Global Awakening: Apocalypse Ender's Chronicle-Chapter 1118: The Trump Card
Thud!
Balanar then threw the corpse away as if they had just spoiled his entertainment...
Everyone observed the Zombie Lord with a hint of nervousness.
Balanar’s skin was mottled green with veins bulging with toxic matter.
Then, there was a crown of bone protruding from his skull... Indeed, the crown wasn’t worn but it was grown on its head...
Furthermore, with every breath of the Zombie Lord, clouds of poison seeped from his mouth, curling into the air.
Alora felt the pressure immediately. Her Aura activated instinctively, resisting the suffocating haze.
Soon, she raised her sword to get everyone’s attention.
"Formation!" she commanded.
The shieldbearers locked their shields, creating a wall against the creeping green gas...
Furthermore, archers nocked arrows tipped with special poison steel.
Although Balanar was toxic itself, it didn’t mean that they couldn’t melt the Zombie Lord’s body from the inside!
They just had to use more special poison steel created by Shinja, the Legendary Recruit who had Poison Veins...
"Come at us!"
At the same time, the swordsmen spread out with their blades glowing faintly with Aura. They were all prepared to fight!
Without any more hesitation, Balanar roared, the sound echoing through the ruins.
His toxic breath thickened, and it started moving across the street like a living fog.
With such a huge conversation, horses would have died instantly here. Alora was glad she had left them behind.
Twang! Twang! Twang!
The first volley of arrows flew and passed through the haze. They struck Balanar’s chest, but the Zombie Lord barely flinched.
His skin was just too thick!
He then continued moving forward as he realized that the Poison Fog was not doing anything against the human Survivors...
"Hold!" Alora shouted.
Shieldbearers braced as Balanar slammed into them!
Bang!
His claws raked across steel, and as expected, poison splattered! It even started sizzling against the enchanted steel!
Even if the shields held, cracks had already formed.
"What kind of toxicity is this?!"
"This feels more like a stronger Spitter’s Acid!"
"Careful! Do not touch them!"
At this point, Alora charged ahead...
Her Epic Set made her more confident about her skills and ability to resist the Toxic Zombie Lord’s poison.
Furthermore, her Aura was amplified several times thanks to the Aura Ring she had purchased from Layla, the Telekinesis Expert!
Soon, she struck with her blade, and it was fast enough to slice across Balanar’s arm!
"Haa!"
Toxic matter sprayed out of its body, burning the ground where it landed.
Balanar then leaned forward to try to bite Alora’s head off!
However, it was too slow! The archers had already fired again!
This time, they were aiming for his eyes.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Balanar was struck and had to back off for a brief moment...
Seeing this opportunity, the swordsmen charged in and began slashing at his legs...
"Rrraaaghh!"
The Zombie Lord attacked in anger, and before his claws could catch them, the swordsmen had already retreated!
This was all a practiced move since they had been fighting against larger Zombies for several months already!
"You humans! I’ll tear you all apart!" The Zombie Lord shouted with its croaky voice...
"Urghh..."
"That sound..."
Even though they knew that the Zombie Lords could somehow speak, they still weren’t used to it... They’re certainly a terrifying existence.
"Focus on our plan!" Alora shouted, reminding everyone about the plans they created in order to deal with Zombie Lords.
After all, there was no way they could win against Zombie Lords by just relying on their Aura, Swords, and Arrows.
If they were that easy to kill, all of them would’ve been hunted to extinction by now...
Soon, shieldbearers raised their shields as they prepared to charge forward and force the Zombie Lord to kneel or even fall.
Well, they have to take him down at all costs, so that it would be easier for their group to engage with their plan.
However, Balanar roared again, unleashing a wave of gas that forced the brigade to retreat a few steps.
Soon, their masks hissed as filters strained.
Realizing that the gas masks were already reaching their limit, Alora gave a signal to use the antidote vials!
Without hesitation, the group uncorked their prepared vials and swallowed the antidote immediately!
Alora’s heart pounded as she was starting to get pressured...
"We can do this! We still have that thing! Just push forward and injure the Zombie Lord as much as we can!"
"Yeeeeaahhhh!"
Her brigade answered with a unified cry!
Soon, their Aura suddenly grew stronger. Together, they charged forward, blades and arrows cutting through the haze.
There were already casualties, but no one was stopping!
The abandoned city became their battlefield...
And at its center, Alora Virellan stood tall...
She was calculating whether it was time to use their trump card against this Zombie Lord.
