Kai could only accept the new Passive Skill he had gained. This Bio‑Adaptive Constitution would definitely be important for his future.

After all, it meant that when the time came, when implants or augmentations became necessary, his body would accept them. He wouldn’t suffer rejection, infection, or death. There was no doubt that it would help him.

"Damn..." Kai muttered. He was still awed by this new Gene Skill.

It wouldn’t help with the Mech Siege right now, but he didn’t mind. Some things were meant for the long game.

After calming down, Kai finally focused on another task. He swiftly used his Talent.

Once again, the options to select one of the ten gift packs appeared before him. Without hesitation, he made a choice.

Since he could only do this one by one, Kai had to spend some time gathering more of them. Of course, he focused on the Weapons Gift Pack since he needed more ammunition. There might be an oversupply of revolvers, but it didn’t matter. Those were still metal and could be recycled.

Furthermore, the hatchets included could serve as secondary weapons or even throwing weapons. Since they were light, each survivor could carry at least four.

Just like that, Kai focused on the Weapons Gift Pack before moving on to other packs.

After half an hour, he checked his Inventory.

"This should be good enough. I can try getting more later... Right, I have these medals," Kai muttered as he saw the medals and recalled their purpose.

According to their description, they could be used to conduct transactions in the Gene Skill Store, with the elusive Secret Merchant, or among the Gene Traders. Unfortunately, he had no idea where to actually find those three. He could only guess that he hadn’t met the requirements to see them yet.

Then, his attention shifted to the reward he had received after being the first Survivor to reach Level 5. He had almost forgotten about it.

He hadn’t worn the set yet since the shelter basically had a uniform. It was the camouflage gear from the Stealth Gift Pack.

Because he had opened so many of those packs to get Smoke Grenades, he had enough to clothe all the residents of the shelter. Needless to say, since everyone was wearing it, he felt out of place if he wore something different.

This time, however, he felt it was necessary.

Kai opened the Survivor Gear Set.

Kai stared at the gear, impressed. It wasn’t flashy, but it was practical, exactly what a survivor needed.

He began equipping them piece by piece.

The helmet fit snugly, and the help also slid down with a faint click after putting the visor down.

The jacket was light yet firm, while its armor felt like it was truly made for him, as it was hugging his frame.

Soon, the gloves also tightened around his hands, giving him a secure grip.

’This really feels good... I can already tell that’s high-quality made.’

The pants and boots completed the lower half, and they were surely designed for endurance and mobility. Finally, the utility belt was strapped around his waist, ready to carry the tools of survival.

When he was done, Kai received the Set Bonus Effect!

Kai exhaled slowly. "Now this... this feels right."

As soon as he said this, he heard hurried footsteps echoing through the corridor.

He knew immediately that there was an emergency, and he felt a little nervous.

Thud...

As expected, a scout burst into the quarters area. He was breathless and pale.

"Leader Kai! Artilleries, massive ones! They are being prepared! Our shelter might get bombarded!"

"What?!" Kai exclaimed as he stood up.

Artillery fire meant devastation... Their walls, their defenses, none of it would hold against something like that!

Shock coursed through him as the grim reality sank in. They had fought Sentinels, from D-Grade to C-Grade... He was expecting that the number of enemy units would just increase... However, this was entirely different!

Against bombardment, there was no survival. He had to do something.

’We’re trapped... unless...’

Kai thought as he swiftly went to check the observation area to see what really was going on.
