Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 72: Quietly, She Held
"Akihito-kun, you’re back! And this is..."
Her gaze shifted to Ayase, curious. Then, an understanding smile suddenly formed on her face.
"I didn’t think it would be this early, oh dear."
Hearing that, Akihito suddenly shouted in embarrassment.
"I told you mom, not every girl I bring to my house is my girlfriend!"
’Mom?’
Ayase blinked, shocked. She looked at Akihito, her eyes clearly demanding an explanation.
Feeling her gaze, Akihito sighed before answering honestly.
"I think... I get it. Anyways, this is my mom. Or at least, someone that’s taking the appearance of my mom. I don’t know if she’s real or not, but I can’t be mistaken. This is probably the monster’s way of messing with our minds."
Ayase nodded in understanding, but then her brows furrowed.
"Why are you so calm then?"
"Huh?" Akihito was surprised. He thought about it for a moment, his gaze softening as he looked at his mom. He smiled gently. "I guess... I miss her. So I don’t care if it’s real or fake, it means I get to see her again."
Ayase’s eyes widened, her lips trembling slightly.
"Hey, do you want to meet my parents?"
Akihito suddenly asked. He looked at Ayase with a small smile.
"It’ll be fun. They’re nice people, well, at least the ones in my memories are. If they’re not, you’re there to help me, right?"
Ayase hesitated for a moment, but hearing his last words, she perked her head.
"Okay."
"Good."
Akihito’s smile brightened. Then, he grabbed her hand, dragging her along to the front of his house.
Akihito’s mother looked at the two of them, her smile widening.
"Hi, Mom! This is Ayase-san!"
Akihito said, then added.
"And, please don’t embarrass me in front of her! We’re teammates in a Demon Hunter Squad!"
"Oh dear, your mom wouldn’t do such a thing..."
Akihito’s mother’s expression faltered, as if she were heartbroken by his accusation.
But then, she suddenly furrowed her brows.
"Demon Hunter Squad? What does that mean?"
"Hm?"
Akihito was surprised, not expecting her question. He simply smiled and brushed the question off.
"It’s nothing, just some role-playing game in high school."
"I see."
Akihito’s mother nodded in understanding.
"Come on in, we’re just about to have dinner."
"Sure, can Ayase-san join us?"
Akihito asked.
Akihito’s mother nodded. "Of course."
After saying that, she walked inside the house, waiting for the two of them.
Seeing him act so calm, Ayase was confused.
But she didn’t have time to dwell on it since Akihito immediately dragged her inside.
Bam!
But then, she felt a sudden push, making her expression change.
"Huh?"
Akihito was bewildered, seeing Ayase stuck on the door.
Ayase lowered her gaze. "I can’t seem to enter..."
Akihito frowned, then thought for a moment.
"Wait."
He activated [Dice of Possibilities] and stated a wish in his heart: ’Let Ayase-san enter with me in my house.’
Then, he rolled the dice.
Unexpectedly, the roll had taken almost all of his spiritual energy, causing his face to distort slightly.
But he paid it no heed, watching the dice carefully.
Soon, the dice revealed a result.
It was 6.
Akihito returned to reality, looking at Ayase.
"Come inside. It should work now."
Ayase was bewildered, but seeing Akihito’s insistence, she tried to enter again.
This time, she managed to step inside the house.
Ayase was surprised.
"Okay, let’s go!"
Akihito grabbed her hand again, leading her deeper inside.
Very quickly, they arrived in the living room and saw a moderately sized table in the middle.
"Just in time, son."
Sitting on one of the chairs, Akihito’s father looked at him, nodding slightly.
Akihito’s eyes lit up in surprise. He immediately shouted:
"Heh, Dad!"
"Huh? H-hey, wait..."
Then, he ran to his father, hugging him tightly.
"...!"
Akihito’s father was caught off guard, almost falling from the chair. He raised his hand.
"You cheeky brat!"
But then, his hands slowed down, landing on Akihito’s hair as he patted him gently.
Akihito’s dad clicked his tongue.
"Aren’t you afraid of embarrassing yourself in front of your girlfriend?"
"Haha, Ayase-dan wouldn’t mind!" Akihito chuckled, then he bumped his dad’s waist. "Also, you and Mom should stop it! She’s not my girlfriend, don’t embarrass Ayase-san too much."
Hearing that, the Akihito parents only chuckled, not really believing him.
"Alas..."
Akihito sighed. He looked at Ayase, who was staring at him and his dad with a distant gaze.
"Ayase-san? Do you want a hug too?"
Hearing that, Ayase was startled, her cheeks reddening slightly.
"...!"
Sensing strange gazes land on him, Akihito realized his bad choice of words.
"Not from me!"
He immediately clarified, but Ayase’s cheeks only reddened further.
"Alright, you guys can have your lovey-dovey moment later, for now, let’s eat." Akihito’s mother smiled faintly, shaking his head.
Hearing that, Akihito fell silent, his gaze turning soft.
He just wanted to talk with them, and even that was hurting him so deeply.
He just didn’t show it.
As for dinner?
"Mom, Dad."
Akihito suddenly spoke, looking at his parents across the table.
His parents furrowed their brows, looking at him curiously.
Ayase sensed that it was time.
Akihito sighed quietly, his eyes distant as he spoke.
"I’m naturally happy that I get to eat with you two again, but Ayase and I have to go now. I’m sorry."
He bowed his head deeply.
"My biggest regret is that... I couldn’t say I love you one last time before you guys disappeared from me and my sister’s life."
"So, mom, dad... listen closely."
"I love you."
Hearing that, Akihito’s mother and father fell silent. They exchanged a glance, a small smile forming on their expressions.
"We know that already." Akihito’s mother said, tilting her head. "We also love you and your sister. It’s just unfortunate that we can’t see you two grow up."
Akihito’s body shook.
"It’s okay, wife. Look at your son closely." Akihito’s father interjected. "He’s already turned into a man. We can’t do anything anymore, but know this... you’ve already made us proud, son."
"Take care of your sister. And we’re sorry... for leaving too early."
Hearing that, Akihito forcefully raised his head, looking at his parents for one last time.
"Thank you..."
Then, he twisted his head forcefully, looking at Ayase.
He nodded slightly, pushing the chair back as he stood up.
Wordlessly, the two of them stepped outside the house.
Akihito’s mother and father looked at the two of them, smiling dearly.
But Akihito didn’t dare to turn around.
Ayase glanced at the corner of her eye, her heart crumbling.
Then, they walked into a distance.
Until the house had vanished in the mist, never to appear again.
At that moment, tears slid down from Akihito’s cheeks.
Ayase held his arms quietly, letting him cry his heart out.
"Hiick... mom... dad..."
