God of Technology: Creating the Internet in Another World-Chapter 497: Something Big’s Probably Going Down, Right?
"I just want to know what else that guy revealed? I don't believe it's only this much."
Master Wrathwind was silent for quite a while before speaking.
"He said if this goes smoothly, regular people's mortality rate will drop significantly in the future, affecting almost all intelligent races. If we can become the core of this plan, for us..."
No need to continue—Master Wrathwind understood.
Viscount Roster's goal this time wasn't small. He'd probably directly focus on most people.
Might cover pretty much all free citizens.
In other words, the space left for them was either stick to old ways and get gradually eroded, or integrate and compete on merit.
Either way, Viscount Roster and the Church of Technology would give them a chance, pulling almost everyone before them. Whoever had the skills would be worshiped by countless people.
As for whether they could convert that into faith, that was their business.
The Church of Technology seemed to have never had much... desire for faith?
"Really is a big gamble." Master Wrathwind couldn't help sighing.
Though this gamble was a bit different from what he imagined, it really was like the invitation said—a gamble.
Win the bet, the church would be elevated.
Lose the bet, the church would lose its original territory.
Even Master Wrathwind started feeling a bit excited.
"Pretty interesting. So, do you guys have confidence?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that? You're the world's greatest druid." The elven Second Elder looked helplessly at this guy before him.
"Just pretend I don't exist. I'm just here to watch the show."
Master Wrathwind said with a chuckle, "You know me—I'm not interested in that stuff anymore."
"This matter has huge impact. I believe even the God of Nature will be watching. You sure you don't want to participate?"
The elven Second Elder seemed to think of something. Before Master Wrathwind could speak, he added, "You're already here anyway."
The destructive power of that phrase was immense.
When someone had already invested enough time, energy, money and other costs for something, even if they encountered an unsatisfactory situation, they'd still make certain choices because of sunk costs.
Especially hearing this phrase, all their thoughts would bubble up at once, then they'd naturally make their choice.
Similar scenes were happening in many places throughout Roster territory.
In the grand theater.
Several outsiders were gathered together watching a magic film.
The film ended.
One of them couldn't help exclaiming, "Really is amazing. Roster territory really does have surprises everywhere, so many things never imagined before."
"Compared to this magical film, I'm more curious that witch doctors like you were actually invited too."
"What do you mean witch doctors? We just excel at using things from nature to heal. For regular people, we're way more effective than you guys."
"Really? What percentage of people you treat survive? People treated by us definitely won't die on the spot."
The person who said this looked totally confident.
"You said it yourself—won't die on the spot. They'll die once they leave your sight, right? Our treatment methods, as long as they can spread, even a serf can treat themselves. Widely accepted in the lower world."
"But most people will die because of it, right? Might get worse the more you treat them."
When these two were about to fight over this, another person nearby couldn't help snorting:
"You two half-assed people actually got into it. Only holy water is the foundation of all healing in this world."
"You talking about holy water from the Church of Light or your Children of the Ocean? I'm guessing the Church of Light, right? After all, everyone's first thought is definitely the Church of Light."
That young man wouldn't put up with him and immediately shot back.
Right then, in the distance, some local Roster territory residents and some merchants who'd come to do business watched this scene and couldn't help discussing.
"Where'd these guys come from?"
"Why are so many people arguing over little things like this lately?"
"For healing, obviously see whose treatment's better! Listen to whoever's effective. Why so complicated? Always arguing about who's stronger."
"For different situations, use different potions. Isn't that something everyone knows?"
"They're not gonna fight, are they? We should get going. I think their combat power's probably pretty good too."
"What's there to be scared of? Better if they do fight. Then we can watch the law enforcement squad take them down. One second all high and mighty, next second totally backing down."
"The law enforcement squad here is that tough? Aren't all these people invited by your lord?"
Some outsiders heard the locals' discussion and couldn't help exclaiming.
"Anyone who comes to Roster territory needs to follow local laws. Doesn't matter what their purpose is, doesn't matter who invited them. That's how it is."
A Roster territory resident said with full confidence, "Our Lord has always been like this."
While they discussed all this, in the Gray Fort Empire.
The Gray Fort Emperor finally hammered out a trade agreement with Viscount Roster.
The trade agreement was incredibly rich in content, involving hundreds of clauses big and small.
The core was: the Gray Fort Empire would allow foreign capital investment, allow them to build factories and purchase land. But to invest, they'd first need to exchange into local currency.
To exchange local currency into dragon gold coins, they could only do so through the Gray Fort Empire.
For some detailed industries, there were also special requirements, but overall it still met both sides' interests.
Viscount Roster was very satisfied with this partnership.
After both sides signed the document, Viscount Roster finally showed a hint of a smile:
"Well then, here's hoping we have a pleasant partnership going forward!"
"Of course." The Gray Fort Emperor took the initiative to extend his hand and lightly shook Viscount Roster's. "Don't know when you'll start investing? I can't wait."
"If you'd said that a few minutes ago, the benefits you'd get might've shrunk significantly."
Viscount Roster shook his hand and couldn't help teasing.
Actually they both knew that whether this was said or not didn't matter. Their goals had been the same from the start.
Both had also left certain room for concessions.
It's just that both sides wanted to save face and wanted to make things easier going forward, so they discussed some more detailed stuff.
"That would've led to much longer discussions. I heard lots of people gathered in Roster territory. Something big's probably going down, right?" The Gray Fort Emperor was unconcerned.
