Chapter 46: Purchasing a Grimoire

"You lost?" A good-looking, slightly skinny young man stared at the four in front of him as they handed him a report of what had happened.

The seated young man wore the most dignified clothes to be seen at the Academy, chosen specifically for him and created by the best tailors in the kingdom.

A tight-fitting black frock coat adorned the top, with lace and silver embroidery on the sleeves. Underneath was a white shirt of the finest linen with a winged collar and a Vinotinto tie trimmed in gold.

His specially tailored tight pants matched perfectly with the black-vinyl contrast above, giving him a noble feel. He could distinguish himself among all the students.

But what stood out the most among the students was his cane, which had a golden star on the top tip.

That was the highest distinction he could have: he was one of the Academy’s Star Students, whose level was above 100.

At present, only three students in this academic branch have that distinction.

The rest of the distinctions on his black frock coat went unnoticed in front of the greatness of that star.

That alone inspired respect.

For that reason, the men in front of him lowered their heads. Their shoulders were covered with bandages as they waited for the potions to take effect. It would take a while, since his bones were affected.

"We’re sorry, Young Master." John said. "That man is strong. His level is likely lower than mine, because his vitality wasn’t as high, but his strength... he could penetrate my natural defense very easily with one shot."

"Oh." The man let out a sound of interest. "An Armamentalist will always be dangerous to martial artists, if this one knows how to play his cards, so I don’t blame you."

"Huh? But..."

He waved his left hand to make him keep silent.

"I’m just curious, is his weapon normal, or is it high-level? That might have made a difference?" He asked.

John was perplexed by his question. His friends were too.

’Shit, we didn’t notice something that important.’

John lowered his head and knelt on the floor.

"I’m sorry...it was my fault, Young Master. I ignored his gun because I didn’t think a new one could give me a fight."

The Young Master stared at him for a moment. A few seconds later, he let out a long sigh.

"When subordinates are incompetent, I can’t blame them because they reflect their master’s incompetence." He said as he stood up. He brought his cane toward John’s head and tapped it.

"Get up and take your men with you. Recover well; don’t blame yourself for that. It was my fault for not knowing how to tell you what to do."

John took a deep breath, grateful that his master could be as understanding as he was.

"Thank you, Young Master." John thanked him sincerely. "About him..."

His Young Master smiled, "Leave it to me. I got word that he’ll be participating in the Tournament, so we’ll meet very soon."

He walked through them and patted John on the shoulder before walking on. "Push yourself. Try to make the Top 15 in two months. I’ll be cheering you on."

After that, he left the room and headed for the classroom.

John took a deep breath, but a small smile bloomed on his lips. "Looks like I’ll have to work hard to rank up."

After returning to his mansion, Louis locked himself in and began studying the magic patterns he had been given.

Having completed one, he thought the other two would be much easier. But he was wrong.

’The attributes are opposite, so it’s complicated. It’s so different that I can’t use my previous knowledge to employ it here.’

But he kept training and trying to create the water bullet rune. He didn’t know what this one would look like in a shot, but he was anxious to find out.

So, the hours passed. Between trial and error, a pile of crumpled white papers was littering the floor in his room.

He had tried more than 35 times in less than 4 hours, but all failed in the early stages.

Previously, under Hardrial and Laura’s teaching, he tried 18 times until number 19 was a success.

’Sigh.’ With a long sigh, he leaned back in his chair and looked out the window at the moon shining brightly above him.

"It’s late."

But he wasn’t hungry.

He looked at his system and checked the store. He had checked it before, thinking he might get a way to learn magic there, but he was wrong.

The System could make his life easier by giving him power and many more things, like training techniques, grimoires, and more, but he had to learn the Magic Path independently.

It was a path he had to walk on his own.

After searching for over 1 hour, Louis sighed.

’Should I buy a Grimoire? Even if the ones that teach Basic Magic aren’t Armamentalist-centric, it should do the trick.’ He thought.

The problem was the price.

’50 Coins the cheapest... That’s 5 billion Jens.’

Knowing the price of things here, he now knew how much 5 billion Jens was. He could get a lot of stuff with those.

The House of Shadows was worried about losing that amount of money, as it could bankrupt them. But he would spend them on one grimoire, a complete one, but only one.

’The Magic Shops in the City do not carry complete grimoires like this one. Although the prices are affordable, it’s useless if they’re poorly explained. They seem to be difficult to access here.’

After considering whether to buy it or not, he suddenly smiled.

"Tsk. The God of Money worrying about money? If anyone heard that, they’d laugh at my name." He sat back down and pressed the buy button without hesitation.

It was 50 coins, but if he could improve his understanding of these basic magics, maybe he could complete the remaining two magic patterns.

So, it would be an investment of 50 coins to earn 800. If subtracted, he would have earned 750 coins and 80 stat points.

Totally worth it!

After buying it, the grimoire was much heavier than he expected.

It was a book constructed of very high-quality pages. On the cover, it said, "Initiation of Arkanoesis Magic: Lasteryon."

And the first page said:

-To the Greatness of the Land of the Gods of Lasteryon.
