Claire took a deep breath as she replayed the spirit’s words in her mind.

Terrence had tried to control her. Twice!

If he was willing to use hypnotism on her in this place, in front of the Gene Trader, then what would stop him from using it back at the shelter? Those with no capability to defend themselves from hypnotism would be in trouble.

Claire clenched her fists as she imagined what kind of problem he’d bring to them...

’If he returns, he’ll twist people to his will. There must be a limit to that ability, but he’ll use his skill for his own benefit. That can’t be allowed.’

Her spirit companion hovered nearby and could tell what she was thinking...

"You see it now, don’t you? He’s dangerous. If you don’t stop him, he’ll spread his influence like poison. Let’s steal everything he has! Let’s increase our wealth, Claire!"

Claire nodded slightly.

For once, she could agree to this Spirit bound to her...

"Yes... but Terrence isn’t easy prey. His Pathfinder Talent makes him slippery. If I don’t subdue him immediately, he’ll vanish, and no one will ever find him again."

She recalled what Terrence had boasted about his Talent...

Claire could only nod after hearing this.

But this was different. This wasn’t about survival alone... it was about protecting the shelter from Terrence’s corruption.

She exhaled slowly, as she considered what to do next...

’I’ll have to plan it carefully. There shouldn’t be any hesitation. If I strike, it must be decisive. Possession first, then subdue him, and drag him to Kai... He’ll decide on what to do with him.’

The spirit chuckled darkly.

"Good. I can tell you’re finally thinking like me. He doesn’t know you’ve seen through him. That ignorance is your weapon."

Claire nodded as she watched the doorway where Terrence had left.

Thanks to her spirit, she knew the truth.

’I have to crush him before Pathfinder can save him.’

That left six people behind. They were Alfie, Terrence, Claire herself, and three more of her Assault Team B subordinates.

Terrence approached her then, and he seemed almost apologetic. He acted as though nothing had happened, as if his earlier attempt to manipulate her was forgotten.

Claire kept her face neutral, feigning ignorance. She let him believe she hadn’t noticed his hidden intentions.

"Search the surroundings," she ordered the three remaining men. "Check for Sentinels, or those riders on the flying crafts. I don’t want surprises."

The men saluted and dispersed, leaving only Alfie, Terrence, and Claire standing near the treehouse.

Claire turned to Alfie...

Then, she made a subtle hand signal... It was one reserved for emergencies.

It meant she was about to subdue an enemy.

’Huh? Enemy? Where?’

Alfie blinked in confusion. He looked around, baffled at the sign...

There was no enemy in sight. He almost believed that he had misread their hand signals...

However, even after thinking about it, he knew that it was the signal for subduing an enemy!

For a moment, he also thought his Gladiator instincts had dulled, that he had failed to sense danger.

But then Claire’s aura shifted.
