Chapter 154: You wretch!

"Haha, stop tickling, idiot!"

Eira’s laughter echoed through the shower as warm water poured down from the rainfall showerhead, cascading over their bare bodies.

"Idiot, I said stop—!"

But Brandon only smiled, his arms wrapping tighter around her waist. "Nope," he said, pressing his face into the crook of her neck. "You’re too cute when you’re ticklish."

His lips brushed her skin before he pulled back just enough to kiss her.

Eira’s flustered annoyance melted instantly as she closed her eyes and leaned into the kiss, her hands resting gently on his shoulders.

The sound of the water drowned everything else out, until the faint ringing of his phone broke through the haze.

Brandon paused.

Eira blinked her eyes open "Is that... your phone?"

"Yeah," Brandon murmured, pulling away reluctantly.

The water streamed down his body as he stepped out of the shower, grabbing a towel and wrapping it around his waist.

He padded out toward the bedroom, where his phone sat vibrating noisily atop the dresser, its screen flashing with an incoming call.

He picked it up and squinted.

"Florence?"

Inside the bathroom, Eira was dumbfounded.

"Huh? Mom?" she exclaimed, hurrying out of the shower with droplets still clinging to her skin.

She grabbed a towel and quickly wrapped it around herself, peeking over Brandon’s shoulder. "Did you just say... Florence?"

Brandon gave her a sheepish smile, drying his hands "Yup. Florence Bleaufort."

He sighed, then tapped to accept the call and turned on the loudspeaker "Florence..."

A smooth, mature voice filled the room instantly "Darling, good morning~"

"Morning," Brandon replied with a smile.

Eira’s lips twitched in irritation. "Mom? Seriously? Why is the first thing you do in the morning calling my boyfriend?"

Florence paused, clearly caught off guard by Eira’s presence "Oh, dear~ You’re there too? Good morning, sweetheart."

Eira narrowed her eyes, crossing her arms tightly across her towel-covered chest. "We’re bathing, mother. Call us later."

Florence grinned upon hearing this "Only bathing or is there any other naughty stuff going on?"

"I hate you," Eira muttered under her breath.

"No you don’t, sweetpea. You’re just flustered because I’m right." Florence giggled again.

"Anyway, I wasn’t calling just to tease. Though the fact that I interrupted your post-coital shower is such a happy accident."

"It wasn’t post-coital!" Eira shouted in embarrassment.

"It was kind of during," Brandon mumbled.

Eira turned around and smacked his shoulder, mortified. "Shut up! Don’t admit it!"

Florence, meanwhile, was having the time of her life "You two are adorable. But I’ll be brief. I just wanted to let you know I’ll be arriving at the Capital tomorrow morning."

Brandon blinked. "Wait- tomorrow?"

Eira blinked her eyes in surprise "You’re what?"

Florence’s tone turned breezy. "I’ve been invited to a banquet hosted by House Caeles which is scheduled for next week."

"A tiresome event, really, but I decided I would come early and spend some time with my darling daughter and her oh-so-precious boyfriend."

Eira snatched the phone and replied "Fine. Come. But if you do any inappropriate thing, I will disown you."

With that, she cancelled the call and placed the phone down.

Meanwhile, Brandon’s gaze condensed ’House Caeles. It was the same house that sent Seonhwa to spy on church and later asked her to kill the Church’s Acolyte.’

’A banquet... hmm.’

*THOOOM*

A deafening thunderclap split the air and the sky itself recoiled as a streak of light tore through the clouds and crashed into the land below.

The entire mansion estate shook violently.

Tremors rippled outward like the shockwave of a quake, cracking marble floors and toppling decorative statues.

The glass windows of the outer halls shattered in unison, raining crystal shards across the courtyard.

Smoke and dust billowed from the impact zone at the center of the courtyard.

At the center of the enormous crater and curled debris, Charlotte was standing as her cloak billowed in the faint breeze.

She lifted her chin and slowly raised her gaze from the crater she had just created beneath her feet.

*SWOOSH.*

Figures darted from the shadows of the surrounding buildings.

Dozens of silhouettes blurred through the corridors and rooftops.

The elite personal guard of the mansion, A-Rank operatives, swarmed toward the impact site.

Five more figures arrived with breathtaking speed, breaking the sound barrier as they dropped down from above.

