Chapter 75: [75]The Spire’s Countermeasure, A Rift in the Sanctuary

The penthouse suite of the Sovereign National Bank was a safe zone suspended in the middle of a dying world.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, the wasteland of Sovereign City was locked in a constant state of ruin. Ash fell like snow, coating the broken skyscrapers.

But inside the ten-block radius of the White City, the world was perfectly fine. The hexagonal dome projected by the Chronos Hourglass released a quiet energy that kept the horrors of the Galactic Arena at bay. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂

Inside the luxurious living room, the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed.

Hana Ryker sat cross-legged on a velvet sofa. Her dark brown hair fell in loose waves over her shoulders and the Sun-Silk Aegis draped over her back released a faint warmth.

She was happily tapping away at a holographic datapad, managing the network of the five thousand refugees sheltering in the lower levels of the bank.

She looked incredibly healthy! The pale skin and fatigue that had bound her to a cane for years were completely gone, cured by the Mythic-tier elixir her brother had forged.

Standing near the glass windows, Sia Vance maintained her watch. The silver-haired Vanguard wore black tactical gear, and her massive obsidian kite shield rested against her leg.

She scanned the golden horizon for any signs of movement.

Aria paced near the kitchen island, her hands wrapped around a warm mug of tea. The Priestess wore her Crimson-Lotus Vestments, the white and gold fabric rustling softly with every step.

A sweet scent of cherry blossoms radiated from her. She was worried, her emerald eyes repeatedly darting toward the ceiling, as if she could see the Chronos Spire miles away.

"He has been in there for over an hour," Aria murmured with anxiety. "He promised he wouldn’t do anything recklessly self-destructive. But he has zero base stats, Sia. The Spire is designed to wipe out entire raid teams!"

"The Commander is highly optimized," Sia replied smoothly, not taking her eyes off the window. "He doesn’t rely on normal stats. He will return intact."

"You give him way too much credit," Hana chimed in with a bright giggle. "My brother is a genius, yes. But he’s also a complete idiot when he gets focused. If he sees a faster route that requires him to jump off a cliff, he’ll jump first and calculate the landing on the way down."

Aria let out a long sigh and rubbed her temples. "That is exactly what terrifies me."

Before Hana could tease Aria about her obvious crush, the silence of the penthouse was broken!

A massive chime echoed not just through the room, but through the minds of every living being on the planet!

[Global Notification]

↳ A Challenger has breached the Apex Threshold of Floor 50.

↳ Time Recorded: 59 Minutes, 12 Seconds.

↳ Previous Record: 4 Years, 2 Months. (Record Holder: The First Emperor)

↳ The System acknowledges the Celestial Architect.

The golden text hovered in the air, glowing with intense light.

Hana dropped her datapad! It clattered against the marble floor. She stared at the notification, her mouth hanging wide open.

A second later, she burst into joyous laughter and threw her hands in the air. "Fifty floors! In an hour! He actually did it! That absolute maniac just speedran the apocalypse!"

Sia Vance slowly lowered her hand from the window. A fierce smile broke across her face. She snapped to attention, driving her fist against her chest in a crisp salute directed at the Spire in the distance.

Aria covered her mouth, a wave of relief washing over her. He was alive. He was tearing through the Overlords’ test just as he promised.

But the celebration was short-lived.

The moment the notification faded, the temperature in the penthouse plummeted!

The comforting mana of the White City violently stuttered. The lights flickered, casting erratic shadows across the room.

Sia moved instantly! The proud smile vanished. She unslung her massive obsidian shield and dropped into a low combat stance.

"Perimeter breach!" she barked. "I am detecting a massive spike in spatial pressure. It is rendering inside the room!"

"What!?" Aria gasped, her healing aura flaring to life. She gripped her wooden staff tightly. "That is impossible! The Chronos Hourglass stabilizes the entire area. Nothing can bypass the physical barrier!"

"Unless the attack is coming from the system’s root directory," Hana whispered.

In the center of the living room, directly above the shattered glass coffee table, the air tore open!

It was perfectly geometric, glowing with a harsh white light. The Alien AI running the Chronos Spire had recognized Vahn Ryker’s impossible speed. It registered his Architect permissions as a critical virus!

Since it couldn’t easily delete a user inside the Tower, it targeted the data tied to his registry. It targeted his faction!

Three figures stepped out of the white rift, landing heavily on the floor.

They didn’t look like monsters. They were humanoid, standing seven feet tall, but their bodies were constructed entirely of smooth chrome. They had no faces and no weapons. Their hands simply tapered off into glowing energy blades.

[Threat Detected]

↳ Data-Wipe Sentinels

↳ Level: 60 (System Override Entities)

"Level 60," Aria breathed, her knuckles turning white around her staff. "They are administrative executioners. They bypass standard physical defense!"

"Stand behind me!" Sia roared. She didn’t retreat a single inch. She slammed her heavy boots into the floor, angling the obsidian kite shield to cover the path between the Sentinels and the rest of the room.

"I am the Vanguard. No enemy steps past this line. Aria, prep your highest output buffs. We are going to break them."

The three chrome Sentinels slowly turned their featureless heads. A mechanical hum vibrated from their bodies as their internal targeting arrays scanned the room.

Sia braced for the impact, ready to absorb the kinetic force. Aria’s staff glowed with blinding pink-gold light.

But the Sentinels completely ignored the heavily armored knight and the glowing Priestess!

Their smooth visors locked onto the far side of the room. A single red reticle materialized on the surface of their chrome heads, aiming directly past the Vanguard’s shield.

The red targeting lasers painted a dot perfectly in the center of Hana Ryker’s chest!

[Target Acquired]

↳ Corrupted File: System Key.

↳ Initiating Deletion.
