Global Game: I Can Choose Instance Rewards-Chapter 558 - 378: Corruption and Harvest
At the top of the Black Tower, in a spacious and luxurious room, Wang Zhifan temporarily withdrew his attention from the three players and then took a ring from his personal space and put it on the finger of his left hand.
This ring is called the Ring of the Victor, its grade is only rare, but it has a very unique function, allowing the killer to choose three items from the player’s space after killing them. Wang Zhifan wears it every time he decides to target a player.
"Should I really make a move? It feels like this might be a bit dishonorable... Turns out power and greed really can corrupt, even someone as noble as me can’t resist..."
Before taking action, Wang Zhifan was actually somewhat hesitant. He usually didn’t proactively hunt other players, but only retaliated when provoked. This time, however, was different. Those three foreign players had no idea he existed, much less posed a threat. His desire to act against them stemmed only from personal greed and confidence in his own strength.
But many times, degeneration arises from a single thought. With a bit of contemplation, Wang Zhifan realized there was no substantial mistake in dealing with those three. The profit was substantial, and the risk was minimal. This instance allowed for player conflict, so he needn’t be troubled, just like how the three of them had decisively ambushed another player before, more proficiently than a chicken farmer slaughtering chickens.
Hence, he quickly resolved to break the rules he had set for himself and vanished from the top floor of the Black Tower.
The scene shifts back to the location of the three foreign players who were still in the dark palace. The monsters had been eliminated. The mage player leaned against a stone pillar, resting with closed eyes, while the tall, strong white female warrior and the ordinary-looking Insect Swarm Summoner chatted casually, discussing whether they should leave the tower first to confirm the previous trapping situation was resolved. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
But before they could take any steps, three figures suddenly appeared in the space on this floor—three tall figures with long knives at their waists and wearing conical hats. Upon appearing, they formed a triangle, encircling the group.
"Enemy attack!"
"William! Watch out!"
The Insect Swarm Summoner and the female warrior almost instantly noticed the enemies’ presence. The warrior immediately brandished two battle axes and dashed swiftly toward the frail mage companion in a poor state, intending to shield him from danger. Meanwhile, an overwhelming swarm of insects surged around the Summoner, encasing him like a dense black fog, assuming a mode that integrated attack and defense.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
The pale-faced, frail mage, seeing the situation, stood up using the stone pillar behind him while retrieving his Magic Staff and other items from his personal space. He adopted a stance that suggested they were not to be trifled with, questioning aloud, given that their opponents this time were likely humans, probably players with all sorts of elusive tricks, and their current state might not ensure victory.
However, the three enemies encircling them ignored his question and, in unison, drew their long knives from their waists, then burst with speed from three directions, charging at them with raised blades!
"Phantom Chains!"
Seeing this, the frail mage William immediately waved his Magic Staff, casting a spell that sent three illusory chains flying like serpents toward the three enemies, intending to bind them all.
During the spellcasting, he appeared somewhat pained, likely due to forcing his unwell body to act, but with enemies before him, he couldn’t just stand and rely on his teammates entirely.
The Insect Swarm Summoner’s response was similar to that of his mage companion. He moved closer to the mage while directing the nearby massive swarm of mosquitoes into three distinct groups, darkly bearing down on each enemy with a terrifying momentum to devour them entirely.
Being a melee profession, the tall white woman was the only one among the three who did not choose to attack the enemy. Her goal was clear: protect her two companions. So she carefully observed the enemies’ movements and planned to move in circles around her two teammates, ready to provide timely support if the enemies advanced.
In the air, the three illusory chains approached the rushing three conical-hatted swordsmen in the blink of an eye. The chains began bending and twisting, adopting the necessary posture to bind their targets. Meanwhile, the strange swarm of thousands of mosquitoes swarmed over, without hesitation, encasing the charging enemies in a massive area.
Facing two types of vast-numbered opponents, the three conical-hatted swordsmen displayed an almost identical response: readying their blades to slash down, aiming to cut through all obstacles with sharp blade light.
"Foolish."
"Foolish."
"Foolish!"
Witnessing this, the three foreign players simultaneously gave such a scornful evaluation in their minds. The female warrior even wondered if she was overestimating the opponents; she might as well dash directly to eliminate one.
This was because, in their understanding, the correct move for the enemies would be to increase their own agility and speed, or use some defensive skill to evade or block the mage’s Phantom Chains and the Summoner’s massive mosquito swarm. Standing still and simply swinging their blades was fruitless.
The Phantom Chains were not physically tangible; physical attacks couldn’t block them. While the mosquitoes were susceptible to physical damage, they flew quickly, in vast numbers, and were widely dispersed. Even if a strike miraculously hit some, it was of little consequence; the terrifying little creatures would still get close, making a large-area attack to control or eliminate them all the sensible strategy.
