Giant Dragon Lord: Starting from Daily Intelligence-Chapter 144 - 138: Magical Beast Breeding Plan
"Alex, I have a mission for you," Raylo said.
"Take a squad of knights and find a way to capture the Iron Armor Rhino Mother Beast that occasionally comes near Black Stone Castle to visit its young. Tonight, I will have Moonlight personally tame it."
Alex was stunned for a moment, then immediately understood Raylo’s intention.
That Iron Armor Rhino Mother Beast was quite powerful. If they could tame it, it would undoubtedly be a great asset to the territory.
"Yes, my Lord!"
Alex accepted the order crisply.
With those arrangements made, Raylo quickly took stock of the territory’s current military strength.
On the ground, once the Iron Armor Rhino Mother Beast was tamed, along with the two Growth Stage Armored Rhinoceroses and these twenty Heavy Knights infused with Earth Dragon Blood, they would be an unstoppable sledgehammer.
Add to that the newly tamed Mammoth Herd and that Earth Dragon Group...
Raylo was almost certain that in terms of sheer terrestrial impact force, he already held an overwhelming advantage among Lords of the same level.
In the air, there was the Griffin Knight Squad led by his mount, the Storm Griffin King "Baofeng," as well as the gradually forming Pegasus Knight Order. This was enough to ensure air superiority.
However, he couldn’t be blindly optimistic.
The territory’s current military strength still had a clear weakness when it came to ranged attacks and Magic Power.
Although Bow and Arrow Riding Shooting was a mandatory subject in the Knights’ daily training, it was ultimately just an auxiliary skill, not a specialized ranged unit.
On a large-scale battlefield in the future, the lack of effective ranged suppression and killing power would be a huge disadvantage.
However, making up for this weakness was not something that could be done overnight.
Raylo mulled it over for a moment and decided to shelve the problem for the time being.
The immediate priority was to fully utilize the resources at hand and forge this nascent land and air force into a mature power.
’Less than a month...’
Raylo thought to himself.
The upcoming war with the Fiery Sun Kingdom would be the first touchstone to test the strength of Black Stone Castle.
He had to transform these resources into a reliable force on the battlefield within this period.
「Afternoon.」
Just after lunch, Moonlight zipped away and disappeared from the window.
Raylo walked to the window, gazing in the direction the little fellow had vanished.
At that moment, Bolin strode in.
"My Lord."
Bolin bowed.
"A troop of Fishfolk, numbering around two hundred, has been discovered in the valley downstream on the Black Water River. It appears to be a scouting party from a Fishman Tribe."
Raylo’s brow twitched.
’So the Deepwater Fishfolk have finally arrived.’
"Over two hundred in a scouting party?" Raylo mused.
"In that case, this Fishman Tribe must be quite large, probably numbering in the thousands."
The Fishfolk were mediocre in strength among Demons. The strongest individuals were no more than Tier Three, with most lingering at the Unranked level, making them even weaker than an average trained Knight Apprentice.
They managed to occupy a niche in this Wilderness thanks to their astonishing reproductive rate and massive population.
Once they established a foothold in the territory, they would become a persistent nuisance, like a festering sore.
"Yes, my Lord. According to the scouts’ observations, this group of Fishfolk is poorly equipped, but their movements are organized. They don’t look like a common rabble," Bolin added.
Raylo nodded.
"Bolin, immediately assemble the Black Stone Knight Order. Also, notify Instructor Barrett and have him lead the Knight Apprentices from the Knight Training Camp to the Black Water River area."
The apprentices Barrett had been training had undergone high-intensity drills and received ample resources. Many of them were already on the verge of becoming Tier One Knights and needed real combat to hone their skills.
These Fishfolk would serve as the perfect whetstone for them.
"Yes, my Lord!" Bolin replied.
"Remember," Raylo stressed.
"This operation isn’t just about driving them away. I want you to inflict as many casualties on these Fishfolk as possible. You must teach them a painful lesson and crush any notion of settling near the Black Stone Territory. Make them understand that the lands of the Black Stone Territory are not for them to covet."
"I understand!"
A grim glint flashed in Bolin’s eyes. He accepted the order with a heavy nod and quickly turned to leave.
After Bolin left, Raylo pondered for a moment, then had an attendant summon the Minister of Agriculture, Lady Martha.
Before long, Lady Martha walked in.
"My Lord, you sent for me."
Lady Martha bowed slightly.
"Martha, there are a few matters that need your attention."
Raylo’s tone softened a little.
"First is the matter of breeding the Pegasi and Earth Dragons. These two types of Magical Beasts are crucial for the territory’s future. You must select the best keepers and provide the finest fodder and environment. It is imperative that they adapt quickly and begin to reproduce and bear offspring."
Lady Martha listened attentively and nodded.
"Rest assured, my Lord. I have recruited over fifty people from among the populace to specialize in caring for these Magical Beasts, the Pegasi and Earth Dragons. However, the breeding cycle for Magical Beasts is usually quite long. I will do my best to create the best possible conditions."
Raylo nodded and continued.
"Find a suitable location and establish a Gray-headed Goose farm. I will have Bolin catch a batch of Gray-headed Geese for you in a few days."
"Gray-headed Geese?"
Lady Martha was slightly taken aback, but she quickly understood.
She had long heard that the Lord’s pet, the big cat, loved to snack on roasted Gray-headed Geese.
"Yes, my Lord."
"Very well. You may go."
After Lady Martha left, Raylo handled some more daily administrative affairs in the castle study.
The sun outside the window gradually began to set. Estimating the time, he figured Bolin and his men should have already engaged the Fishfolk.
It was just a scouting party from a Fishman Tribe, so Raylo didn’t plan to get involved personally.
But since it was a tribe numbering in the thousands, he still decided to go take a look from the sky above the battlefield, just to be sure nothing went wrong and to observe the Knight Apprentices’ performance.
He walked out of the castle.
He summoned Baofeng, who was resting nearby.
The tawny Storm Griffin King sensed its master’s call. It let out a low cry, spread its massive wings, and bounded over.
Raylo swung himself onto Baofeng’s broad back and gently patted its sleek neck.
"Let’s go, Baofeng. We’re going to check on the Black Water River."
"SCREEE!"
Baofeng let out a high-pitched, piercing cry. With a powerful beat of its wings, it kicked up a gale, carrying Raylo into the sky like an arrow released from a bow, speeding toward the Black Water River.
Below him, Black Stone Castle rapidly shrank from view as the vast land unfolded before his eyes.
A little over twenty minutes later, the winding Black Water River appeared at the edge of Raylo’s vision, like a dark green jade belt.
The vegetation in the river valley was lusher than in the heartland of the Black Stone Territory. But at this moment, the tranquility was shattered.
The sounds of battle cries, clashing weapons, and the unique, shrill screeches of the Fishfolk drifted up from below.
Guiding Baofeng, Raylo circled high in the sky, looking down upon the entire battlefield.
