Chapter 81: The New Haven

Jonas, who came with Terrence and Aurora and was also known for his Iron Stomach Talent, was on the eastern wall, hammering planks into place with other members of the shelter, when the notification appeared.

He froze at the sight of the new event.

"Field Tyrants... roaming outside the shelters?"

"That’s dangerous."

"Thankfully, we have some time to prepare." 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"But if those things targeted this place, we’ll get in trouble. I think we must prepare to escape just in case."

The others around him were also informed, and they couldn’t help but feel nervous... It wouldn’t be surprising if that kind of field boss would suddenly turn to their shelter after all.

At this point, Jonas also had no idea how their shelter leader would tackle this situation. Still, he knew that he must contribute as much as he could.

If Kai decided to raid one of these Field Tyrants, he needed to be part of it and get the experience points he needed. He didn’t need to be in a Leaderboard immediately, but he must accumulate experience points as much as he could.

"Let’s just do our part... We’ll need stronger walls. If those things come near, we can’t let them breach us so easily." Jonas said.

But deep down, he knew walls wouldn’t be enough. Boss-class machines weren’t meant to be stopped by barriers. They were meant to be hunted, or they’d get their shelter destroyed.

Across the continent, survivors debated furiously.

Some of them vowed to form hunting parties, dreaming of the rare loot and Gene Enhancements that could be theirs.

Others swore to avoid the Tyrants entirely, fearing that they had more advanced weapons that they could never deal with. After all, these Field Tyrants must definitely be equipped with stronger cannons, lasers, or something even worse that could destroy their shelter.

However, the mention of Gene Traders spread hope and desperation alike. It meant braving the fields, where the Tyrants could be waiting for them, but it should be worth the risk.

"What if by only destroying the Tyrant will those Gene Traders appear? "

"Gene Traders... Don’t expect too much. The least medals they’ll take might even be ten or so."

"What? That’s too much. I only have two medals ever since."

"Look... Someone’s already Level 15... Stop wasting time and find a way to level up."

They were all unsure how to approach this event that would come in ten days.

However, Kai already had a plan!

After some time, the residents of New Haven‑45 gathered in the central hall, forty survivors in total.

It was a bit tense due to the recent update, but they were expecting some good news from Kai.

Russel’s team had already returned with the armored vehicles and Mila’s group from the old shelter, and now Kai stood before them, ready to speak.

Of course, Russel had already reported the encounter with desperate survivors along the way and Kai agreed with his decision not to let them in.

"We can’t risk unknowns right now. This place must be secure before we expand."

Kai’s gaze swept across the crowd. He could feel their eyes on him, waiting, uncertain, but hopeful. He straightened his back and spoke with authority.

"From today onward, this place will be officially known as New Haven-45. There will be new divisions, you can no longer use the previous arrangement. To survive, we need a proper structure. I will establish divisions, each with clear responsibilities, so everyone will have a role."

Kai gestured toward Ralph.

"The Assault Division will be split into two teams. Team A will be led by Ralph. His Sharpshooter Talent makes him ideal for ranged combat."

Ralph nodded firmly.

"Team B will be led by Claire," Kai continued, turning to the woman who had proven herself in several skirmishes. "She will be supported by Terrence. Together, they will form our close‑combat unit."

The crowd murmured approval. Claire gave a confident smile, while Terrence nodded and agreed to this decision.

Kai then continued. "Your first mission is not to attack. Instead, you will organize the frozen Sentinels we’ve captured and place them outside the shelter. They may be statues now, but to outsiders they will look like mechanical soldiers standing guard. Let the world believe we are defended by machines. This can be useful for us too."

Soon, Kai’s eyes found Irene, a calm woman with steady hands.

"Irene will lead the Medic Team. She has already proven her skill in treating wounds. She will be supported by anyone with basic knowledge of first aid. If you don’t know, you will learn."

Irene bowed her head slightly...

Kai turned toward the group working in the kitchen.

"Next is the Provision Division. We need food. My Gift Packs cannot sustain us forever. From today, the Kitchen Crew will be formalized. You will manage rations, prepare meals, and begin experimenting with farming. Aurora will assist with gathering plants and seeds. We must grow vegetables, fruits, anything that can sustain us long‑term. As for the leader, Aurora should act as the leader for now."

Although their Survivor Title would allow them to survive for a long period of time even without eating, it wasn’t the case for everyone.

Then, Kai looked at Victor, who was still smudged with grease from dismantling Sentinels.

"Victor will lead the Engineering Division. His team will handle repairs, construction, and dismantling of machines for parts. This division will also oversee the armored vehicles that we have. If we can salvage Tyrant components in the future, Victor will be the one to turn them into weapons."

Victor grinned, wiping his hands on a rag. "Leave it to me."

Finally, Kai turned to Jonas, who had been hammering planks into the eastern wall, before she turned to Wallace.

"Wallace will lead the Security Division with Jonas to assist you... I also want this team to be involved with reinforcing walls, building barricades, and ensuring the shelter remains secure. But you will coordinate with the assault teams when threats approach."

"Understood!" Victor replied.

The hall was filled with agreement, but before anyone could relax, they all heard a bell ring!

Kai immediately perked up as this was the signal he taught Atom to warn them about the approach of human Survivors!
