanwhile, in Stellar City...

Scarlet stood by the window, gazing at the city—particularly toward the wilderness.

Soon, Lilly, her best friend and assistant, stepped inside.

"Scarlet, they’ve safely reached Halden Settlement," Lilly reported. "And just like you predicted, the Crimson Star attacked... Lilith fell for the bait."

Scarlet’s expression remained emotionless despite the news.

"Any casualties?" she asked afterward.

"Yes, all the men sent after the crate are dead," Lilly replied in a dark voice. "That petty Lilith won’t take this L kindly."

Scarlet nodded. "She’ll probably try to get rid of as many of us as possible during the event."

"Should we be worried?" Lilly asked, a frown forming on her face.

The Crimson Star Guild was infamous, boasting hundreds of members. If the Adventurer Guild went against them, there was no doubt they’d lose.

"It was inevitable," Scarlet said in a cold voice. "If they come for us, then we’ll simply be ready."

Lilly’s brows furrowed.

She wanted to say, even with preparation, facing them head-on would be difficult. The Crimson Star Guild had at least two Hero Ranks, including Lilith, who was a monster in disguise.

In Halden Settlement, the trio had been taken to a large, luxurious guest mansion right behind a tall metal structure said to be the residence area of Victor.

From the name alone, everyone had already realized that the blabbermouth driver was the owner of this settlement.

They were shocked, yes, but not that shocked. After all, mechanics were very wealthy individuals.

Many guilds and kingdoms often commissioned them to build weapons and war devices.

To be honest, Gabriel was quite envious of those with the mechanic class. If your goal in the Realm of Ascendency was wealth and abundant resources, then the best class for you was definitely mechanic.

Unfortunately, one could not select their class in this world.

At the moment, the trio was inside a large crystal-clear blue pool. The girls stayed at one end while Gabriel stayed at the other, respecting their privacy.

He was in short boxers, and his torso—looking like it belonged to a Greek god—glistened under the warm morning sun.

Unlike his malnourished self from a few weeks ago, after constantly leveling up and eating good food, his frame was gradually returning to how it had been in the past.

It was their second day here, and Victor had treated them nicely—throwing a lavish dinner and giving them well-needed rest after their encounter in the wilderness.

Unaware of the eyes staring at him, Gabriel submerged himself in the water while checking his progress thus far.

He had acquired 38 EP after the recent nights of slaughter, bringing his total reserve to 200. His experience points had risen as well, pushing him very close to Level 32.

Although he felt disappointed for not being able to use his Talent on Ghostface and the others, he was still satisfied with his progress.

In just a couple of weeks since returning to the game, he had already reached Level 31 and accumulated a vast trove of treasures and skills.

Even in his past life, it had taken Gabriel months of grinding to reach this level.

This... was a nice start.

And his confidence in changing his fate only grew stronger.

Just then, a light splash echoed from the other side of the pool.

Gabriel raised a brow.

He turned slightly and nearly choked at what he saw.
