Chapter 48: Abroad

At an airport in Lunaria, a dark-haired young man stood silently, gazing at the stars hanging in the sky.

He wore a long trench coat, shielding himself from the evening cold.

At that moment, a middle-aged man entered the picture, having a pair of lifeless eyes and a dead expression.

Zold didn’t bother to turn around, nodding slightly.

"You’re here, Namita."

"... Why are we going to Nihono?"

Namita asked, looking around the airport.

The airport had no other people besides themselves.

The reappearance of the Nine Apostles had forced the government to set another lockdown, preventing ordinary civilians from going outside.

The fact that Zold could still bring him along for a trip finally made him understand the weight of his status.

"I’ll explain later."

Zold didn’t elaborate.

Namita shrugged, taking out two cigarettes. He passed the other one to Zold.

Zold glanced at him from the corner of his eye.

"Take it."

Namita said calmly.

"You look like you need one."

Zold stared at him indifferently, ignoring his hand.

Namita shrugged, not taking it personally.

"What are we waiting for?" He asked, slightly bored.

Zold answered calmly.

"Someone fast."

Namita raised his brows. Before he could reply, Zold suddenly asked casually:

"This trip is going to be dangerous. Have you prepared yourself for death?"

Hearing that, Namita’s hands holding the cigarette paused mid-air. He shook his head, sighing:

"If I said no, would you let me go?"

Zold thought for a moment and nodded:

"Yeah."

Namita was surprised, but then he narrowed his eyes. "You’re already firing me when I haven’t even shown anything yet?"

Zold paused, then shrugged. "Fine. But don’t tell me I didn’t warn you."

Namita glanced at him, speaking slowly:

"It’s just death."

"Aren’t we all just pretending to be alive anyway?"

Hearing that, Zold paused.

After a brief pause, a complicated expression appeared on his face.

He nodded slowly.

"That’s right, it’s just death."

A slow silence emerged between the two of them.

After a while, Namita suddenly recalled something important.

"Oh, right. I killed the mayor before coming here."

"Good."

Zold praised him, nodding slightly.

"Killing the mayor? Now I’m worried, what if you guys kill the mayors in Nihono too?"

A voice suddenly resounded beside them.

Namita’s eyes widened, turning his head slightly. But seeing that Zold was still calm, he kept his composure.

A tall, blonde-haired man stood on their left, looking at them with a troubled expression.

"Feels like I’m inviting devils to my home."

"Nagito."

Zold glanced at him and spoke his name.

"A devil to deter all demons, to be precise."

Nagito raised his brows. "But I’m already that devil..."

"Let’s go."

Zold ignored his words, glancing at him indifferently.

"Fineee..."

Nagito shrugged, leading the two of them inside the plane.

After going inside, they each took a seat close to one another.

Nagito glanced at Namita, slightly surprised.

"So he’s the one you said you’ll bring alone?"

Zold didn’t want to elaborate.

"Yes."

Nagito furrowed his brows for a moment, then he relaxed.

"Alright, I don’t mind. The more the better. Oh yeah... do you know who the traitor is?"

By the end of his words, his tone suddenly turned cold.

"No." Zold shook his head, a faint smile appearing on his face. "They’re daring to say the least."

"Daring is an understatement," Nagito chuckled, his fists clenching. "Ah... I really want to kill them so badly. I wouldn’t mind if they did it next month, but doing it this early really puts me in a tough position."

Zold tilted his head, asking."Maybe you have a grudge with someone in the team?"

"No way." Nagito waved his hands repeatedly. "I’m innocent. I’m a freecruiser, you know? I don’t have any enemies at all."

"Isn’t that because they’re already dead?"

Zold raised his brows.

Nagit chuckled. "Touché"

Although Namita couldn’t fully understand their exchange, he grasped enough.

His years of experience as a detective taught him how to read between lines.

Nagito, despite his unassuming presence, was equally as deadly as Zold.

Moreover, they were talking about things that he probably shouldn’t even know.

Thus, the best choice in this scenario was to fall asleep.

Namita closed his eyes, leaning against the airplane seat.

On the other side, Nagito glanced at him and chuckled.

"Your helper is pretty smart. I still didn’t expect you, out of all people, to take someone in."

’If only you knew about the twins...’

Zold didn’t answer, feeling mixed emotions. Though even if accepting the twins was because of Maria’s influence, he didn’t regret it one bit.

"I was ready to assign a few people to you..."

Nagito said, seemingly thinking over it.

"I even added a sexy secretary. I’m telling you, she’s the bomb!"

Zold glanced at him, shaking his head.

"Don’t get carried away."

He sighed, resting his head against the airplane chair.

Back in Zold’s villa, Leo fidgeted on the bed uncomfortably, a deep frown present on his sleeping face.

"Lia... no..."

As each second passed, his frown turned deeper and deeper until a trace of fear appeared on his face,

"Mom... Dad...!"

Suddenly, Leo cried out in terror, his body straightening up!

His eyes widened in fear, looking over the room in anxiousness.

But seeing that he was in his teacher’s villa, he sighed in relief.

"A nightmare..."

Leo murmured, feeling sweat pour down his back.

He glanced at the clock on his bedside table, seeing that it was already midnight,

’Water..."

Then, a sudden feeling of thirst came to him.

Leo took a deep breath, regaining his composure as he got out of bed.

He went outside his room to get a drink, making sure he didn’t make any noise.

However, as he walked by, he suddenly noticed that his teacher’s door was slightly open.

That was odd.

Leo frowned.

His teacher had never left it open before, even when he was sleeping.

At that moment, a bad feeling emerged in his heart.

Leo slowly walked to his teacher’s room, uneasy.

"Teacher...?"

When he called out, nobody answered.

Feeling his uneasiness reach its peak, he pushed the door open, and inside, the room was empty.

His teacher was gone.

His teacher wasn’t always in the house, but he always told them when he was going away.

This time, he didn’t.

Leo finally realized the uneasiness he felt when he saw his Teacher in the morning.

’No...’

Unable to believe it, he took a step back, stumbling on the floor.

Thud.
