Global Game: Developing a Knight Clan-Chapter 96 - 95: Beast Tide Warning, All Means Deployed
This time, the great uprising in the Demon Beast Mountain Range meant the Demon Beast Tide wasn’t just the one force led by the Sub-dragons.
Bordering the Eagle Kingdom to the south, there was another human kingdom in the Western Realm named the Thorn Kingdom.
Like the Eagle Kingdom, the Thorn Kingdom also had two duchies in the Western Realm, and its territory stretched south to the sea.
This time, aside from the one Demon Beast Tide led by two Sub-dragons, another tide was being led by two Tier Nine Magical Beasts that were not Sub-dragons.
This Beast Tide would simultaneously attack the four great duchies of the Human Countries in the Western Realm.
On the Sub-dragons’ side, the Red Dragon parted ways with the Earth Dragon as they neared the Outer Mountain of the Demon Beast Mountain Range.
It headed toward the Outer Mountains of the grassland region. Clearly, this flying Red Dragon would be the one leading the Beast Tide’s attack on the Green Vine Duchy, one of the two great duchies in the Eagle Kingdom’s Western Realm.
The Earth Dragon, meanwhile, was clearly responsible for attacking the Eagle Kingdom’s Silver Lion Duchy.
Having just endured a civil war only to be suddenly met with a racial war against the Demon Beasts, one could only imagine the difficult times ahead for the Eagle Kingdom.
It was unknown how the Thorn Kingdom would fare, but facing this sudden uprising from the Demon Beast Mountain Range, they were sure to have a hard time as well.
Even now, these two great duchies were completely unaware that the Demon Beast Tide was upon them.
Just as a dense tide of beasts began to swarm over the mountain peaks, the Shadow Wind Giant Eagle shot into the sky.
When it saw the terrifying Demon Beast Tide appearing from behind the Outer Mountains, the eagle was completely dumbfounded.
"This is bad!!!"
The Shadow Wind Giant Eagle knew by now that there was something different about Lince’s Rock Steel Giant, so it immediately used the power of its contract to frantically inform the Rock Steel Giant of the impending Demon Beast Tide.
But Lince, having just logged off, knew none of this. Everything was now up to the ’away’ Rock Steel Giant’s duplicate personality to handle on its own.
Upon receiving the Shadow Wind Giant Eagle’s message, the Rock Steel Giant, which had been resting atop the Magic Crystal Ore, abruptly rose to its feet.
Then, through the power of its contracts, the Rock Steel Giant immediately ordered all its Blood Contract Pets to converge on its position.
At the same time, several Low Tier Flying Demon Beasts began to rapidly issue commands throughout the Wilderness Territory.
The entire Wilderness instantly fell into an uproar.
Large numbers of Low Tier Demon Beasts began moving toward the Swamp Territory, converging on the Rock Steel Giant’s location.
However, during this process, only about a hundred of the nearest Demon Beasts were able to lead their broods and arrive first.
The Demon Beasts from farther away had already been summoned by the Middle Tier Magical Beasts from the Outer Mountains of the Demon Beast Mountain Range.
Terrified, these Demon Beasts didn’t dare make a move. Without a second thought, they switched sides.
In just five hours, fewer than ten thousand Demon Beasts had managed to gather in the Swamp Territory.
As for the Entry Tier Demon Beasts, the faster ones simply abandoned their packs and slipped away to the Rock Steel Giant’s side on their own.
Gathering a hundred Entry Tier Demon Beasts this way was already a decent outcome!
Meanwhile, in the Swamp Territory, York received the Rock Steel Giant’s warning, and the color instantly drained from his face.
He quickly arranged for the militia in each region to sound the alarm bells and drums throughout the towns.
In an instant, the entire Swamp Territory was plunged into a state of confusion and fear.
The drums and bells were a warning for a Beast Tide—and not a small one, but the kind that signaled a war between races.
The moment the news broke, large numbers of mercenaries and transients began to flee the Swamp Territory.
York didn’t know if these people would make it out, but he knew fleeing was better than staying put!
All York could do was order all his subjects and slaves into the castle, even utilizing the newly constructed outer fortress of the Death Warrior Training Ground.
But the transient population was simply too large; many people couldn’t possibly leave in time.
Fortunately, several bishops from the Truth Church sprang into action.
They had the three hundred-plus missionaries with Extraordinary Power who had accompanied them use the Lord’s Mansion’s main keep as a base to quickly erect one earthen wall after another using Earth Attribute Magic.
They also sheltered a large number of the transient outsiders and their own followers.
This helped to reduce some of the chaos.
But the Oracle had warned of a large-scale Beast Tide!
An uprising from the depths of the Demon Beast Mountain Range.
Even the two High Tier Bishops present wore expressions of deep concern.
Although Demon Beasts matured more slowly than the Human Race, most were stronger than humans of the same tier.
The Human Race could rely on Magic Items—even Magic Armor and weapons—to fight Demon Beasts, but in the end, the power of a small, new Viscount’s Domain, even with two High Tier Bishops, was absolutely not enough to stop a Beast Tide of this scale.
People were unaware that in the Eastern Realm, under a surprise attack by the entire Elf Race, three duchies had lost most of their territory almost instantly.
The power of a Demon Beast Tide was by no means inferior to that of the Elves; if anything, it was greater.
Of course, the Swamp Territory didn’t need to stop the entire tide by itself.
The Demon Beast Tide wouldn’t just concentrate its attack on a single front against the Human Race.
But facing the possibility of attacks from several High Tier Magical Beasts, or even a siege by tens of thousands of Demon Beasts, everyone was deeply worried.
As for escaping?
Where could they possibly escape to?
Abandon their subjects?