After all, it would only work if the Lord was already weakened...
Using it immediately wouldn’t give any satisfactory result at all.
***
’We can do this...’ Alora reminded herself as her grip tightened on her sword...
As the battle continued, she calculated their next move. The brigade had already suffered six casualties, their bodies lying motionless in the haze.
Every second they delayed, more lives would be lost.
Soon, her eyes turned to the satchel carried by one of her shieldbearers. Inside were the arm‑sized injectors, nine in total, each one was a dart forged by Alchemist Anna.
Indeed, they were the Anti-Zombie Injectors that were used by the Eclipse Domain before!
Alora smiled faintly despite the chaos.
She remembered seeing Shane visit Anna’s lab many times, always alone...
Everyone already guessed that Anna was Shane’s lover, and Alora believed it.
In any case, these injectors were not free. They were rare, costly, and dangerous to use. She had paid a lot of Zombie Cores to exchange nine of them for this mission...
Each dart carried a payload of anti‑virus compounds designed to destabilize necrotic cells. Once injected, the solution spread rapidly, breaking down the unnatural regeneration that made Zombie Kings and Lords so difficult to kill.
"Prepare the injectors!" Alora shouted.
The shieldbearers nodded, pulling the massive darts from their satchels.
The injectors were soon ready...
They just need an opportunity to launch them!
Rooaaar!
Thankfully, it didn’t take long before they found their chance!
Balanar roared again, and it was followed by his toxic breath!
He charged forward, forcing the brigade to scatter.
Whoosh~ Whoosh~
Arrows and throwing weapons were sent, but the Zombie Lord’s defense blocked them all!
His tough skin absorbed most of the damage, and his regeneration was already knitting wounds closed.
This time, Alora made her move and released most of her Aura!
"Haaa"!
She struck at his chest, forcing him to step back!
"Now!" she cried.
Three injectors were launched at once, propelled by Aura‑charged crossbows.
The darts then passed through the toxic haze!
Crash!
One was intercepted! Balanar’s claw smashed it mid‑flight, shattering the injector into fragments. But the other two of them struck successfully!
Thud! Thud!
The darts buried themselves deep into his flesh. For a moment, nothing happened. Then Balanar screamed.
"Rrraaaghhh!"
The compounds spread rapidly, destabilizing his cells. His regeneration weakened, and wounds that had been closing began to tear open again.
His movements were slowed!
"You cursed humans!" Balanar roared! "What have you done to me?!"
Alora only looked at the Zombie Lord and didn’t answer. There was no need to talk to a dying Zombie!
Instead, she gave a command!
"Don’t use the other injectors... He’s done! Kill him!"
Just like that, the brigade attacked once more... This time, the intensity had doubled! It was because they could that their attack was working! The injectors worked!
Archers fired nonstop, and arrows started piercing the weakened flesh easily!
Furthermore, the swordsmen could slash at his legs, cutting tendons, and it no longer healed instantly.
"Kill!"
Shieldbearers also used their Shield Back, forcing him back step by step.
Bam!
Balanar was finally taken down!
This would be easier for them to kill the Zombie Lord!
Soon, the poison fog thinned, no longer sustained by his strength. His claws lashed out desperately, but at this point, they lacked the speed and power they once held.
Alora leapt high with her Fiver-Meter Jump Skill!
Then, she brought her sword down in a sweeping arc, slicing across his shoulder!
Sssaakkk---
The wound gushed toxic matter, but instead of sealing, it spread wider, destabilized by Anna’s compounds.
"Let’s end this!" she shouted.
Her subordinates followed!
Soon, Balanar crashed against the wall of the collapsed cathedral. His crown of bone cracked as he slammed into the stone. He roared again, but it was weaker now...
Then, Alora landed, her boots skidding across rubble. She raised her sword, pointing it at the dying Zombie Lord...
"This is for the Virellan Kingdom... and for every survivor you’ve slaughtered."
She charged, and together with her brigade, they unleashed their final assault.
Arrows pierced his eyes, blinding him. Swords slashed his legs, forcing him down... Shieldbearers rammed their shields into his chest, pinning him against the wall.
Alora climbed the rubble, leaping onto his shoulder.
With a cry, she drove her blade into his skull!
[ You have eliminated a Zombie Lord. ]
Alora smiled as soon as the confirmation appeared.
But the relief faded quickly. A sharp pain spread across her chest, and when she looked down, she saw it... a wound, fresh and bleeding, hidden until now by the chaos of battle.
"Oh no..."
