Getting spoiled in a woman dominating world-Chapter 457: Selena’s situation
A week has already passed-
Sitting on his couch, Brandon was drinking his evening tea while scrolling through his phone. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
He saw the videos in the group chat
[Brandon Kael wins the second-year tournament finals.]
[Will he also aim for third-year tournaments?]
Comments flooded in with speculation, memes, thirst posts, and conspiracy theories about his "unfair" power level.
Brandon huffed a quiet laugh, shook his head, and took another sip of tea.
Seonhwa was sitting beside him, drinking her own tea in her usual maid dress.
At that moment, the door opened, and Callista stepped in. "My Lord, Selena has woken up."
Brandon raised his gaze and gave a nod "Oh... I will be there now."
Callista nodded her head and left the room before closing the door behind her.
---
Inside, the room was softly lit with medical monitors humming, and Selena lay propped up in the adjustable bed.
Her eyes are open and clear for the first time in weeks, with no black residue.
As Brandon entered the room, she lifted her gaze with a small smile "...Thank you."
Shaking his head, he sat on the stool beside her bed. "How are you feeling now?"
She gave a faint nod "I feel great."
"Like I’ve been asleep for a very long time and someone finally opened the windows. Everything’s... clear. My head doesn’t hurt anymore."
Upon hearing this, he smiled "That’s good to hear. Can we have a chat right now? If you’re not too tired."
Selena nodded again "Yeah. I can talk."
Brandon exhaled slowly "Can you tell me what actually happened? And how did you become her Herald?"
Selena closed her eyes for a moment as if gathering the memories "It all started in my dreams," she began quietly.
"A few days before the first-year tournament finals. I kept seeing her. This woman... with green eyes and black wings made of mist. She never gave me a name at first. She just... appeared every night."
Her fingers tightened slightly in the blanket.
"She told me she would give me power, which is enough to win the finals. She said she would help me become someone no one could ignore. And that all I had to do was agree."
Selena opened her eyes "Since it was just a dream... I just agreed. I laughed it off in my head. Thought it was my subconscious wanting to win so badly that it made up a goddess to cheer me on. I didn’t know she was real."
She let out a shaky breath "Haa... since then, I felt weird energy entering me. My ether reserves grew overnight."
"I thought I was just... improving and breaking through naturally. Everyone told me I was a genius. That I was a prodigy."
Her voice cracked on the last word.
"But in the first-year tournament finals... she took control of my body."
Selena’s gaze met Brandon’s "I remember fighting you, but she was the one in control of my body."
"After that, she has been feeding me energy, trying to make me stronger... but recently I didn’t feel her energy anymore."
"I thought it was over, but my energy exploded in the tournament and..."
She looked at him as tears spilled down her eyes "I’m sorry, Brandon. I’m so sorry. I didn’t know. I didn’t understand. I thought it was just... ambition. Just wanted to win. I didn’t know I was letting a goddess manipulate."
With a smile, he gently took her hand, "It’s alright. Now she is gone... and that’s what’s important. You are free."
Selena leaned forward and wrapped her arms around his neck in a clumsy, desperate hug despite the IV line tugging at her wrist.
Brandon hugged her back delicately "You’re okay. We’ve got you."
---
Brandon was sitting beside Rheanne on the wide marble stairs of the Deep Sanctum Hall with his elbows resting on his knees.
"I see..." Rheanne let out a soft sigh beside him.
Brandon glanced at her sideways and leaned back "Is Azyrth troubling you up there in the Divine Realm?"
Rheanne shook her head "No, don’t worry about me. As long as my belief is strong in this world, I won’t be easily defeated."
Brandon hummed under his breath thoughtfully and let his head tip back against the step behind him.
"I’ve been curious..." he said slowly. "How were you when you were just a human? What skill did you have as the first awakener?"
Rheanne blinked in surprise and smiled playfully, "Well... I had pretty powerful skills. But I am not saying what they are."
Eh?
Brandon smiled dryly "Why not?"
She shrugged one shoulder "You will eventually know about them, so don’t worry."
Her tone was light, but there was a quiet certainty beneath it... like she had already seen the moment he would discover them.
Brandon huffed a soft laugh "Being so mysterious about it."
She giggled and a comfortable silence settled between them again.
Then Rheanne sighed wistfully "Haa... thinking about the old days, I think those were the best days of my life."
Brandon turned his head toward her curiously.
She continued "I had someone very precious with me..."
Hm? He leaned forward slightly "Is that person also an awakener?"
She nodded with a soft smile "Yeah..."
With a chuckle he asked, "Is she the second awakener or something?"
Rheanne’s giggle turned into a full laugh "Yeah... you could say that. ’She’ really was powerful."
"We fought side by side for years. Through rifts and through the rise of the first noble houses trying to claim power over the awakened."
" ’She’ was always at the front... laughing even when ’she’ bled. We balanced each other. Perfectly."
Brandon’s brows lifted perfectly "She sounds incredible."
She nodded her head "Yeah.. ’she’ was..."
With a deep breath, she abruptly stood up "Ok, enough talk about the past... I will take my leave now."
Brandon also stood up after her "Mhm, see you later."
As she turned to leave, she stopped midstep and turned to him "Oh also, start exploring towers..."
"The rich experience you gain from towers is different from dungeons and ruptures."
He gave a nod "I have been thinking about it... since I am already S rank, I might as well start exploring towers."
Her gaze quivered, but she quickly masked it with a soft smile "Hmm, be careful."