Abandon their territory?
Although York’s father, Baron Eric, had at first wanted to persuade York to abandon the territory.
But on second thought, with a Beast Tide of this scale, the entire Silver Lion Duchy might not be spared. Where could they run?
Besides, the Swamp Territory now had two High Tier Bishops, over ten Middle Tier Clergy, and more than two hundred Low Tier Missionaries.
This was not an insignificant force.
It wasn’t even weaker than the defenses of Great Princess City.
If they stayed and defended, they might have a sliver of a chance. If they didn’t, the resulting losses would be immeasurable.
Therefore, Eric didn’t try to persuade him, and even began helping York manage the sheltering of their people.
At the same time, the Swamp Territory quickly used magical carrier pigeons to send warnings to the Korola Highlands and other territories in the Western Realm.
As for what shape the war would take next, that was beyond the Swamp Territory’s ability to consider.
While sheltering the populace, York and the six bishops, including Oleg, quickly gathered once more.
Standing on the city walls, they gazed out at the wailing and shouting crowds surrounding the territory, their expressions grim.
"There’s no mistake! I just used a Far-sighted Magic Mirror to look from above. The Magic Power in the Demon Beast Mountain Range has become incredibly agitated, and I saw massive numbers of Demon Beasts gathering in a certain location."
"This Beast Tide might have been instigated by the Elf Race! It’s highly probable that the High Elves took the initiative to contact the High Tier Magical Beasts within the Demon Beast Mountain Range."
"It seems the Elf Race has been planning this war in the Eastern Realm for a long time!"
"Additionally, I observed that His Majesty’s vessel seems to have gathered a group of Low Tier Demon Beasts, but I don’t know what the vessel plans to do."
Bishop Mars, one of the two High Tier bishops, was anxiously recounting everything he had just seen.
"His Majesty’s mortal vessel is of the Dragon Species. If it handles the situation properly, it should be fine."
"The Swamp Territory, however, is our most pressing problem! I wonder if the vessel has received an Oracle from His Majesty?"
Oleg chimed in, looking anxiously toward York.
York’s expression was grave.
He might have felt fear at first—intense fear, even—but he had since calmed his mind.
He was living on borrowed time, after all.
Even if this Beast Tide truly destroyed the Swamp Territory, it would simply mean returning everything to His Majesty.
However, York firmly believed that the great and merciful Majesty would never abandon His Holy Son.
Thus, York’s heart was finally at peace.
And so, meeting the many gazes upon him, York spoke with a grave expression.
"I’m not entirely clear on the vessel’s situation at the moment, and there has been no new Oracle, but I firmly believe His Majesty is watching over everything."
"But we cannot simply rely on the favor of His Majesty and the Deities."
"Everyone, the Demon Beast Tide certainly won’t attack only us. According to past records, their attacks are always dispersed."
"I believe that even without borrowing His Majesty’s power, just by relying on the Truth Power of you esteemed Bishops, the Swamp Territory should be able to withstand this!"
As he spoke, York suddenly paused, then his expression relaxed as he added:
"My lord bishops, the honorable vessel has just sent a new message."
Hearing York’s words, the bishops’ expressions immediately turned curious.
"How did the honorable vessel send a message?"
"Has His Majesty passed down a new Oracle?"
The bishops asked one after another, and York immediately replied:
"There is no Oracle, but the honorable vessel has already made arrangements."
"He has summoned over ten thousand Demon Beasts and plans to have them surround the towns of the Swamp Territory. This will block any portion of the Beast Tide that might head our way."
"Furthermore, the honorable vessel instructed us to have the people of the territory keep their movements to a minimum. He will arrange for Flying Demon Beasts to circle high above, and for packs of beasts to roam some of the town streets, all to create a deception."
As soon as York said this, the bishops’ eyes lit up.
"Excellent! An excellent idea!"
"It seems the wisdom of a Dragon Species that has received Divine Favor is truly extraordinary." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Oleg was the first to voice his praise.
"Indeed. Demon Beasts generally have low intelligence. When they think our location has already been overrun by the Beast Tide, they will certainly bypass it and head elsewhere!"
"Even High Tier Magical Beasts, as long as they aren’t paying close attention, should be fooled."
"In that case, we should also take some concealment measures."
As he spoke, Bishop Aemon suddenly flew into the sky.
He then landed on the highest point of the main keep.
Glancing at the totem banner hanging from the keep’s roof, Aemon didn’t hesitate and suddenly pulled a High Tier Artifact from his Magic Backpack.
The Truth Church has a long history, and it is not short on High Tier Artifacts.
The High Tier Artifact that Bishop Aemon produced appeared to be a plain, unremarkable bolt of gray cloth.
The next moment, as he activated the cloth with his Magic Power, the gray fabric seemed to catch the wind and expand.
It grew larger and larger, thinner and thinner.
In a sudden instant, the cloth blotted out more than half the sky above the castle.
From the outside, it looked as if the central part of the castle had simply vanished.
The scene revealed in its place was a field of ruins, like broken walls and ramparts.
Inside, however, the sun still shone brightly.
After doing all this, Bishop Aemon descended to rejoin the group.
"Although my Magic Concealment Canopy can’t cover the entire main keep, it should be enough."
"As long as a High Tier Magical Beast doesn’t fly low directly over the castle, it should be difficult for them to detect the aura of Magic Power within."
"It would be best if we can avoid a direct confrontation with the Beast Tide, but now it all comes down to luck."
Seeing this, York nodded, filled with joy.
"Thank you, Bishop Aemon. We’ve done everything we can. The rest is in the hands of fate!"
"I believe His Majesty’s Divine Favor will surely protect us!"
"Let’s hope so..."
