God of Technology: Creating the Internet in Another World-Chapter 492: All Roads Lead to the Same Place
"There’s no fundamental difference—all roads lead to the same place."
Viscount Roster said with a chuckle, "Don’t you think what alchemists make is actually pretty similar to Magic Conductors?"
"Nope."
The Dragon of Despair Nidhogg was blunt and decisive, without a shred of hesitation—like hesitating even one second would be irresponsible to his own understanding.
Viscount Roster casually pulled two items from his pocket. "Lucky I’ve got a Magic Conductor and an alchemical magical item right here. Don’t you think they’re pretty alike?"
"Are they? One requires you to input magic power to work, and its main effect is adding properties to your spells. The other has built-in magic power and doesn’t need input..."
The Dragon of Despair Nidhogg paused mid-sentence. "Wait, now that you put it that way, they do seem kinda similar."
"Magic Conductors are basically just magical items upgraded so non-magicians can use them."
Viscount Roster said in a casual tone, "Of course, Magic Conductors developed some unique characteristics along the way."
"For example, even a legendary magician would be wiped out after powering a magic-powered train for dozens of miles. But pair it with some other types of arrays, and the train can run just fine."
"But fundamentally, they started out the same."
"A skilled alchemist just needs simple training to become an excellent Magic Conductor expert."
"That being the case, why wouldn’t we get involved in this kind of event?"
"This is a great opportunity. If we can find some promising talent, the benefits for the Church of Technology would be huge."
Viscount Roster was planning a triple win this time.
By partnering with the Alchemy Guild, he’d use their money to install virtual reality projections in all major cities across the world.
This was hugely important for spreading Magic Conductors going forward—definitely would have a great effect.
Especially when people were interested in the Alchemy Guild’s competition.
Plus, Viscount Roster could use the Alchemy Guild’s resources to collect some rare materials, which meant a lot to the lab.
The partnership between both sides would definitely push forward Magic Conductor technology and Roster Academy’s development.
Of course, most importantly, Viscount Roster could use this chance to check out the state of most alchemists in this world.
This would make the upcoming poaching operation super convenient.
He could even nail down the list right during the competition.
Find those alchemists interested in the Church of Technology and Magic Conductor development who had the skills, and get them to join the Church.
If everything went smoothly, this event would be hugely meaningful for both alchemists and Magic Conductor experts.
Listening to Viscount Roster’s explanation, the Dragon of Despair Nidhogg couldn’t help wondering—after partnering with this guy for so long, had he been scammed too, still helping count the money?
"What’s with that look?"
Viscount Roster seemed to notice. "My partnership with you is totally sincere."
"Besides, whether you’re making money or not—don’t you know?"
"Stop looking at me like that."
The more he said, the more the Dragon of Despair Nidhogg felt he’d definitely been scammed before. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
But where exactly had he been scammed?
The Dragon of Despair Nidhogg couldn’t quite figure it out for the moment.
"Ahem, actually for those alchemists, isn’t this a good thing too?"
Viscount Roster coughed twice, changing the subject. "What do you think life’s like for those alchemists?"
"They all need tons of materials for various experiments. Not every alchemical product they make can be sold."
"The Alchemy Guild can only take on so many commissions. After all, almost every magician has basic alchemy skills. Only really cheap stuff or super high-difficulty work is worth ordering."
"You can imagine most of them live pretty tight lives."
"Low-level ones can only sell their labor. Mid-level ones can’t get good gigs—they’re clearly more capable, but still have to sell their labor like the low-level ones."
"What’s worse, the experiments these mid-level alchemists do cost way more than low-level ones."
"Sure, they’re more efficient, but actually they might be even more broke."
"Unless they can make something only they can make that lots of magicians need, then life gets a bit easier."
"Problem is, how many people can create something like that?"
"Even if they have ideas, didn’t their predecessors already try? That’s another limitation."
"Only high-level alchemists can live one job for three years. Their lives are pretty okay."
"But Magic Conductors? Once developed and confirmed that people actually need them, just hand them to a factory for mass production."
"As the inventor, just sit back and collect the cash. With money, they can naturally move on to the next experiment."
"Whether it’s Magic Conductors or magical items, whatever—it’s their own money anyway."
The Dragon of Despair Nidhogg listened in amazement. That actually seemed to make sense.
Just felt something was still off.
"Wait, if they can’t develop lots of needed magical items, why would they suddenly be able to develop Magic Conductors lots of people need once they join you?"
The Dragon of Despair Nidhogg quickly spotted what felt weird:
"People without creativity are people without creativity anywhere. Even if they switch tracks, they still won’t have creativity."
"No, no, no," Viscount Roster waved his hand. "This is the biggest difference between Magic Conductors and magical items."
"Magical items are basically just those same few types over and over. They all boost magicians anyway, so there’s only so much you can do."
"But Magic Conductors are different—everyone can use them. Simplest example: a Cleanse spell can clean a room. Now there’s a magical item that cleans rooms. Will it sell?"
"What magician would be crazy enough to buy a magical item, input their own magic power, and achieve an effect they can already do with magic?"
"But what if it becomes a Magic Conductor? Even if cleaning the room takes an hour, two hours, or even longer, but doesn’t require the owner’s magic input and they can just wait at home—won’t people buy it?"
"I guarantee it’ll sell like crazy!"
"There are tons of situations like this. That’s where Magic Conductors have the advantage."