They are the S-Rank enforcers, the highest-ranking guards in the estate.

But none of them moved.

They couldn’t.

An invisible force pressed down on them like the hand of a god.

The aura that surrounded her itself was suffocating.

A few dropped to one knee instinctively, unable to breathe properly under the crushing weight of her killing intent.

Not a single one dared to raise their weapon. Some could barely remain standing.

A few glanced at one another, unsure if they should retreat or not.

*WOOSH*

Two streaks of light tore across the sky and twin trails of gold and silver ether spiraled downward like meteorites as the skies split once more.

The SS-Rank Twins.

The twin sisters were legendary across the continent, two of the very few female ether users to achieve SS rank.

The elder, Augusta, stepped forward first "Charlotte."

The younger, Lyrzana looked at the A and S rank soldiers and sighed in her heart.

Charlotte took a step forward and the crater beneath her heels crackled with residual ether as she tilted her head toward the twins.

"You’re in my way," she said in her usual indifferent voice.

"Move."

Augusta raised a single hand to halt the guards behind them "All of you... stand down," she ordered.

The A-Ranks and S-Ranks didn’t question, and they dropped their weapons in relief.

Now, there were only three women at the center of the storm.

Augusta let out a soft exhale "We’re not your enemies. But I will not let you destroy this place unless you give me a damn good reason."

Charlotte’s eyes narrowed "You’ll get your reason when I drag her out myself."

There was no need to ask who "her" was.

Everyone knew.

With that, she walked past them towards the mansion.

Lyrzana closed her eyes and sighed softly "We are powerless against her."

Augusta gave a faint nod as she knew if Charlotte moved, the world should yield for her or burn.

Charlotte walked through the cracked marble steps leading to the grand entrance of the Caeles mansion.

With no hesitation, she pushed open the massive twin doors.

Beyond the entryway, the grand foyer stretched wide.

Every servant in the hall froze.

Maids and security agents immediately lowered their gazes or dropped to one knee as Charlotte passed.

None dared to meet her eyes.

At the top of the staircase, flanked by twin statues, a woman stood waiting.

The Matriarch of House Caeles.

Maerina Vaelis Caeles.

She had long black hair, and her crimson eyes glimpsed faintly looking at Charlotte.

Maerina slightly stiffened and looked at the maids and guards "Leave, you all..."

Everyone hurriedly rushed from there and left them alone.

Charlotte walked to the couch and sat on it, before crossing her legs.

Maerina walked downstairs and reached in front of her, sitting on the opposite couch "Miss Charlotte, why all the fuss to come here?"

She laced her fingers gently in her lap, forcing her tone to remain calm. "If only you had informed me beforehand, I would have welcomed you appropriately. No need for theatrics, surely."

Charlotte’s gaze narrowed and she silently looked at Maerina.

Maerina closed her eyes for a moment to steady herself, but it did little to calm her rising heartbeat. She was a woman who had ruled a Great House for three decades.

Yet in front of this younger woman, this untamable creature, she felt fear.

"Forgive me, Miss Charlotte. i won’t try to spy on him again."

The moment she lost contact with the spy, she knew she got caught and this was inevitable.

Maarina looked at Charlotte who was sitting silently and was quite confused ’What happened.’

The green eyes of Charlotte turned blue, and suddenly a smile appeared on Charlotte’s lips.

"You wretch, how dare you..."

Eh? Maerina was dumbfounded by her sudden change in demeanor "Miss Charlotte?"

Charlotte suddenly stood up from the couch and kicked Maerina in the face.

"GUAGH."

Maerina was taken aback and she stumbled back with the couch feeling the pain blooming across her face.

Her body skidded across the marble floor, crashing against the base of a pillar and a sharp metallic tang filled her mouth as blood spilled from her split lip.

Dazed, she tried to push herself up.

But Charlotte was already standing beside her.

She raised her leg and placed her heel on Maerina’s chest as a cold glint passed through Charlotte’s eyes.

Maerina’s eyes trembled in fear as she looked at Charlotte’s eyes.

Her gaze was murderous and oozing with killing intent.

No, it was worse than that. It was possessive.

It was the gaze of a woman whose sacred boundary had been violated.

"My Kael... how dare you sink your filthy little tendrils toward him?"

Charlotte leaned in closer, her blue eyes glowing softly now, swirling with ether like frozen stars.

"He’s mine."
