The village at night was dark and quiet, with everyone asleep, save for the guards watching over the gate and patrolling the walls. Still, Zayne proceeded with caution, sneaking out of the window, and moving forward slowly, slipping from one shadow to the next. He paused for a moment at the edge, waiting till the passing guards walked far away enough, before jumping over the wall.

The village's security might have been fairly good, but it was focused solely on guarding against the monsters. Sneaking out wasn't difficult, especially not for Zayne.

Following the river, he reached the shrine in no time. Zozek was already there, as expected, kneeling in front of the altar and praying fervently. Unlike when Zayne had arrived, the altar was now filled with offerings: fruit, vegetables, bread, mead, and even pieces of smoked meat... Not all of them were brought by Zozek, but he made a decent contribution, Zayne had to admit.

At the sound of the footsteps by the door, Zozek lifted his head, looking back. "Sir Prophet?"

"Glad to see you here. Have you been praying well?" Zayne smiled. "Please, carry on. Don't mind me."

Although he came here to kill the man, the night was still young. There was no need to rush, when Zozek could still generate a few points for him.

"Um... Am I doin' it well?"

Zayne waved his hand, dismissing the concern. "Yes, yes, just bow your head and pray. Oh, a piece of advice. Rather than praying for anything specific, like protection or forgiveness, simply thanking and praising god Zayne is the best," he advised.

Not all prayers were made equal, after all. While they were all close to worthless, the praising ones at least earned Zayne a little bit more.

"Uh, thank ya!" Zozek nodded at Zayne, before bowing down his head toward the altar. He listened well, as reflected by his prayers that reached Zayne.

With some time on his hands, Zayne looked around the shrine. He was trying to find a decent spot to sit at first, but in the end, he just plopped down near the entrance, resting his back against the wall. All the floorboards were rotten and damaged, so everywhere was more or less the same anyway. He closed his eyes, and started going through the freshly accumulated prayers.

It was only four or so hours later, that he finally opened up his eyes. "We should head back now," he said.

"Huh? Ya wanna go? I wanna pray de whole night..." Zozek barely glanced back at Zayne, before returning to his prayers.

But Zayne shook his head, walking over to the man. "No. That's enough for tonight. You should leave now."

"Why?"

"It's more effective to pray more often, than for so many hours at a time. You should get some rest now, and return tomorrow."

"Eh? Is it like dat?" Zozek lifted his head, his brows furrowed in confusion.

Of course not. It didn't make a difference whether someone prayed for one hour every day, or seven hours once a week. In the end, the points they generated for Zayne would be the same.

But it didn't matter. Right now, Zayne wanted to drag the man out, to get rid of him and get back to the village before people started waking up. Of course, he could do that by force - he was more than strong enough to easily overpower the man - but getting into a fight could result in Zozek getting injured. There were plenty of damaged boards he could get scratched on. And that wasn't a part of Zayne's plan.

So, he said, "Of course it is. Trust me, I'm the prophet."

Zozek seemed to hesitate for a moment, but eventually nodded his head, and got up. He walked out of the shrine first, leading the way...

He didn't even realize what was happening, when he was suddenly hit at the back of the neck. There was a crack, and he fell on the ground, unconscious... Not dead yet, but most likely paralyzed below the neck.

Not that he would ever get a chance to find out, because his limp body was soon lifted up, brought over to the river, and thrown into the water with a splash. Zayne's clothes got a bit wet in the process, but it wasn't a problem. It was just water, they would soon get dry.

Still, he took off his shoes and rolled up his pants, just so that it wouldn't get any worse. He was going to get changed, of course, and it was unlikely that the villagers would investigate him... But you never know.

He stepped on Zozek's torso, holding his body underwater. It took around four to six minutes for a person to drown, but Zayne waited a bit longer, just to be sure. Only when he confirmed that Zozek was completely dead, with no chance of being healed, even by spending points, did he let go of the man's body. Then, as a finishing touch, he placed it carefully among the rocks, so that it wouldn't get washed away any further. It would be a shame if it were to go missing, after all the work he put into killing the man cleanly...

Although there was still some time left before the sunrise, the sky slowly started getting brighter. Zayne really should be coming back soon...

But there was one thing that still bothered him. While a few men had heard the words Zozek had said, insulting the god in front of the gate as they were under attack, was this really an offense worth his death? For Zayne, yes, of course...

The villagers, however, might not feel the same. Even if the news about Zozek's deed were to spread, they might think the god was being unnecessarily harsh...

And that didn't quite align with the image Zayne had been building thus far.

He stood in the spot, looking at the lifeless body swayed lightly by the river and hitting the rocks, all quiet and monotonous...

When all of a sudden, he lifted his head, his eyes brightening, as an idea hit his head. His lips stretched in a wide smile.

Yes, that should work.

With a plan in mind, he rushed to get to work, not wasting time on any further delays.
